Hi jamiejek...thanks for your reply and I have to say that I am currently having no regrets at having swapped to the Kona and just to confirm the above comments from others that faults can happy to any car at any time, my sister-in-law has a 2016 Nissan Qashqai 1.2 petrol and 3 weeks ago it started playing up on a return journey from the North-East and it now transpires that the timing chain has stretched (a common fault with this engine apparently) and they have been quoted £1500 to change it but they are waiting to see if Nissan will contribute towards the cost. I advised my bro to get shut but they are just waiting to see how Nissan respond before deciding what to do.

I was wondering how your getting on with the Kona. What size wheels has it got. Heard 18in rims make the ride a bit choppy.

  • So, I part-ex'd the Focus yesterday and am now the proud owner of a 2018 Hyundai Kona Premium. I've spent all day tinkering and fettling (as I do with all my cars when I first get them) and couldn't b

Got to say I'm seriously impressed with it...feels a bit more responsive than the Focus and really love the style of both the car and the 18" alloys and can't say I've noticed a choppy ride 👍

The only gripe I have is with the extreme lack of activity on the Kona forums board....the last post on there was 11 days ago....jeez it's like pulling teeth, honestly 🥱

That's because there's probably not many with problems. Most people come on the ford forum due to having an issue that needs fixing.

Which is why Ford stands for Fix Or Repair Daily, presumably.

Car forums in general have been pretty inactive for nearly a decade now.  I don't really understand why this one is still so active!  I think it's more about the community than broken cars on here.

Probably right, Tom. This is generally a very friendly forum and members seem to have a very wide range of knowledge and life experience which is very helpful (and entertaining). I've had some great diy tips on here about shower and door lock repairs!

I have noticed the Toyota forum seems quite active. There seem to have been a lot of posts about 12v battery problems following lockdowns/low usage, etc, so even a brand with a good reputation for reliability is not immune to that one!

Quite a lot of activity also on the Hyundai n-cars forum, though, as here, a lot of that is about delivery delays.

It's the same few people on here doing most of the posts though.

Putting my Mondeo on autotrader next week. I'm either going to  Hyundai Kona or ioniq, Toyota chr or corolla.

I keep finding myself looking at the CHR - it looks pretty wacky but I'm strangely drawn to it for some reason.

I keep threatening to go for a test drive in a full hybrid such as that or a Corolla. I've always been a manual fan, but the arthritis in my clutch foot (an indirect result of my motorbike accident years ago) is getting worse so an auto of some sort might be on the cards. I'm thinking if I did that, might as well look at an FHEV.

The time to change is getting sooner that is forcertain but as to what too I'm still on the fence tbh.

A few cars are still lacking in specification, hopefully that scenario improves shortly.

Do like the look of the new Kia Niro 4 as I'm also looking at raising the driving height and has a decent specification.

I've been reading up on the hybrid drive train and its a clever , relatively simple set up and very reliable. Most efficient hybrid out there.

Yes, I've been a bit put off in the past by Toyota - and Honda- hybrids being referred to using the term e-CVT. Any mention of CVT brings back thoughts of Daf Daffodils and pulleys with rubber belts, but as you say, they're nothing like that!

Toyota have distanced themselves from that, now, though by calling it Hybrid Synergy Drive while Honda's site uses the term e:HEV.

The CHR is not that great on the inside, I found it quite claustrophobic. The infotainment system is lagging behind compared to other brands.I ended up with the Honda HRV E HEV.Absolutely no regrets in purchasing it.Corolla would be the better choice than the CHR.Further to your comments in regards to the CVTin the Honda, it is not a traditional CVT in the sense it does not have a belt & pulley system, rather it has a lock up clutch pack which connects the ICE to the trans @ speeds over 80-100kph or when sudden acceleration is required.Honda’s Hybrid system is also slightly different to the Toyota system, @ will run on pure electric power further than Toyota’s, it is a very good setup. If you want more info on the system, go to ‘Weber auto’s. Understanding Honda Hybrid E-drive.(YouTube’) OR Alex on Auto’s : How does it work?Honda’s two motor Hybrid system explained.(YouTube).Highly recommended.

They are a lot more expensive in the UK than here in Australia.

Lots of Toyota hybrids where I am in Barcelona at the moment. Prius and corolla taxis everywhere.

Same here in Australia, Taxis are mainly Camry & Prius.

Go for it.... I mean go for the test drive - it'll save you hours agonising/overthinking.  It's the only way you will know if you like a hybrid or not.

You will know either way after 10 minutes!

It is a different way of driving, regen braking etc… Just love the technology.

I'm going to test a corolla 1.8 hybrid next weekend if I'm over my cold. And test a Hyundai ioniq electric . Narrowed down to those 2 .
