I have a 1996 ford escort 18si and i have a 1997 16si i'm going to change the engine and gearbox from the 18 to the 16 (have two compleate cars) just wanted to know if there was any mods that i would need to do to make everything work i know i need ecu my old key chip and wireing loom plus sensers is there anything else i need?

Does the 16 gear box fit on my 18?

Also the 16i engine is for sale if anybody want's it it will come with everything you need as i have no use for it when i've changed it over as the old car is a rust heap and wouldn't sell it to anybody but the engine they can have works 100% perfect

thanks people

WRONG.

The longer gears of the diesel box on the petrol engine is a myth.

The box most prob wouldnt handle it. It is made to be doing 50 in second at 4000rpm. On the petrol engine, it will still be doing 50 at 4000rpm, but the engine will rev on to 6500 at which point the box could not take that sort of speed and explode.

Fom what i have heard and gathered it dhould fit just fine. Many of Ford's parts have been kept interchangable over the years on the Escort.

Let us know how you get on.
