I think I've had a reduction in renewal premium, like Tom mentioned, a couple of times over the years. Nowadays they all seem to be on this auto renewal lark so you have to ring them anyway to cancel it you've found cheaper cover elsewhere (which is usually the case). So I give the existing insurer the opportunity to re-examine their quote and generally end up with a better price to stay with them. It backfired on a mate of mine once. He rang without checking elsewhere first, confident he'd be able to find a better deal, and said he'd leave unless they beat his (fictional) alternative quote. They declined, so he cancelled, then found he couldn't get cover elsewhere for anywhere near the renewal quote!😀 Lesson learned!

I called mine to give them the option and it was basically a case of "tough luck", so I told them to cancel it then and I'll go somewhere that actually rewards no claims... Now I've got fully comprehensive cover (instead of TPFT) for the same price and next year hopefully it'll go down since I'll be over 25 then and have (touch wood) 3 years NCB.
Zico
@zain611 I'm sticking with my current Autobeam brake lights for now as they are bright enough at the moment. I had thought about getting the newer ones and donating the older ones to a friend who's got a Mk7 Fiesta Titanium. With regards to your dad and his Volvo, if he's not one for resting on the brakes when stopped then I'm sure there shouldn't be any trouble with the brightness. The one time I knowingly got a reaction as to how bright the brake lights were was when I was at a junction with a slight incline and had been holding on the brakes rather than handbrake. Normally you are able to get out after a short wait (even at peak times) but on this one occasion I had a longer wait and glanced in the rear view mirror to see the driver behind me holding his hand up to mask his eyes. The combo of the brake and indicator lights must have been a bit too much for him. @TomsFocus I just renewed my insurance (fully comp with Aviva) the other night and this is the first time it's gone up in a number of years. I often get in quotes in advance and over the years nobody has come close to my Aviva quotes/renewals so have stuck with them. This time round it went up about £45 but all of the other companies are still more expensive (Directline were further £40 for the same cover).

I remember that (just!). After 50 years or so no claims they should be paying me by now but It doesn't seem to work that way!😀

Last year when my renewal came through it was £250 more than what I was paying and that was with an extra years worth of NCB. All insurance companies these days put you on auto-renew by default. I declined their offer, searched around for new quotes and the cheapest came out at £30 lower than what I paid the year before and it was with the same company. They actually accepted me as a new customer even though I already had a policy with them which was expiring.
Stoney871
Due to changing cars recently I contacted my insurance company (Axa) to transfer the policy to my new car. They declined the transfer as they didn't insure my car (Mk4 ST).Set up a new policy with Lloyds and no quibbles at all, the premiums even reduced by £100.I can only assume thst Axa hasn't insured many new ST's or at least not enough to be able to adequately calculate the risk to them. The refund from Axa was more than the new policy so transferred with £50 in hand to fill the fuel tank. [emoji4]As an aside, why can't deslerships at least give you a full tank of fuel on collection?I think my dealership put in only just enough to switch the low fuel warning light off, tight sods.Sent from my SM-G965F using Tapatalk

When I bought my Diesel Focus from Arnold Shark last year, I’m pretty sure the fuel warning light was on, and I presume they do that as a rule because there’s a petrol station on the same roundabout as them.

What happened to the rest of your NCB? I didn't notice any drop at 25...in fact, it definitely went up that year. I had 8 years NCB by then though. I use a couple of different email addresses which seems to fool systems into thinking you're a new customer.😀
The Finance Guy
I just had to call my insurer for the new policy I got set up yesterday for my ST - when the docs came in it had on it that I had 13 years no claims....but I only have 7! Whoops. Cost extra over the year but they didn't charge me an admin fee which is nice. I was braced for a battle.

Lol, I keep doing it the other way...think I have 1 less than I actually do!! 🤦♂️ I've got 11 years this year! Not that it makes any difference now as most places don't offer any further discount past 9. Still don't know how I've got through 11 years without so much as a minor bump, I don't even consider myself a particularly 'good' driver! I just watch where I'm going and don't crash into stuff...

Stoney871
15 years NCB at the moment.Have had accidents but as they were in work vehicles they don't count.Worst one was sticking a BMW X3 through a hedgerow and getting it on it's roof on a country lane while I was an AR Officer.Wagon was 6 months old and I got a proper rollicking for writing it off. With me I'd set the spawn location to last location then just restart the game whenever it doesn't land on the car. You move faster in the casino when in first person. When I go on the wheel I count to 4 and roll at 4. I swipe the analogue stick from 9 to 5 o'clock briskly and managed to get it after a hour
zain611
Did another volvo headlight restoration on my dad's new car. Didn't come out as great as the volvo I did before. Fitted the autobeam performance indicators in in red.
Zico
@Stoney871 I was promised a full tank when I got my ST but forgot to check. Luckily I managed to drive the ~110 miles home and the fuel gauge was reading ~10 miles left so must have had roughly 1/4 tank or so. The dealership did send me £50 cheque a few days later to make up for the fact that they forgot to fill the tank though . @zain611 I thought immediately of you when I went past a car with clouded up head lights yesterday. You should get a business card made up and I could have got you some business .
dtulip8
Saw a brand new Defender on the M40 tonight, looked very cool! A far cry from the old one, one of which we had for a few months back in 2015.
