Ford mk3 2012 Power Drain

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have a 2012 1.6 focus estate and there seems to be a power drain. Sometimes when I’m in traffic it just cuts out and the other day the power completely went. The battery is just over a year old and after a drive it charged up fine. The only thing I can think is it’s linked to the A/C as it only seems to happen when it is on. Has any come across this problem?
thanks

The A/C compressor is most probably starting to seize-up. They put a tremendous strain on the engine as they get stiffer (you risk the aux belt snapping).

When you switch the A/C off the electromagnetic clutch disengages the compressor and takes the load off the engine.

Thanks for the help, is replacing the A/C a big and expensive job?

thanks

Big job .... not particularly, half a day would normally see it done.

Expensive ..... yes, expect to pay a garage £700 +

Thing is, if I'm right about the compressor needing to be replaced it will totally fail within a couple of months.
