This year has completely pushed my plan for any car change till later in the year rather than mid and has also ruled out a few cars. Like an RS. Will start looking at quotes for an ST and compare with a 2.5d

I meant my insurance renewal this year. 2017. I normally plan my year every 6 months or quarterly to achieve what I want to do. I had car change during the first 6 months but now I have had to push it towards the later 6 months.

I don't like waking up with cramp in both sets of quads and then as I go stretch them to relieve it, getting cramp in my abs:sad:  This will be a consequence of not checking I had sufficient potassium, magnesium and sodium in yesterday's food and also not drinking that second litre of water at bed time.

Ken is probably a meticulous planner with daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, 5-yearly and 10-yearly goals to achieve lists.  He probably knows exactly what he intends doing years in advance of everyone else.  One of my business partners is the same.

Not that far am afraid I will go crazy. Started it last year and I achieved a lot lost 5 stones in weight, got married. Upskilled and got a better job. I find it helps certain goals. Even if it is 2 or 3. Your focused and not just winging it.

Contrary their advertising Saga largely rips off it's customer base, who are falsely led into believing they cater with heavy discounting for the older driver. They are always one of the more expensive insurers, along with RIAS who also target the same market.  My late Dad was one of those who was paying £350 more than he needed to with a Saga policy in the late noneties

I found at 25 the drop wasn't noticeable, 30 and then 35 had quite significant drops and then it remains largely static.

However, once you hit 80 your premium increases faster than it went down from 17 to 25.  At 90, you will be paying more than a comparable recently qualified 17 year old.  From observing my mate's Stepdad, should you get to 92 and find yourself with 7 claims against you in one year; two for hitting the same neighbour's car whilst parking, a month apart: your annual premium will be around the £6000 mark.

My Great Aunt was with Saga for years, I couldn't believe how much she was paying in her 70s with max NCB.

If he's managing to get 7 claims in one year, I'd say the premium hike is probably the least of his worries!  Probably time to give up by then.

The family conspired with the help of their mechanic to get him to stop driving, as he couldn't see why he should.

When his car went for it's MOT, the mechanic told him it had failed on 27 points and was beyond economic repair, and they'd get him another car, later.  Which they purposely didn't and after a while he forgot they hadn't.

They did get him one of those mobility scooters, which they then regretted, almost as much, as he was using it not to go to the local shops but to embark on lengthy drives, on the road, like it was a car.   Not only snarling up the traffic flow, or getting stuck on multi-laned roundabouts, his battery would often discharge miles away and would then need to be recovered.

The final solution was to change the battery for one that had such a low capacity he could only do a mile a day to get his paper and get back

I don't like my kettle's thermostat seems to have failed.  It will no longer switch itself off,    It's only 19 months old too, which doesn't seem very long for a kettle to fail

About half an hour ago, I put kettle on, went to loo, changed my mind about a further cup of coffee and returned to the office.  I noticed the windows up here were steaming up, so I went to investigate, the kettle was still on:ohmy: boiling away, vaporising it's contents into steam; there was less than a tablespoon left at the bottom.

Brandy has had an accidental mild sauna in the kitchen:laugh:

Kettle’s in my home seem to last just over the guarantee period and IV lost the receipts for them

I still have the receipt but the warranty was only a 12 month standard one.

Although on a brighter note, they've dropped a £5 in price from 19 months ago.

Having looked up it's predecessor's purchase date, that only lasted 23 months.

In contrast, an inherited kettle from the early 1970's, admittedly a bog standard one, not a rapid boiler, lasted for over 30 years until it's plastic body cracked.

They don't make things like they use to

I didn't like the alarm clock going off this morning signalling a return to work after 3 days off! Still, double time and a day back made it a bit better.

That happened to one of our kettles years ago.  The current Bosch "Village" TWK7603GB is still working well after two years of use, so it is now out of warranty.  Lets see how much longer it lasts...

I've decided that when it "dies", I'm going to buy a 1980s/1990s kettle, one that will last much longer than a modern model and will probably be cheaper to buy.

Older electrical devices are more power hungry and usually made from materials that aren't allowed any more.
New devices are more economical and safer to use.
Fair enough they do pack up quicker but are reasonably inexpensive to replace and easier to recycle.

Safer?  With the amount of new appliances you see on the news that burst into flames, I'll pass on that thank you!  Give me my old reliable appliances any day.  So long as they are properly maintained and any worn parts/damaged cables replaced, there is no reason they can't be as safe as or safer than new models.

I don't like being stuck behind a VW Passat with his rear fog lights on, and not a hint of fog anywhere, all the way across the conurbation.  Even Brandy turned round and faced the seat back after half an hour to get out of the high intensity red glow blaring through the windscreen:sad:

As above. Last year the floor standing gas central heating boiler got condemned. Yup condemned after 42 years service. Oh I forgot to mention why it got condemned. Because of a small hole in the flue caused by melted plastic some years back being removed clumsily. The boiler itself worked perfectly. OK it was inefficient coz it's replacement combi boiler was half the price in gas bills. Mind you I got an effing good price at the scrap merchant.

I haven't had that for a while, but the last time was with an old Nissan Micra from what I can remember.  Tonight on the drive home from work I was blinded by (and I'm not exaggerating) every third vehicle that went past having its high beams on.  I tried ignoring it - didn't work.  Tried giving them a taste of their own medicine - also didn't work.  By the time I got home I had a migraine-like aura from all the bright lights.

I don't like having to go back to work tomorrow after 2 weeks off

I don't like finding out that Campino sweets have been discontinued in the UK...  Used to have them when I was a child, and felt like buying a bag again as they were very good hard boiled sweets, perfect for car journeys etc...  But alas, it is not to be, unless I want to spend over £41 on 2 boxes (25 packs, imported from Canada) from eBay!!

What about the American Candy shop in the Eastgate? Might be worth a try?

I checked Tesco online and they don't have them, but they could be in-store only.  I'll have to see if Tesco Elgin has a foreign aisle, as I can't say I've ever seen it before.  If not, I'm sure the one in Inverness retail park will.

Thanks Kevin!

My local Tesco has a number of foreign aisles, Polish, Russian, American, east asian (Indian sub-continent), west asian (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, caribbean, middle eastern/ north African and a general African.  We don't seem to have an Australian nor a South American aisle yet   Which would thwart anyone local wanting to make a Roselle cake or Imbu cheesecake

They do have an Irish section which makes my Belfast born wife laugh.
She reckons that most of the stuff they stock at premium price is considered as cheap crap over there.

Thats due to a lack of demand as  no Australian in their right mind would emigrate here!
