The Dark Knight
My ST-2 will be left on our driveway when we go for a family holiday to Scotland for 1 week in my dad's Audi. Obviously I won't reveal where I live or when I'm going just in case Mr C.Riminal reads this and thinks "AHA! I will duly steal it!" Then, later this year, I am off to USA for 2 weeks and my mum and day are taking us to Heathrow. They will go on holiday in the UK for 1 week once we have lifted off, so the ST will be sat on the drive again for a week. We have a burglar alarm at the house, good neighbours but no gates. We live on a fairly busy main road too. The ST is bound to be a prime choice for scumbags and they will happily smash their way through the house looking for the keys. Options I've thought of for your consideration please: 1: Leave the car at work (unlikely that management will agree to this) 2: Hide the keys somewhere the crim can't possibly find them 3: Leave the keys at work, locked in my drawer so the crim cannot get the keys at all 4: Hide the keys and fit a disklock to the steering wheel or something similar Someone I know had their BMW 3 series stolen off the drive recently after crims smashed their way through the house and took the keys. Opinions and/or alternative suggestions please (I can't find anyone suitable to leave the car with)

MattDRX
Better idea, set the my key to 1mph max speed limit. Disconnect battery also to cost them time. Remove all light bulbs so it can't be driven away successfully at night. Sent from my SM-N9005 using Ford OC mobile app
matt1981
Take it to Scotland with you, I imagine there would be some good roads on the way! I'd invest in a good steering lock and take both keys with you. Maybe a car cover would be a benefit too I'm not sure.

Opinions and/or alternative suggestions please (I can't find anyone suitable to leave the car with) You could get a security monitoring system or webcam that could cuver the driveway/ car that you could access online - it could be accessed from a smartphone or an internet pc anywhere in the world - this would give you peace of mind as you could keep an eye on the car You could get a hidden safe (like a wall safe or floor safe) - if you just hide the keys in the house they may be found - you cant be sure they will be 100% safe at work either, you could take them with you You could take steps to make it look like someone is home - leave the curtains open but leave a light on, get dusk/ dawn light(s) or timed lights, you can get things like tv simulators etc or even control the household items over the net You colud not tell anyone you are going away or how long for and drive away discreetly - loose lips sink ships

Nighthawk
Any chance a neighbour would park blocking your driveway whenever they can? Perhaps inform the local police/PCSO to keep an eye out, I know no high hopes on this but better than nothing and could mean less work for them than if it did get nicked. Just anything you can do that will discourage them because the risk is high. Sent from my HUAWEI Ascend P2 using Ford OC mobile app
The Dark Knight
Thanks for the swift responses. I am not technically minded at all so I don't want to do too much faffing around. Can you seriously set mykey that low?! Be damn good if so. If the car stays on the drive then to avoid it being towed away, I will park it rather close to the brick wall over to one side of the drive with the front of the car facing the wall. (Wall is parallel to the drive entrance). We do have timers for the lights but not sure I can justify any serious outlay for CCTV etc cos of saving for 2 holidays. Stoney871
Steering wheel/gearstick locks, locking drive barrier, wheel clamp, cameras (whether real or dummy), security lights, randomised indoor lights as criminals will stand and time lights to see if they come on at predictable times. Don't remove the battery as this will disable your alarm, instead fit a battery terminal circuit breaker that allows power to flow but will trip if someone tries to start the car. Leave the keys with someone you trust or lock in a concealed safe, wall key safes are fine if you're at home but not good if nobody is home to hear them being ripped open. Another option is short term rental of a garage or some storage facilities have garage type lock-ups for reasonable rates. I am lucky that I can leave my car in the secure garage/compound at my station, even though my car is nothing fancy it puts my mind at rest that it won't get smashed up while away. FiestaZpower
1/ Give a set of keys to mum & dad to take with them and take your keys with you Then to make them think it's not worth the effort to steal : 2/ Remove ST badge (you can easily put it back on or buy a new one) 3/ Put some Focus Hubs on it, or Escort wheels even better ...if you can't get wheels or hubcaps, making some 17" cardboard or plastic discs and putting them on with some parcel string should hold them on fine 4/ Pop black plastic bags over your Recaros . 5/ Mc Ds burger boxes on the dash and screwed up news papers in the footwells 6/ There some pretty tacky stick on Graphics on eBay .... Powered by fairy dust ect .... Tribal tattoo type stickers ...or A big Batman sticker on the back window lol (you are the dark knight after all! :) ) Don't worry though - it will be fine .... Everyone worries when they go away - I'm kind of glad my car is 4 years old these days but ....It's like the song that guy from America said: I got 99 problems but 92 of them are made up scenarios in my head :) LoL Enjoy your holidays !!!!! ;)

The Dark Knight
Don't worry about it, or sell the car if it makes you that Paranoid. It's not about paranoia and I'm certainly not going to be panicking while away on holiday. When these thefts happen for real though and you know the ST is a car the crims would like to steal, it's useful to get some security tips without going too mad obviously. DarrylW91
I'd happily take care of it for you ;) Do you have any family or friends who will let you park it on their driveway for a while? At least then it's at a house where people are coming and going and it's less likely to be targeted.
kingy94
Get a wheel clamp? jeebowhite
HTo be honest most of what's been said above would do the job, but find somewhere public to park it if you can't leave it with a friend or relative, alternatively can you not leave it in the works car park? If you don't mind spending a few quid call up some storage folks, then cover it in a storage yard? One thing you could do is called the cops, tell them it's nicked and get someone to call saying there's am abandoned car and two yobs ran away from it, then they will take care of it for you lol Otherwise disconnect battery, remove relays and make it less attractive from the outside Sent from my MY SAGA C2 using Ford OC mobile app
E5GDM
I wouldn't remove the battery & make the alarm non operative, & it could also affect the insurance if it then ironically got stolen.

martyntdci
since when has a alarm stopped thieves? these steering wheel/handbrake locks are a waste of time and money also dont work they just delay..., unless they are like this and these can be removed but with loads more fiddling ... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Disklok-Silver-Steering-Wheel-Lock-Medium-Size-/261455627609?pt=UK_Car_Accessories_Safety_Security&hash=item3cdff84559 if somebody has noticed ur car already, and noticed that you have done something different to it then it would be odd to them.... if you hide your keys, would you want somebody ransacking your house trying to find them (i wouldn't) to be fair i am same minded myself, but if somebody wants something so badly then they will take it, no matter the outcome....
