Mods for 1.4 Titanium?

Realistically I realise that my car is probably the worst platform for mods but I’m still curious on what performance mods I could add to this car.

I’m not too familiar with modifications and stuff but I’m willing to get into it.

Anyone got any mod suggestions that would work for this car? Planning on going full out on this car

A similar question got asked the other day. See my reply here.

Basically, the best way to go faster in your car is to ditch weight.

If I had a pound for everytime someone came on here and said this, I'd be able to afford to go "full out" on a car.

At best you'll end up with a fartbox exhaust, a cone air filter, blacked out headlights and some silly badges/stickers.

Keep the rims small 15" and light,

Some Rota alloys or something light weight,

Remove spare wheel in favour of foam or an AA membership

Green cotton induction filter and irridium spark plugs,

Not much benefit to anything else in terms of gains to be honest,

Fitting a chip which makes the engine think it's cold; only puts more fuel in than necessary,

If you have a spare 500 pounds and don't drive long motorway journeys;  get a custom stainless exhaust fitted with 200cell catylist but if on motorway then it's resonating drone will wreck your head.

Would it be possible for a turbo to be fitted?

That's the other question that gets asked all the time 😂.

I suggest you Google how a turbocharged engine works. Then you'll realise the amount of work required in order to fit one.

Sure it's possible, but the cost of doing so would far exceed the value of the car.

Just the bare essentials is intercooler, turbo, custom exhaust manifold, custom exhaust system (mainly downpipe), new air intake, oil feed to and from the engine. Then you have to remap the car and get the boost dialed in.

Almost anything is possible if you throw enough time, effort and money at it. There are supercharger conversions around for the 1.6 which may be adaptable to the 1.4 but look at the cost:

Luke and Lenny have outlined the viable options above. If you want a faster car which is capable of further modification if desired, then I'm afraid the logical answer is to put your money into trading your vehicle for something else.

I recommend watching every single mightycarmods video 👍🏻

Painting your brake calipers red adds 10bhp but don't drive with only one side done or the car will do rings faster than a fly with only one wing on its body.

The existing aluminium engine block, piston rings and headgasket arent designed to handle boost pressure, not to mention the cost of full aftermarket ecu looking at 2,500 GBP plus labor then choose your turbo and find some place with rolling road to write a tune

Oh okay thanks for the advice lol as I said I don’t know that much when it comes to this.

btw can an exhaust system for a different engine be fitted on it

like this one for example:

Yes, but you'd have to change the rear diffuser to the one shown in the picture so you'd get the twin tail pipes. I'd imagine the diameter of the pipe is larger on the ST too, so you'd have to adapt accordingly.

You're also then making the car look and sound like something it isn't.

its cool mate,

we all stared on a forum somewhere; i was once in your shoes and had a 1.3 naturally aspirated Toyota Starlet, i even painted the engine red, and asked many questions regarding performance, later changed to bigger engines and spent loads 9,000 pounds over a period of five years on my 1.6TDCi focus, also had an AE111 Toyota Levin BZR, Nissan Almera and currently working on a 1.4 Hyundai ix20 as a second car since my focus is getting old now,

overall what I'm saying is; there's no such thing as a silly question, we have all been there, and what were all telling you on this thread is true and coming from experience.

now to answer your most recent post:

a duplex exhaust such as that one linked is possible for your fiesta, but not that particular one; it would be a waste of money for your particular engine,

it wont give you any increase in performance as the catalyst is the governing factor in terms of how much flow goes out of the exhaust,

the diameter of the exhaust also affects performance; too big and you get more noise but less performance, too small and you get back pressure damaging the engine,

you ideally need a duplex end made up to go from either your existing backbox or from your cat-back which would be a duplex pipe (2x exhaust tips on either end) and a performance back box also known as the muffler,

go to a local exhaust repair specialist and get a quote for fitting either option; a duplex end to the existing box or a replacement including muffler box in the diameter of pipe which suits your engine, the tips can be 5" or whatever you want but the operational pipes need to be correct, and anything 1.6 or below wont ever spit flames not even with a full straight pipe and spark plug in the exhaust.

Again, sensible advice from Luke and Lenny there. That exhaust you refer to is priced at £850, by the time you've got someone to remove the existing exhaust, fabricate a suitable adaptor, do the necessary bodywork mods etc you'll probably be well into four figures for something that will do nothing for performance (but your insurer will still want to charge you for modifications).

Like Lenny, I learned a lot of stuff the hard (and expensive!) way (there were no forums like this back then!), so I suggest you have a good think about what you want to achieve and how much you're prepared to spend on it. Putting the cash into, say, a 1.6 Zetec S or Metal of similar year would get you better performance, suspension and brakes, plus a sporty body kit and alloys and will be more desirable to a future buyer.

Have a look through the "Ford Project and Build threads" forum on this site to see what some members have done with their Mk 7s. You don't have to go mad with mods, some members have concentrated on subtly improving whats already there and ensuring things like brakes, steering, suspension and tyres are all A1 can make your car "faster" in reality than a big exhaust, even if not quite as sexy.

Fitting 35mm lowering springs is a fun modification which increases handling aswell as the appearance;

Also gives the impression of faster as your lower to the ground and the handling is more predictable so providing your tires are good then it can make driving more fun,

Eibach are the brand ford supply as an optical extra back in 2010, I've got my focus on Eibach springs too,

Must get tracking alignment done afterwards to prevent excessive tire wear and optimise the handling,

Different spring sets for petrol and diesel models because diesel are heavier engine.

Lowered with a rear spoiler and some led parking bulbs, led reverse, reg plate bulbs and SilvaTec chrome indicator bulbs, rear tint window and Hecko wind deflectors on the front, would be finished.

Keep the rim size low though; fitting bigger rims or brakes contribute to unsprung mass and that takes more power away from the engine,

Some EBC GreenStuff brake pads are a nice upgrade, and check eBay for some cross drill & groove brake discs, make a nice shoeeee. Sound when braking increased quality and look good
