I do like getting the all clear from the doctor further to a cancer scare.  Still got lots of problems in my life but at least now I've (hopefully) got a lot of time to deal with them.

  • I do like finally finishing a model kit I first started 5 and a half years ago.  It's a very special model that i was supposed to finish by the time the aircraft took her final flights across the UK

Last time when I did it took less than an hour to get an email to say the results are up. I failed it then so have to wait and see.

I also got a conditional offer for that healthcare support worker job in my local hospital. Don't know if I'll take it as it likely will mean I have to drop the estate agent training I'm doing which looks good on my CV when I apply for more trainee mortgage advisor roles. Also would have to do a health and social course in that job which I'm not in the mood to do especially already doing another qualification

Took an hour to get the results? Now that is quick marking, do they have robots on the job?

I'm guessing it's an electronic test done online...

Hopefully you've got the results by now @zain611 ?

Hey you know when you are getting old when they start to bring you your pipe, slippers and newspaper via a pooch.

You know you're getting old when Google ads bombard you with adverts for SAGA! I'm only 55 FFS! 🙄😃

😂

Oh aye. Imagine my joy last march when I could finally join the over 50s Zumba.

It's 2 exams with 50 multiple choice questions each. Would expect it to be quick 😂. Pass is 35/50 (70%+) so hoping I got that for both.

Yeah got an email yesterday at 9:30 about it being available to view the results. Lol I'm scared to check it. I would say it felt better this time around compared to when I did it last.

Hopefully soon I'll check it

Got some good news and bad news for the exam I did. Bad news is I failed but good news is I only failed 1 exam and passed the other and that I only need to resit that failed exam not the passed one in that module 😁. Less to revise over again but another £150 gone from my wallet.

eh, you still need to pay the full £150 for sitting only one exam, I would think you should only need to pay half. Congrats brother, for passing the other.👏

Thanks man. Happy I only have to revise over half the info now only doing one exam.

It is starting to get a bit overwhelming for me though. Hope this career in mortgage advising is good and that it's not a mistake of me to leave my science career for this and find out that career was better. Thing is there isn't any trainee jobs coming out in the scientist career I originally wanted to get into. Also with the economy going downhill to the point it was 300 years ago I would worry that are people buying houses the same before covid and lockdown.

You are very welcome.

I know it is easy to say, but try not to let things overwhelm you, if you are interested in the mortgage advising role, just go with it. I wouldn’t dwell on the idea that there may not be as many house buyers out there now, as long as there is a need for housing, a pandemic will not affect that as much as lets say a business that isn’t completely essential like fashion accessories.

You could always keep an eye out for the science side of things if you decide the mortgage roles are getting boring, or you just feel it isn’t for you, or for whatever other reason. I would expect a paid job whatever it was would be a good thing to have.

A lot of what you hear about in news and papers about the economy is scare mongery, all money is, is a number on a screen, even when it is said “things are bad”, the general rule of thumb is we are still physically in the same state as we were, when it was good. At most there may be a slight reduction in lending but not enough to destroy any certain area of the economy, I very much doubt the government would allow it to slide like that.

I think whichever way you choose to go, will end up being a longer term role than you once thought.

From what I could see people are buying properties especially buy to let with the current stamp duty relieve though that's ending soon. I spoke to one mortgage advisor who told me there's always a demand for properties so business for advisors. I'm surprised also he told me some of his colleagues who started out this career with him in London were earning triple in their third year compared to their first. All depends on the brokerage and if it's successful.

The science career is okay but I'm more looking at the mortgage career as it's a straight career path plus hopefully be earning a good income near the beginning to start sorting myself out.

Do like getting some replacement switchback fog lights from autobeam. The old silver one went faulty and autobeam easily sent a replacement which is updated. On the left side the bulb was touching the AC pump so think the heat got to it. The new one is slightly shorter and not touching so hopefully will last longer

I do NOT like getting ripped off by an Ebay seller called, 'DEGERTAP' where I bought a new kitchen mixer tap (complete with 5 year warranty LOL LOL), which went faulty after 8 weeks. Once they'd established it was faulty, they just stopped answering my messages, thievin' b*stards! Suppose my own fault, but I've bought loads of stuff from Chinese sellers before and never had an issue, even if gone faulty always got refund/replacement.

Yep, theivin' gits name again is 'degertap' - stay away 🤣 There, feel better now despite £60 down the drain LOL

Stephen this forum post is things I do like, but if these guys are offering a five year warranty surely they should send you a replacement. Have you spoken to ebay about it? I am sure that paypal has a longer refund period too so you could also contact them to get a refund for the transaction. You have to make a refund request within 180 days of purchase If you buy an item with your credit or debit card connected to the PayPal account through ebay.

Aawww, bless your cotton socks. PayPal will only entertain a refund request if item hasn't been shipped/received (not faulty). Ebay are only interested in the commission they get on the sale, and the commission they get on PayPal payment (as they own it!). Could care less about any misleading warranty offer on listing. Hard to negotiate with a rogue seller when they simply ignore your messages!

2 minutes ago, FiestaForever said:

Well usually you would be covered by section 75 of the consumer rights act, where an item has to be fit for usage but unfortunately that is with credit card payments directly to the trader, not hrough paypal. Although it wouldn’t hurt trying with paypal.

That only accounts for purchases in excess of £100, and as you say, direct to trader, not via PayPal. PayPal won't get involved in a dispute like this.

3 minutes ago, FiestaForever said:

You can also speak to the financial ombudsman service and see if they can do something for you. If the trader is advertising that they give a five year warranty/guarantee and they are not honouring it then it is probable the ombudsman will either step in or get trading standards involved.

Ebay counts themselves as a 'platform' for 3rd party sellers, hence UK legislation has no binding control over sellers registered in China.

I have been in retail for over 4 decades, and can quote you portions of the 2015 Consumer Legislaltion off by heart! LOL It was my own risk buying this item, and the risk backfired.

Unfortunately for me we needed a 'gold' tap, something that the UK doesn't really stock. B&Q had over 80 taps on display, do you know how many gold ones? I'll save you the trouble - none! Screwfix don't stock them, and UK online plumbing shops don't either. They just all stock standard chrome. It would be like you having a black car and getting a replacement front wing from a breaker in silver. It would 'do' but would just look strange!

I accept my money is gone, but I'm back to where I started. Wanting a gold coloured mixer tap with nowhere to go and see it before I buy!

Ebay don't own Paypal.

They used to but they were forced to spin it off.

That's why they are now working on their own payment platform (again, as that's what Paypal was in the first place).

Gold taps?  I'm now imagining marble flooring, a granite work top and solid oak doors...

Maybe buy a chrome one and some Gold Hammerite?

It's a 30 year old kitchen LOL It was the fashion then... 🤣 You think I'm made of money to buy a new kitchen just so chrome taps would look OK?? 😅

I've got a horrible creamy white one courtesy of early 2000s 'style'.

Hey! Don't dis the gold taps! 😆

Don't worry, the bathroom was ripped out pretty soon after we moved in.

Mind you, I could have sold the tap for 50 quid if I had known that folk were still wanting them! 😃

You see, here's the thing. Last year I needed to get new taps for both bathrooms, same issue, wanted 'gold', went to B&Q, there was none. However on the way out I saw a 'sale' dump bin and had a rummage. I found two pristine boxed quality 'gold' taps reduced from £80 to £10 each!! So it pays to be very unfashionable LOL So bless all you 'chrome' guys for walking past and leaving these!

Don't think I've ever seen a cistern with the flush lever on the side before!

Must make foot flushing much easier though!

Finally got to use my switch back fogs in anger before Christmas. I hadn't realised they have three settings but the full yellow option was definitely the best for the fog vs the blue white and yellow white options.

I tested mine in the dark yesterday when I was waiting in the Asda car park for mum.

Nice and bright and look be that there's three colours in one bulb

Switching them on them off within 5 seconds (if I remember correctly) switches between the LED colours. I keep forgetting the order but think it's white/blue then yellow then white/yellow.

I was following a Mini One driver earlier this evening that had their rear fog light on (absolutely no reason for it, clear evening weather) and tried to get their attention by cycling through my front fogs when they were at the roundabout. Needless to say they didn't have a clue and carried on there merry blinding way! :wallbash:
