Time for the oil change; is 5W20 the only alternative or is it just Ford's insistence because of fuel compliance? Is there anything else I should know before doing the oil change? See you soon. The service is due every 12 months or 12500 miles, which ever happens first, To keep the warranty the service has to be done by a garage (ford or independant) using ford parts, and probably to ford schedule (look on ford etis for what's checked). Thanks Mark, I normally do these easy jobs myself so it is a decision on whether to pay a premium for a Ford service or risk not having two more years of warranty. You can go to any garage that promises to mark your book and for it not to void warranty. ex. quik fit offer service to manufacturer specification. Considering the joy I've had with my last service at a dealership I'm almost willing to give a local garage who promises the same thing for a cheaper rate. My warranty is out now though. Finally having "Focus upon Focus with serious engine problems......" just fills me with the fear that I have spent my hard earned cash on a pile of crap. This is where manufacturers get a bad reputation imho. It will go brittle with age/use but on a sevice ford will check it, they will also check for know faults on their system. This won't get done by most independents, you won't have checked it yourself as you wouldn't have known about it. If you don't want to pay for a dealer service that's upto you but if you ever need something doing under warranty don't expect ford to be helpful, they sometimes help out if something goes wrong just after the warranty period has ended if history can be proved with dealer invoices. How long do you plan to keep,the car? No service history or warrnty will effect the value. It's in for a service on Monday the reason being that there may be technical things that they are advised to check and If I do the service myself I have no way of knowing what they are.
