Caliper Grease

Hey guys

Going to give my front brakes a shake up and clean up, I see b&q have Silicon grease in yhe plumbing department, would this be ok to use on the caliper slides as new calipers are supplied with a smal amount of silicon grease for this purpose.

Your better off using copper grease from somewhere like Halfords or another parts shop.

Silicone grease where the rods glide in rubber - and copper/aluminum grease where there is metal to metal.

copper grease for the backs of the pads and where the pads slide. red rubber grease for the caliper pins

Would the silicon grease from B&Q be ok in an "emergency"

it would mean you having to clean it off later to put the correct stuff on. then if there is any left on, not sure how the two would react together.

if you havent started it id wait till the right stuff arrives.

Thanks for the link - I have always used silicone grease on the pins, works fine. Never tried this red stuff - but it looks interesting, ordered a little tin - will try this when I service the brakes before the winter :)

its supposed to be for the pins and the piston if you decide to remove them too.

there are seal kits available to if you want to go the whole hog. bigg red are a popular choice for suppling them.

saying that i have a set of front cailpers stripped and painted in the garage waiting to be rebuilt, been waiting 18 months so far

Thanks for the links. I replaced the rear calipers with new ones and serviced the front calipers 1,5 years ago. I belive they are ok for now, but will check them before winter and service them if needed. The salt on the roads here in the winter are hard on the brakes - especially the rear.
