I had the fault even though it had updated itself.

If yours it on the newest  level of software and still faulting then I'd be replacing the module. It's what I've been doing for months and not had any customers come back with the same issue.

Not seen that before, I would try removing the fuse in the first instance, or disconnect the battery for 5 mins. The code is built into the APIM\BCM so it will reset itself fine. To quote the IT

I guess that’ll be the next thing they do if it comes back. It’s been ok since it was doubly reset (module and internal battery).

Yeah I find the module and battery reset only works about 50% of the time and isn't permanent.

Mine caused the battery drain. Something the master tech at my local hadn’t seen before.

He left me a print out of which fuse to pull if it does it again so I can at least keep using the car till they can see it. Fuse 11 from memory. Think it’s mentioned earlier in this thread too.

There is a known issue with the TCU causing a battery drain which is what this latest update is meant to rectify, if it's still draining then I'm wondering if your module is just faulty which is why you're getting the message keep popping up every now and again

It only caused a drain when it failed. And it’s only come up with the message once so far.

No drain since it’s been reset. In fact as soon as the flat battery occurred it stop draining and started working again. I guess because the flat battery caused the module to hard reset anyway.

Mine was running the latest update as of 22nd July. Unless there has been another update since then.

True it would hard reset. That should be the latest level, I'm not aware of a newer version.

I'm so glad I'm not working at the sharp end dealing  with ***** off customers anymore!😀😀

Out of interest do you know what software version you are on @alexp999 ?

The last time I checked mine in May it was on  JX7T-14G139-CR. It was on -CN last year so it has been updated at some point.

Mine is not a ST so the versions may be different anyway.

Thanks Alex, it's comforting to know that my one has updated itself to the latest version.

I have a 2020 Focus ST built in May I believe. This started the other day with a failure of the instrument panel. No lights on the instrument panel or anything else, just dead. Restarted the car and still dead. Drove home, left it for about 20 minutes, started it up and now it was fully working.

The next day, set off for work and had to reverse, the reversing beeps sounded tinny or weird, got to work and opened the door and also the door chime sounded weird too. Restarted the car, they then both sounded normal. Had this on a couple of occasions.

Now today, I've had the emergency call system malfunction appear on the car. Sync seems to work fine as does the phone being connected as I recieved a text which alerted me and read it out. Speakers seem fine though the SOS button does glow bright red.

Guess I'll have to book it in with lookers and see what they say.

I still have the same problem, Ford have attempted to load software and it fails. They are blaming ford U/S saying the software will not download to the car from the U/S.

They have had the car three days and still the same. I have been waiting for over three weeks for the garage to have a fix. Have they not heard of DVD's or flash drives to copy the software to one of their devices. This fault has been on three cars now over three years, a focus titanium 17,18 and 19 plate.. This time it will not go away like on previous cars. I have not been able to use my phone hands free in the car for over two months now.

The auto stop start works now and then and two windows have been playing up. One was reset and then another one plays up at random. The park pilot fault has not happen for some time now.

I have mentioned to the garage it could be the telematics unit but the say they have to load software first before they could replace it. As they cannot load software..........

Update:

I have now had a new telematics module fitted and the fault has gone. The new sync 3.4 S/W was also installed.

So far all ok even the stop start is working

Just for anyone else having this issue, right after I’d booked in for a service I noticed that my FordPass app wasn’t locking or unlocking the doors so I looked in settings and noticed my onboard modem serial number was missing.

Tried resetting all settings etc, nothing. Tried reseating fuse to reboot modem and seems to have worked.

If you’ve got this emergency call error and your modem serial is missing, remove fuse panel cover in passenger footwell, fully remove fuse 11, give it a wipe and reinsert. Fixed my error (and the FordPass app) straight away. Might be worth a try!

Thank you so much for this, I’ve had this issue since August until today on a Ford Focus 2019, took the car for service and the garage tried resetting the error several times.  It would disappear then reappear.  I still wasn’t able to make the car communicate with my Ford Pass... after removing the fuse and reseating... BOOM!! lol!  Everything works again and error has disappeared.

Just had this Emergency Call message - Focus Titanium X Auto on a 19 plate.

Already booked into the dealer on Thursday for stud replacement check recall 20S74 (took them 3 goes to sort out the first recall for the loom/stud).

The car drives well, and I am enjoying it, but little niggles like this are making me think about going back to Skoda. I had a 12 plate Octavia Estate, one recall in the whole 7 years I had it, and the only service action that was needed was a sensor on the internal alarm (that they found during a service!).

Got the option of ditching it at 3 years, might well do that.

Shame, as the car drives so well.

So it's been a while, thought I'd update this.

Didn't end up going to the dealers and I've had no issues since. I put it down to a low battery charge since at the time I was in and out the car doing the F9 map update over WiFi.

Pulled F11 (once I had worked out how to get to the fuse box!), all good now, modem serial appears and message has gone.

Thanks chaps!

  • 2 months later...

I got this message today on my Mk4 Focus.  It went away after a lock/unlock and restart.

If it happens again I'll try F11 but where on earth is the fusebox?  It's not behind the glovebox.

Fues box in passenger footwell behind large plastic cover. Take your passenger floor mat out and you will see the bottom of the cover. It just pulls off from the bottom edge.

I've had this come up the other day, been fine since it came up. Seems a few people have had. Coincidence or some kind of ota update that caused the warning?

  • 8 months later...

From what I’ve read the issue is related to the battery being default to only charge up to 80% as this saves fuel. The only permanent fix is to get FORscan and change the SOC to 95. This involves buying a cable and downloading some software on a laptop - doesnt seem too difficult but i only have a mac

Well, today I received the 'Emergency Call System Malfunction' message.  Clicked 'ok' which made it go away.  On the drive home, it didnt re-appear,  so does this mean that its ok again?

Yes, all ok now until the next time.

Until next time? . . . .

Did everyone finally manage to get this one fixed?  or is it just a reoccurring issue which you just have to put up with?
