See Some Folk Still Want Mondeo's Lol

C,mon its a no-brainer. If youre on here asking about buying a used mondeo, for gods sake, dont go near one.

Mines has a new Gearbox,EGR(theres a grand straight away,& the box was under half price!!!

I dont rag mines,in fact it gets treated really well. had been averaging 52mpg overall.

But the cons are: It still pulls to the left,& eveything has been renewed nearly. Seemingly the rack control valves are prone to be problematic, but ah hell,i can live with that for now.

EGR,injector,PCM issues that are just waiting for ya at ur lowest ebb,to appear lol

the only pro i can think of is that theyre fairly comfy to drive.(my 406 was the comfiest car ever).

That brings me to todays good news.I was hearing a clacking when engines cold,& thought it was lifters or thereabouts,so I put it into a diesel specialist(guys at the top o his game up here),& foned him wee while ago.

"Ah the problem is your injectors, theyve been tested(all four),and ALL four are Kaput".He could try a valve repair, but success rate is average & no telling how long they'd last so no guarantee....OR replace all four injectors at a lovely £700. AAAhhhhh Ford I hate your very name.

So anyway Ive decided to replace all four. He did say once its done it'll run spot-on 100%.

I have no faith in any car made by Ford whatsoever. Even VW/Audi injectors are better(yes you heard me right, even the PD injectors!). Another specialist said that the Delphi's are absolute rubbish,& ford shouldnt have chosen them in the 1st place.

A few regulars wont like this because o me rubbishing the Mondeo, but a hell of a lot o folk will agree with me.I just wouldnt like to see anyone else get lumbered with one o these piles a kak.

If someone offers you mondy, dont buy it.If its really cheap, definitely dont buy it lol.Theres dozens of em for sale all with misfires(slight lol),erratic idles, electronic issues,& if the owners dont wanna keep em,it tells you something right there.

Can understand your frustration, I think you seem to have had a certain run of bad luck with the car, I dont think anyone could blame you if you wanted to chop it in.

I know most cars have there weaknesses and certainly pitfalls, do you think thought that (as my old Focus was) your car might be the 'runt of the litter' and just the unlucky one that caught all the diseases its mum and dad never should have shared with it?

Every manufacturer has it's 'friday' cars unfortunately but one bad apple doesn't make for a bad crop.

So was mines. Fsh everything. If i drove an auto id maybe half agree. But since i drive a manual with the worst 6 speed ever made,i beg to differ. Every mondeo tdci with this 6speed box over 80k has a really weak synchro and 2nd gear WILL start to fail. Ive driven 3 mondys this week wi crap 2nd synchro problems. They are a sad joke on the whole. Then theres injectors messing up codes, pcm oddities, extremely bad typical ford electrical connectors under the bonnet. Springs break quite easily,a lot of mondeos have faulty steering rack valves. Euro4 is a joke electrically.

Well i have had my Mondeo diesel 8 years (+100k miles)

it started with 113Hp and now it has 160+ it still has the original injectors and fuel pump/s (ok the TDDI ones are tougher than the TDCI ones)

The car is very fast, reliable, economical and is also comfortable and handles well - the estate is also very big & practical

I have owned / driven many cars, including BMW, Rover, Honda, Nissan Toyota, VW, Vaxhall, MG, Citroen, Pugs etc, etc, (and quite a few Fords)- ive kept my mk3 diesel Mondeo the Longest, nothing i have owned can do what it does (especally the balance of performance/ economy) it is an exellent car - i intend to keep it a lot longer and have big(er) plans for it

The Delphi injectors (mk3 Mondeo TDCI - 2000-2007) were never designed to run on modern low sulphor diesel - (the sulphor lubricated the injectors), but yes, the Delphi injectors are not the best (Delphi were part - owned by GM/ Vaxhall)

Many moderm DMF (dual mass flywheel) equipped diesels have problems not just Mondeos/ Fords (they all eventually wear out - unless you fit an SMF)

Running a car is often about servicing it right (getting the right people to service it) and making the right decisions (eg - EGR blanking etc - if you insist on not fitting a blanking plate you are bound to run into problems) and not trying to cut corners which might mean more problems in the long run

My EGR has been mapped-out for the last 2 weeks & yes its a euro4!! Had vacuum disconnected for ages before that.

Mines now puts out a touch more than 160.(came with the map). Mind u,doesnt mean zip with a £700 bill for injectors

I often wonder where you can take your Mondeo next FOCA, I look forward to seeing your plans, as short of sticking a lambourghini bodywork on it, I thought you had done pretty much everything lol :)
