Mines on mains but I've never heard it, definitely doesn't beep after a power cut...  I just assumed it works as the lights on, not sure I dare try it until everyone else in our block is out!

haha  Does that mean you don't test your smoke alarms?

I do like getting the all clear from the doctor further to a cancer scare.  Still got lots of problems in my life but at least now I've (hopefully) got a lot of time to deal with them.

  • I do like finally finishing a model kit I first started 5 and a half years ago.  It's a very special model that i was supposed to finish by the time the aircraft took her final flights across the UK

Lol, nope, back at 'home' the smoke alarm used to go off most days for toast or some other burnt food.  Never really thought about it since I've been here, just noted that there's always a light on it and assumed that's the test lol.

Umm...  The light being on means that it is getting power and the light works, doesn't mean the siren does!!  You wouldn't say that a car's engine will run just because the headlamps come on.

Well I cant argue with that logic!    I'll test it tomorrow when everyone's out.

Unless I die in a fire tonight lol.

Knowing your luck, that'll probably happen!

I like the offer I made being accepted on 4 metal round things that most cars need, with rubber bits on the outside too!

Should be delivered tomorrow.

Hmm...  Be sure to post some pictures when they arrive!

Will do! Or better still, on the car!

They're only 17's so not much different size wise, just much prefer the design.

Once they're fitted I can go about selling the old ones and recoup quite a bit back (with luck)!

I wouldn't be that lucky! :sad::laugh:

Anyway, after prodding the wrong bit for 5 minutes (looked like a button and had 'push to test' written on it!) finally realised it was referring to the LED next to it.  I'll now be deaf for the next week but it definitely works lol!  Will have to set myself a reminder to check again in another 18 months.

I do like have a refreshing walk with Brandy in several of the forecasted showers, and then drying off in the between showers sunshine.

My mains powered fire/smoke  alarms has a battery back up in each pod, despite them all being linked, for those power cut occasions; I thought they all did.

Frying the spices when making a curry or grilling a pan full of kippers, usually trigger the downstairs hall one and a second or two later, all of the others, ring out:laugh: Much to the annoyance of Brandy and Molly, with their sensitive ears

I do like being on holibobs now until Wednesday :yahoo:

Looking forward to a wee trip down to Inversneckie tomorrow for Mrs T's birthday. It's her 40something birthday and it's her first birthday out of Orkney!

I do like, in the this is amusing sense, the excessively  large packaging my bearing seller employed.

A small bearing, approximately 20mm long and 5mm in diameter, which I was expecting it to arrive in a small jiffy bag, or a small box inside a small jiffy bag.

No, the seller sent it a massive jiffy bag, the size of of which, a car door would've been a bit loose in!

Upon receiving the package, I initially wondered who had sent me an enormous empty jiffy bag as there didn't appear to be anything in it:unsure:  it was only when I opened and inverted it, did my small bearing roll out!

That reminds me of when I ordered a replacement brush-roll for my Hoover Senior.  The bubblewrap weighed almost as much as the item!!

I do like finally having responses from recruiters and hiring managers. Some good feedback so fingers crossed for Next Week.

I ordered a mug online and expected the usual package (polystyrene cube), instead I got a box that would have taken a standard size microwave 90% stuffed with brown paper.

The mug was nestled right in tge middle.

Good old Amazon boxes 😊

I like seeing red, white and blue Fords parked in a line, thought it was quite fitting considering the day.

The blue Fez is my friends and obviously the Focus is mine.

I do like that this morning's walk with Brandy was in bright sunshine and rather warm: quite unlike the Novembers of my childhood.  I also gathered £15.45 in loose lost pavement change outside the takeaways.  Brandy took a fancy to a discarded kebab, propped up against a lamp post, but was denied the opportunity to sample it.

I thought of you yesterday lol, was walking along the pavement towards a well dressed older gentleman.  He chose the inside route so I moved to the roadside then he suddenly moved across to the roadside and stopped with a smug smile right in front of me... I had no idea what was going on, walked round him and turned back...to see him picking up a 20p coin from the floor!!  Made me chuckle anyway.

I do like taking the Focus out today.  As much as I moan about manuals and petrol engines, in the right mood I do enjoy the combination!

I do like finally completing the re-roofing, well in time for the forecasted torrential rain that should arrive at around 3am.  i also like that I had the foresight to buy some extra roofing sheets, for as it turned out, I cut the last sheet too narrow at the top by 8mm.  The roof is not actually rectangular/square, it's a trapezoid shape, the last sheet needed a  subtle taper; my sawing went adrift at the end:ohmy:

I came up with a watertight maintenance free solution for the edges.  I was going to route some 50mm square timber into mouldings to fit the last corrugation on each edge, silicone and then screw the sheet to it.

Then I had a thought: pipe insulation:biggrin: The 28mm x 13mm pipe insulation fits the corrugations, like fingers in a glove. they're also made of the same foam that eaves fillers are.  i experimented with one piece intact and another where I'd cut it into a semi circle. Allowing for the compression of the screws, keeping the insulation intact as a round, proved to make a better seal with the roofing sheet.  I  siliconed it to both the roofing sheet and the timber, and then fastened it down every 300mm with stainless steel screws, it held up to both a hose directed at it and then a blast from my Nilfisk pressure washer.  Absolutely no water ingress:smile:

I do like discovering this morning, during my body stats measurements, despite thinking not much had changed this week (clothes didn't feel less tight than last week), that I've lost a further 1.8 lbs, or 0.3% body fat, or 12mm in girth with my diet.  Which means, since I started on the 3rd October, I'm 16.6 lbs lighter, have 2.17% less body fat and am 38.1mm less girthsome.

I also like having some Screwfix vouchers come in the post, just as I'm considering buying a sliding compound mitre saw, one of which is for 15% off.  Machine Mart had a VAT free on Clarke/10% off everything else event on Sunday but they don't allow you the 10% off anything in the Xtra range, only the main catalogue. None of the saws I'm interested in are in the main catalogue.

I do like getting the C220 cleaned up, even if it did mean standing outside in in the freezing cold for over an hour!  With the wind-chill I reckon it was almost 0*C.

It isn't perfect, but considering I'd lost all feeling in my fingers after 10 minutes I think I did pretty well!!

That's come up nicely.

It's 12°C down here with a southerly breeze; making it feel like around 15°C
