hi martyntdci

that's great for the extra information hopefully the message gets across

just hope people don't remove there filters from there cars. i know now it's illegal and can fail a mot what i don't know is can there be a fine involved

2005 focus 1.6 tdci ..... 46.9mpg around town...haven't done any motorway yet...... Dpf removed .... getting remap on the 27th of this month.

You will see significant gains after a good remap & DPF removal mate. I used to get around 42 MPG mix of motorway and town. Now I get 60MPG + :-)

As far as DPF removal is concerned, I know an MOT tester and if worst comes to worst....

It was like that when I bought it!

You obviously wouldn't get away with that if you owned it from new!

to be fair, the alternative answer is "whilst away on holiday my car broke down, I took the car to a garage with a DPF issue, they fixed it and I didnt understand how they did, they just told me it wouldnt be a problem" and if they ask who or where "I had a local fella towed me to the nearest garage, I paid cash for the job".

How are they going to disprove it?

Very good....... Will commit that to memory. :-)

neither party can prove the argument either way, so if it went to court how could you be prosecuted?

Your in an unfamiliar environment, you dont know the garage because you dont live around there, you just want it fixing so tell them "do whatever you need to do, keep the costs down and give me the bill at the end" and incidentally you cant find the paperwork, there is no audit trail from card payments or anything so what can they do?

Don't know about anyone else but I'd rather just avoid the situation of having to prove/disprove anything if I can. As such I'll be leaving mine on!

Regarding legality, even before the specific DPF MOT check, hasn't it always been illegal to significantly modify the emissions system?

I see your point JOn, I dont need to worry about it, but for those who really dont want to have to pay an extra £1000 and can save themselves £650 at least, I would definatey personally do it!

As for the fiddling, it was illegal to manipulate the system if it then caused the engine to fail an MOT emissions test. For example, you could rip the guts out of it, and removal all the uro cack, as long as you stayed below the noise line and the pollution line, and as long as you manage that then it was fine.

Came across these www.avontuning.co.uk just waiting on a reply for a price

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for your enquiry. Cost for complete DPF removal on your vehicle is £399 including VAT.

That includes the physical removal of the filter and the ECU reprogram to prevent future DPF regeneration and warning lights, once we have completed our DPF removal service we offer a lifetime guarantee against any future DPF issues and warning lights.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Avon are good, and are in fact one of the forum sponsers I believe! We might also have a discount with them!

The fact that you get the lifetime guarantee is the best part, but I would ask for confirmation on wether or not you get a full removal or just a "gutted" DPF, if you have it removed and a straight through put on that will cause problems!

i believe going from previous quote they just gut the inside of DPF and weld back up which will be the best way going forward for MOT checks :p
