Things I Don't Like

Featured Replies

A 1.2 Clio would have got there eventually... My 106 NA Diesel managed 95 (downhill admittedly) but 80ish everywhere else. Thing is, I've owned some 'fast' cars but I always find it's the slow ones where I drive the hardest, they're the ones with worse brakes etc as well and I don't know why, trying to prove something maybe? Not wanting to lose momentum definitely... Had far more near misses in that 57bhp 106 than the 180bhp Golf or 167bhp GTi6.

Point is, you don't need a fast car to drive fast. I've also not been caught speeding in 5+ years driving, that doesn't mean I haven't done it - however I don't believe speed is always dangerous either depending on conditions and road type. I wish there would be somewhere you could legally use speed other than expensive track days though. Could open up unused air fields for it (theres 2 near me!), private land and sign a disclaimer etc. Would take it away from the public roads and allow people to really push their cars in a safer environment. Problem is you can't find the limits of a car until you've passed them, which is obviously dangerous on the public road, not so much in the middle of a field...

That's my point, "idiots gonna idiot"....edit, (to clarify, I'm not calling you an idiot, I just mean, idiocy and youth are sort of hand in hand... Idiocy and 'adults' are also hand in hand amongst me and my friend circle.. But we've decided we're less mature now in our late 20's than we were in our early teens..)

But perhaps you having near misses in a slow car says more about you and your driving and the risks you're taking than anything else...

You're clearly someone that likes to test limits. But let's say your driving was restricted to a certain car strength, certain hours, certain passengers.. You might have not has as many opportunities to take the risks..

I can honestly say I've overtaken when I've seen a car coming the other way because I knew I could make it... I'm not strictly sure if that is legal, there was no flashing of lights or swerving/hooting/swearing etc I was right back in time, however I chose to overtake because I knew it was possible, regardless of safety, it WAS possible...however in a van that drives like a slug on a slow day, I'd not have done it, because I KNOW it wouldn't be possible... That kind of stuff only comes from experience and/or common sense... Neither of which a selection of new drivers have (majority or minority)...

My 1.2 1996 Clio was nippy, winding roads were the best! But I had some self preservation knowing acquaintances and friends killed...that is where the "day talks" are handy in school.

Failing all that... Give everyone a high powered car and the sensible bunch of us will stay inside for a couple of weeks and let nature take its course with the rest... Could have all driving tests only taken in March, all licences and cars issued on April 1st and a scrap yard special offer sale on May the 1st..,

I don't like the driver in front this morning who slammed on her brakes for no reason, I had to slam on mine as a result and so on. After that I left a huge gap only for her to do it again halfway up the same road, fortunately this time all I had to do was ease off...

You seriously have to wonder why they're on the road :s

Sounds dodgy....sure it wasn't crash for cash?

Sounds like it, doesn't it, or an attempt at

On the topic of iam, its only the cost that has put me off

I'd say that very reasonable for what you get :)

Considering how much £ can be spent on '' mods '' - I'd say it's a bargain :)

I might well sign up to that, having been over to their web site and downloaded a brochure

Good for you.

Membership may also reduce your insurance - it did mine :)

^ I was going to start driver training with Rospa, but never got round to it. Went to a few of their meetings but those are only optional. Might consider IAM instead, that's what my dad did and there's only one level instead of gold/silver/bronze that Rospa has. Also I think with Rospa you have to keep taking the test every few years to keep your certification (which is probably a good thing) but you don't have to do that with IAM.

There's a further level with IAM, if I've understood the brochure/web site correctly, the Masters level. Which you can apply to do after you've completed the other courses.

Correct - i.i.r.c.

It's like I always say - driving slowly/braking erratically can be MORE dangerous than speeding at a consistent speed.

It should be noted that progressive braking techniques are more effective than ''slamming on the brakes'' - which really should only be used in an emergency situation

Having at least one's stopping distance in between yourself & the vehicle in front of you often eliminates the need to ''slam on the brakes''

That's fine until the golf, Audi, bmw, etc etc driver fills the gap and you end up going backwards

Yes, they invariably do, saddo's that they are

T.I.D.L:

The silly woman in a corsa tailing gating me.. For one it's just plain dangerous, secondly she was in an old corsa, so there was no chance that lightning fast reactions would have helped her stop quick enough anyway, thirdly she was paying more attention to her windscreen wiper that was flopping about having dismounted from its holder, and fourthly, I dislike not being able to see the headlights of the car immediately behind me!

Yes that happens to me a lot, just because I leave a sensible gap they take it as an invitation to move into that gap. As long as their car fits they think they're safe.

Maybe she just wanted to see what a GOOD car looked like, close up :P

All you can do is back off & keep your space in front of you

Who says there has to be a gap? I've seen "those" drivers literally FORCE themselves between cars, causing the one behind to brake to increase the gap enough for their "look at me!" car to fit.

Yep . . . . these inconsiderate, incompetent, idiotic fools are everywhere

Not sure if it's a "things I don't like" as such, as it sort of doesn't affect me (other than feeling sorry for the family), but if any of you have heard about Adrian Lynch, a 20yr old who went missing In Jersey over a week ago now... I guess I don't like how easy it is for someone to disappear...

Jersey, covers a 9x5 mile portion of the Earth.. It is bigger than that when you factor in the hills and valleys, but we're not talking about a vast body of land. What also makes it more incredible is that the search is not even Jersey in its entirety, it's a miniscule portion of the island, perhaps that may be the problem, I guess time will tell. I just find it incredible especially as the island folk often say "crime is so low here, people wouldn't bother (breaking the law), where are you going to go to escape?" of course so far there is no evidence to suggest criminal activities but it's awfully strange!

(also Jersey does have crime...)..

Finally been through the cam footage and just as she brakes hard........the footage stopped for its next loop

Technophobe that I am also meant my loops don't overlap more are a few seconds apart   so the very next loop is a few seconds up the road where she brakes hard again for no reason, sorry dead boring video as it stands....still wanna see it?

I'd be interested to see nonetheless.
