Went in today. As the defects are below the clear coat the only option is to strip back and complete the repair again so car is going back next week.

Free of charge, i hope..

yes no charge. could a reputable company seriously expect a customer to pay to correct their mistake?

So the car went in yesterday and came back with 'paint mapping' they tried fixing it by sanding but suffered strike through with no visible improvement to the "paint mapping'" so is now booked in for a 3rd time Monday.

So sorry to hear that 😥 . I can't imagine how frustrating and inconvenient that must be. Let's hope they get it right next time. I would name and shame them on here so we know who it is.

aka edge mapping is where the underlying repair shows through the top coat although the camera does a poor job of showing it its basically an outline of the repair site. i have included pics of the second repair showing the strike through and orange peel blend line.

Speaking about repairs, I had replaced the rear bumper on mine with a new genuine primed one and had it painted, Plus dent and paint work done at rear left fender also , work done at ford dealer, could you spot any difference ?

so my car went back and had the repair carried out and the repair generally seems good the only thing i have noticed. is the colour shifts depending on how you look at it i have included some pics of the repair at different angles. having looked at other cars this colour shift is quite common even some brand new cars on dealer forecourts.

i haven't waxed the repair site yet to give it time to fully cure chipsaway have advised against washing /polishing / waxing for 3 days but internet say don't wax for between 30-90 days its been 11 days since the last repair should i go ahead and wax it as its been over 3 days or should i wait longer?

That's looking good to me! Some friends of ours have a Fiesta in Deep Impact Blue that has needed a couple of minor repairs. Their bodyshop told them it was a very difficult colour to match. It's a nice looking colour and was very popular but seemed to be discontinued quite quickly - I wonder if it was anything to do with repair issues?

Both the repairers I've used advised leaving for a minimum of 3 days before washing/waxing.

Looks a bit dark to me! What does the other side look like ? Have you compared ? Can you see the blend line/edge ?

It's all down to you if your happy with it being a bit darker.

to be fair the colour match is good and i cannot see the blend between old and new i have taken some more pictures this morning so in different lighting conditions than yesterday and the colour shift looks reduced.

Im now coming to the conclusion that the colour shift is due to changing light conditions and the fact that the bumper is curved and so at a slightly different angle than the wing. does anyone agree with this?

Difficult from photos, particularly with a lot of reflections and, as you say, a complex shape. It's not very helpful, I know, but whenever I see my friends' car it never seems the same twice due to different lighting conditions, how it's parked, even how clean it is and the colour does seem to lighten or darken as you view it from different angles.

It's like that with our Fiesta, straight on and there's slightly different shades to the bumper/wing/door/door/back bumper... But looking to the side/front it becomes as one.
