2007 CC3 boot release stopped working.....?

A few weeks ago, the 'manual' boot release (the rubberised switch that is on the underside of the lid) on my CC3 stopped working, however, fortunately, the boot can still be opened by pressing the release button on the key fob twice. Does anyone have any clues as to what might be the problem with the mechanism of the 'manual' release and how to resolve it?
