Mk3 Prefacelift Sync 2 8" touchscreen upgrade, How to guide with pics!!!

The BCM is the main module. The IPC holds a copy of the BCM configuration. The car modules read the information from the BCM but if they cannot get the information from the BCM they will try the IPC.

You should really copy all that configuration to the IPC, but it won't cause any problems under normal circumstances if you don't.

The easiest place to take the MS can is from the heater module. If I remember rightly it's the blue plug.  Pin 18 grey & orange on the heater module goes to pin 16 on the sync module.  P

Thanks! If anyone has any questions I’m more than happy to help!  It took me 10 hours to do but that was with some figuring out along the way, I reckon if I was to do it again I could do it in ha

I noticed that the written instructions shown during the automatic parking are in English while before they were in Italian ... can I do something to put them back in Italian?

Where did you get the APIM from?

I don't have Sync 2, I have Sync 3. But there should be an option in the menu to select the language.

It might be a good idea to search for and download a manual for Sync 2 from Ford.

I got it from a kuga in Italy. The menu language is in Italian, but the automatic parking instructions are in English

I would like to take advantage for a question ... I also have a fiesta and on the front windshield there is a camera, but on sync 3 there is no corresponding entry. Can you tell me what it is for?

The front camera is nothing to do with Sync 3. That camera is used for features such as traffic sign recognition, auto high beam and lane change assist.

So you must have one or more of those systems on the car.

If you don't have any of those systems then make sure there is actually a camera inside the case. Many Ford cars were fitted with the case on the windscreen but did not have the camera installed.

yes I have lane change assistance ... Then I wanted to know how I can check for sync 2 system updates? If I go to the system information it gives me my original vin from my machine where I had sync 1 ... So if I go to the ford site and enter my vin it doesn't give me updates because it still recognizes sync 1. How should I do?

For updates, you need the VIN of the donor car.

and if it was demolished?

Doesn't matter. Ford do not record car's history, only their build.

ok i'm trying to call him

If you can't get the VIN, there are places on the web where you can download the software updates.

I don't have any to list as all my links are for Sync 3. But do a google search.

I found a site with updates for sync 2. These also have the Italian language and are they good for Italy? Which one should I download?

Sorry I have installed the gpsm module but I can't find the position. He doesn't even show me the compass on the on-board computer. How should I do? do you have to configure or activate something?

what can it be?

Unfortunately, I don't have any experience of Sync 2 or the GPSM module as I went from Sync 1 to Sync 3 and every other install I have helped out on has been Sync 3. Neither do I have any experience of the Kuga.

But here is a bit of information. Firstly, connect Forscan and see if the GPSM module comes up as a device. If it doesn't show in Forscan, then it is not connected correctly. There is no activation for it and nothing to change, but both Sync 2 and the GPSM communicate with each other over the MS-CAN bus. If the MS-CAN bus on either device is not functioning correctly then they will not communicate.

If I wanted to test the functioning of the gpsm module, how could I do? And if I wanted to try to invert the 2 wires connected to pins 16 and 17 of the Apim (having the doubt that I could have swapped them, but I don't think so) could I create some damage by inverting them? pins 16 and 17 of the Apim do not carry current right?

The best way to test the GPSM module is with Forscan. Plug in Forscan and then look at the list of modules. If the GPSM module shows up then you know it is connected correctly.

If it doesn't show up in Forscan, it is either connected incorrectly or is faulty.

ok I'll try to check. I'll let you know thanks again

Sorry Guys, I have been a little quiet for a few days but looks like you have been doing ok on your own.

I know this is working now in the most part but one thing I noticed on Daniele kuga II's post of his APIM on pge 45 I think it was, is there are only 4 blocks for the APIM. Mine has 8 blocks but that's because I uploaded an asbuilt from a 2016 sync 2 car.

With reference to the navigation try Steevo's advice of seeing if the GPSM module is listed in Forscan. You have to enable navigation in APIM settings and upload the navipatch file. I can provide details on how to do this but first you need to get the compass displayed in the top right of the screen.

Worst case scenario is you can always connect pins 16 and 17 from the APIM to the MS CAN network and use the GPSM module that is on the car.

Thank you. I can't get the compass ... I haven't loaded the data of a 2016 machine with sync 2, is this a problem? I put the photos of forscan. Let me know what you think. thank you

The GPSM module is not showing on Forscan. It is either connected incorrectly or it is faulty.

I tried to invert the 2 wires connected to the apim and at the beginning it didn't give more errors but after a while the same errors recurred. Unplugging it and plugging it back in doesn't change anything as if the machine didn't see the module ...

i found this. Can you explain to me what these 2 components are? do they both serve on sync 2?
