Handbrake cable help

Hi

Looking for some help with Middle handbrake cables purchased a new set and compared with old they are the same lengths, fitted new ones the same way as old came off, is it correct that the plate that connects the front cable from handbrake to middle section cable should sit at an angle of about 45 degrees due to one cable being longer than other or do I have wrong cables.?
