Kenneth_Lockwood
Hi guys! Might sound like a silly question but has anyone got any advice on the right tyre pressure to use for a heavy load (car full :p) in a zetec s with 195/45/r16 tyres. Book says 42 psi for the rear but thought I'd ask and see if anyone had any experience/advice on if this is best cause seems quite high? MattDRX
The rear pressures are very high on fiestas for some reason. Might be due to there is literally no weight on the back. Sent from my SM-N9005 using Ford OC mobile app
SandyCat
The tyre itself will also show its maximum pressure.
martyntdci
rear normal is 29, and full load is 37... this is from ford's placard
iNath
The tyre itself will also show its maximum pressure. But that will be something stupidly high like 75psi and definitely NOT how much you should be putting in.
MattDRX
Yep that's the burst limit. Sent from my SM-N9005 using Ford OC mobile app
Stoney871
There should be a load chart on the drivers side door frame.
martyntdci
off topic a tad, but worth checking none the less http://www.dealerrater.com/recalls/Ford/FIESTA/
SandyCat
I didn't say it's how much you should put in but it's a pointer if like the OP he felt it was too high. Mine for example says 51psi which is hardly the 75 you suggest. Maybe check your own first ;)

Cheers Kirsty x Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC Its not too high - i run my rears at 41psi all the time ( though its a Mondeo estate/ cornered hard/ hypermiling) - if there is a heavy load in it even at that they can look soft If it is driven with too high a pressure (inside the tyres' maximum) the ride can suffer and you may wear out the middle of the tread before the sides/ shoulders but a high pressure can reduce drag, increasing MPG slightly - too low a pressure can wear out the shoulders, and increase drag (reducing MPG) - finding the right pressure ror you is a compromise between all these factors - dependant on load, the way the car is driven, the aspect ratio and the make/ model of tyre fitted - hence the pressure only being "recommended"
Kenneth_Lockwood
Thank you everyone for your replies! I checked the placard on the passenger side door panel and said 41, but just seemed high. I did put it up though, and journey was fine. Managed a car full plus boot full from Leeds to Chelmsford with no bother, even managed the whole round trip on one tank of Diesel! Plus a trip round Southend whilst down there! :D very chuffed! Thanks guys K x Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC
