Took focus to local garage today to have it's back box removed and a straight through pipe installed from the centre silencer pops nicely when you lift of the throttle

Unfortunately it has died the engine caught fire last night and it's looking like it could be classed as a write off :(

The power steering pump leaked onto the manifold and ignited setting alight all the wires and pipes at the front of the engine and from there on out it just spread but hasn't enterd the interior just the engine is severally damaged :(

Crikey, sorry to hear it matey, hopefully you get its worth or can an under bonnet swap resolve it?

It all depends upon the insurance asseser when they come as to wether it's a write off or can be repaired but it looks like it could be a full engine rebuild :(

So sorry to hear this. :( I'm sad for you and for the loss of another MK1. Im worried that they will go into a rapid decline like the Escort.

Paul just read about this really sorry to hear about it. If they write it off you could always buy it off them usualy get it pretty cheap and then put a new engine in? Otherwise new car, what would you think about getting.

At least the fuel rails and pipes and the ecu are still Ok but all other plastic parts are destroyed due to the heat

It's just if the cost of rebuilding the entire engine bay outways the cost of the entire car it's wrote off that's my main concern :(

Sorry to hear this, hopefully the insurance will be fair to you. Are you still thinking about getting a new car like you mentioned at Ford Fair? If you get a decent payout from the insurance you could use it as a deposit.
