wow in all fairness i would of pulled off into the grass verge just after that saftey barrier god knows what damage he would of done as he carried on.

I broke down on a bit of the M1 near Luton where the hard shoulder had been turned into a 4th lane. I managed to pull into one of those tiny laybys for Police cars etc. But that was not ideal for the RAC van stopping there and having to pull away whilst towing me as there was not much room. In hindsight I might have been able to roll to the next proper refuge layby but you have to make a split second decision at the moment the fault occurs

I am sure deaths will occur due to breakdowns where the hard shoulder has been done away with.

A dark rainy night where a car loses the power to move and also loses electrical power so no hazard lights etc.  I know that can happen on dual carriageways anyway, but the more miles of road like this (as they do away with hard shoulders) the more likely an accident will be
