Use Iphone As A Security Device.

I just had a short brain storm...
What if I used my old iPhone as a security device for my car?

I heard there is a secret "compartment" under the radio in the fiestas, which it could sit in, and just leave it plugged in constantly to a usb connected to the back of the usb port (on the centre dock)

You could use the phones GPS to track the car (Find my iPhone on icloud) and if you can, get an app that remotely takes photos via gps / 3G

I'm seriously considering it, cheaper than buying a tracking device and paying the monthly subscriptions, surely?

Definitely a decent idea.

Shouldn't drain your battery and as long as you've a signal you're fine.

I don't know how iPhones work but won't it require a SIM card with data access in order to use the 3G?

An addition to this*
Use the "WAZE" app (satnav - TOTALLY recommend it btw) to track the EXACT location of the car and track the speed, miles etc...
add me if you have it already: uuilliam ;)

I think an iPhone costs significantly more than a tracker :P

Plus what if someone rings/texts you? "Sorry I didn't reply, left phone in the car - on purpose!"

*old iPhone :P

plus can get a 3gs off eBay for £30 - 80 now just the tracker you need really)

The only downside is, it wouldn't help your insurance premium at all, I don't think. whereas an official tracker should reduce your premium.

A new SIM with only you knowing the number is the best option.

I still reckon it's a very innovative idea.

It's actually a very good idea :) only thing I'd be slightly worried about is the battery frazzling and potentially a fire hazard? I mean if its going to be plugged in all the time for a year it can't be healthy
