APIM Configurations

Ok, so this thread is intended to be a collaboration between those of us who are happy to tinker and to see what can be achieved.  Primarily this information relates to Sync 3, but some of it applies to Sync 2.  Please note that you require an ELM327 interface and Forscan with an extended licence to attempt any of this, and none of the contributors to this thread will be held responsible if you screw something up, though I'm sure there will be plenty of help available if you do.

People, I'm posting up here the plain text configuration of my personal Sync 3 APIM, along with the As-Built in hex format (as seen in Forscan). What I'm hoping is that with enough research (a lot of which has been done by people on the F150 forums), and with enough collaboration, we can cross reference differences between plain text and as-built configs, and basically datamine the APIM so that it will be fully customisable.

I intend to attach a spreadsheet with columns for each plain text option, the corresponding byte in the as-built, and possible values.

Firstly:

GOLDEN RULE:

ALWAYS DO A BACKUP OF YOUR SETTINGS BEFORE FIDDLING!!!

Accessing APIM Config:

Hold next track and eject for several seconds.  Car will perform speaker test, then diagnostics menu will appear.  APIM config is in here.  There is a lot of info, so feel free to post pictures instead of typing it out!

Ok, to get the ball rolling is the plain text config for my APIM.  This is typed out exactly as shown, including missing values and spelling errors:

I have changed the start up screen on my Sync3 and also have different colours for each tab. I tried a few other things as far as I remember but they didn’t work.

Change 7D0-04-01 XXXX XXX* XXXX.

The * should be a 1, change it to a 0.

EDIT:  That was according to the f150 doc.  Just checking my apim settings, this is a 1 for me and it is enabled...

But at the moment, several of us are having problems with the on screen controls changing the opposite side temp.  I think thats something to do with this line in the APIM config:

Vehicle Driver Location: Right Hand Drive (When user selects Driver HMI button, send passenger occupancy mode can signal)

If we can change the byte for this setting, I'm thinking it should change it over...

 

The other problem is that I am basing the settings on the findings of guys in the F150 forum. Cross referencing those with my APIM As Built doesn't seem to tally with some of the values.

Ultimately, I need as many APIM configs and as built sets as possible to compare!

Ok, going through my Apim config, matching up the bytes to the f150 doc, (linked to by luke in the preface sync 2 upgrade sticky). a lot of it matches up, but there are several values which don't and several bytes unaccounted for.

This is going to mean a lot of trial and error testing, and hopefully, nothing irrevocably bad happening to my apim!

I'm sat in the car and have just been doing a bit of fiddling and I've realised that some of my settings in the APIM config screen have changed and it appears to be the ones that were duplicates.  I've edited the first post to show what it is now anyway...

I'm still figuring out the values, but likely is a 1.  Change to 0.

@Stoney871, I messed up the first post by editing it with the updated APIM config.  Is there a way to recover it as it was before?

Right, I've made a start on decoding the APIM.  There is actually a lot of difference between (at least my) APIM and the settings defined on the f150 document.  Kudos should be initially to those guys for their efforts, but I am attempting to build on what they've done.

There is a link in the first post now to a read only Google Sheet.  I've only done 2 of the code blocks so far, but I hope to add more as we go!

were you able to define other values in the configuration of the APIM module?
Do you know which parameter is responsible for setting "Internal Gyro" and "GPS mount type"?
