Weather warning...

I have kinda got my head round being left in the EU even though Northern Ireland is part of the UK and we should have left with the rest of you guys. But, this weather is really p*ssing me off! Most are being drenched in the most beautiful summer sunshine, whilst today, as usual, it's been raining here and we're barely pushing 17c - it's just not fair!!

You're not alone, Stephen. We've just returned from our caravan up the Dales - up there it was 14C, pi**ing down and what is euphemistically referred to in those parts as a "fresh breeze"!😀

Welcome to an Orkney summer!!! 🌧️🌧️🌥️☀️🌦️🌧️🌧️🌧️

The weather can do what it wants as it generally does.

Working Saturday and Sunday and took a few hours off this afternoon to get the budgie smugglers ready for action Monday/ Tuesday before returning to work on Wednesday next week.

As I think you said at the time Kevin, our visit last month in beautiful weather was obviously not typical!

Maybe we're just lucky with cruises. We had one a few years back way into the Arctic Circle up to the North Cape of Norway. Everyone had packed thermals and waterproofs and it turned out to be scorching every day - shorts and T-shirt stuff. Every day the Captain came on the PA system to say "Ladies and Gentlemen, this is is not normal" !😀

👍👍

On the two hot days, I think I might have to spend a few hours in my local air conditioned library.  Or the 13th century church which is a 2 minute walk from home - I'm guessing that'll be quite cool, with its 3 ft thick walls.

Good old BBC weather forecast has now upped Mondays temp up another 2degrees!!

Some years ago I was in Las Vegas, where the temperature hit 44c for a few consecutive days. Goodness knows how I'm here to tell the tale as the US government assumed I had common sense, to stay in the shade, and drink plenty of water without issuing hourly warnings that everyone is going to die...

Worst I've had was 38.7 c in salou Spain back in 2009. And I survived . How I don't  know as we were out in  it drinking beers and in the sea. See, some of us do need to be told . No assuming just an *****.

Can't even say I was an irresponsible teenager. 45years young and irresponsible

We were in Salou in 2012, wasn't as hot though 😃

Different kind of heat though say the experts. Dry heat in Spain, humid in this country.

36 degrees in the shade at 0730 Morocco in June and heading for breakfast wasnt great either a few yrs ago followed by the thud of holidaymakers passing out later in the day when having too little water and too much Alcohol and wondering why when they get up off of the sunbed after laying in the scorching heat that they flake out when they stand up.

Never seen so many people flocking to the shady areas.

Nipped out quick this morning to Argos for a smart plug, now i can turn off/on my 16" wind turbine from bed haha

Hottest place so far today only 5 miles from me. I'm staying cool in the house with windows and curtains shut. South facing garden in the shade is 31c.

Did you do that because the government is in 'nannying' mode & told you, or, have you just got some common sense? LOL

Actually it's common sense not that many would believe me. Then ive got my partner opening the patio door when I go and get some diesel. Come back and all my effort wasted.

I have a routine dental check-up on Tuesday at 1400. Don't want to change it, as appointments are difficult to get. I have to be careful in the sun and heat because of specific health problems. A 20-minute walk, and am working out a route that will take me along shady pavements and into a couple of shops en route. But the "nice cool library" closes at 1200.

On arrival, I have ring reception on my mobile and wait to be admitted. IIRC the doorstep will be in blazing sunshine.

But pity the dentist and nurse in their PPE.

I suppose I could drive, but I'm prejudiced against short car journeys and the Fiesta will be baking hot when I emerge from the surgery.

Fully agree windows shut barr trickle vents and heavy curtains drawn, stops the house warming up so stays semi manageable.

I'm at the dentist thersday 21st its supposed to break by then.

I've been trying to decide whether to keep vents open tomorrow or shut them.

So far it's been roughly as warm outside as in during the hottest pat of the day (30c give or take) but with 35c+ forecast tomorrow I'm wondering if it's best to keep the vents closed at least until temp drops below 30c outside.

I keep mine open to allow a slight movement of air to ease condensation etc from cooking and the like. I used to work in double glazing from manufacture to management and if i had a pound for everytime i told someone with condensation or even mould to open a ***** window or keep the vents open. Mine are open 24/7/365 only shut the bedroom one a couple of times a year with the wind in the wrong direction as it whistles. It's why trickle vents are part of building regs and are sized by the room they go in.
