So we shouldn't bother doing anything to try and reduce them then?  Just let forests/fields of crop/people's houses & livelihoods go up in smoke?

I posted this this very morning...

I've been preached to since the 70s about global warming, of course, then there was mass hysteria of global 'cooling'! Get over yourselves, the climate is always changing. The UK contributes less than 1% of global emissions, if we achieved 'net zero' tomorrow morning, that's the effect we'd have - zero! China has approaching 2000 coal fired power stations - the UK has ONE! China has 28% of global emissions, so basically, no matter what the UK does, we're just going along for the ride, but due to green hyperbole, we're bankrupting ourselves in the process...

Anything we 'think' we are doing to prevent climate change is simple virtue signalling to pacify our conscience. We actually have no real effect whatsoever and are simply 'passengers' on what China, India, and of course, the good old USA are spewing out.

As for protecting property, better education would help. Like if you have a wheelie bin full of grass cuttings, put your hand in it 2 days later and just feel how hot it gets as it composts. Teaching people how nature works would be a good start so you can gauge what composting could potentially do if placed near dry tinder... (I've just seen a TV interview with a resident who said the fire started with some compost in a garden)

Of course it needs a global effort, no one's suggesting the UK can make the necessary impact alone.

But we also can't preach to other countries if we're not pulling our weight in the first place.

The 'every country for themselves' attitude and the short 4/5 years terms of governments in places like the UK & US don't help the situation at all.

If I was designing the 'solution', I'd create a global organisation with members from every country, and without any political bias, to work out realistic plans for each country.  I know that'll never happen though.

mmm... James Bond spends a whole a career fighting against such an organisation LOL 🤣

Agreed. That's why I always chuck my fast food packaging onto the pavement after I've enjoyed the food. After all, I only contribute 0.1% of the litter in my home town so there's no point me making the effort when nobody else does.

You're right about the railways & roads not being designed to cope with the heat in this country...but unless we've got the spare money & manpower to upgrade them, we're stuck with those for now.

The problem is not climate change, it's the current speed of the change.  Living organisms can't adapt quickly enough the current rate of change, and infrastructure can't be upgraded quickly enough to manage it either.

The speed of change needs to be reduced as much as possible, as soon as possible.

"WE" as in the UK contribute negigably to Global warming, its everyone else, Chin, India, America, and now Brazil etc with its deforestation looking for gold.

Europe pre stresses its rails for a wider range of temperatures, most of our rail infastructure was built in the 30's and before and rising temperatures wernt even on the horizon then.

Nuclear is the only true kinda clean as wind, wave etc will never supply the earths inhabitants lifestyles, unless we go back to being cavemen.

You haven't got the hang of this yet. You should bring the packaging home with you, then burn it in an open fire! 😂

Good job no-one buys gold in the UK then.  Oh wait...   That also goes for every other commodity that causes deforestation through mining or through planting huge single species farms.  'We' also buy plenty of crap from China, because their labour is cheaper, and their dirty energy is cheaper.  The idea that the UK barely contributes is not true in the grand scheme.  Our direct emissions are only a part of this, which is why it needs a global effort.

I wonder how many fires have been caused across the world by this sort of idea in just the last few weeks.  'It's just one cigarette butt...the worlds full of them anyway.'  Sadly, that mindset seems to be all too common.

Tom, you forgot to mention the Lithium, and various other elements that go to make up that awfully 'green' battery car that the government are mandating the market to sell in a few years LOL

Not at all, that's all included in the 'commodity' part and the fact that our direct emissions are only part of the overall figure.  I literally couldn't have made that any clearer!

Because every single item was cheaper, including postage!! Cleverness, utter cleverness...

Maybe off topic now but, isn't it better today, even if it is raining.

Last 2 days I've struggled to work in the heat. Today no heat and I'm struggling to work. Ok, I can't be bothered today.

Still ridiculously hot here & no rain so far!

Currently 33c in my flat...hotter than both Mon & Tues!

Tom, a bit of drizzle here, and a cool 17c, mind you, even yesterday it barely made 23c! No, I don't want to swap 😂

I was planning to try and walk to the post box today based on previous forecast but no chance of that now lol.  Current forecast suggests we should get a few days below 25c for the rest of the week, but then up to 28c again on Sunday.  No proper rain forecast for the rest of the month either.  Already looks like the savanna outside!

LOL, every single item works perfectly, and I'm delighted with them all. Now, where do you think a 'local' supplier gets their stock from? Yep, China 🤣 all I did was cut out the middleman...

Not all items from China are the real deal though.

Plenty if dodgy chargers have caused no end of house fires and car fires for that matter.

I wouldn't be putting my loved ones or myself at risk just to save a few £.

Each to their own.

Yes indeed, all those Hotpoint Tumble Dryer house fires, I remember them well, oh, wait a minute, they weren't from China...🤣

EDIT

I was actually going to correct that it wasn't a 'phone charger' I bought but a USB 'c' cable to plug into my existing USB plug which I bought in a shop here. Just had a look at it, you'll never guess where it was made 😂😂😂

Is there anything 'small electrical ' that isn't made in China nowadays?

Seriously struggling to find anything that isn't.

Most small electricals are made in China but they're not all made equally.

Personally, I do pay the extra for genuine charging cables after the issues that were highlighted a few years back.  At least they've got the best chance of being made to a decent standard and regularly quality control checked.

Not bothered about small plastic items or things that can't pose a safety risk.

I assume then your an Apple guy then?

Never used an Apple product so far.  Both Apple and Android charging cables are probably made in the same factories though!

Made in China isn't the issue.

It's the designed in China part that can be the problem.

Cheap chinese clones often skip or reduce the safety components/design to cut cost.

This is wildly off topic though, everyone back to normal temps now?
