A.Kipps
Hi there I've recently purchased a 2001 Mark 5 Ford Fiesta Fun (1.3) and the key seems to jam when used on the drivers door. I took the car to the mechanic and he said to try and get a new key cut as that would most likely be the fix and then get it programmed which will cost about £40! Is that information correct, why would it be the key if it only didn't work in one lock barrel and why would it need programming if it is a simple mechanical key? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a lot
wase16ll
its common for the tumblers in the lock barrel to become worn, you can buy kits to strip the barrel and replace the tumblers or renew the complete barrel. drivers door is the most common lock to wear first as its obviously the one that gets used the most. it is possible that if key is worn too, then a new key may well work, but locks tend to wear before key does. if you have no problem with the ignition lock/key then get the door barrel rebuilt/replaced... with regards to programming, he is referring to the immobiliser chip in the key, so a new key would certainly open the door, but wont start the engine till its programmed
