My Mrs is the same. No doubt she'll be hiding under the stairs this afternoon as usual!😀

Poor Mrs B. It's a genuine fear or phobia for a lot of people.
If I had stairs to hide under I'd probably do that but I live upstairs on the 1st floor.
When I was little and it was stormy, my mum had me on one side of the sofa and the dog on the other (a large labrador-collie cross) because we were both absolutely petrified of it.

Yes, I do sympathise. I hadn't realised how bad these things were for some people until we met (30 years ago now). I was very taken aback at first as Mrs B is normally a very  confident person (she'll do a presentation to 100 people, no bother), but her fear of thunder and lightning does, fortunately,  seem to have lessened a little over the years.

Hope the storms today are not too bad, for both your sakes.

Washed the car again yesterday with my new bottle of quick detailer, wake up this morning and it’s covered in bird crap and that godforsaken Saharan rain dust stuff 🤬!

What detailer did you use?

I like thunderstorms, I even use a thunderstorm ambient sound on my Amazon Echo to help me fall asleep leading into day shifts.
When I lived in America there were some epic storms with lightning going sideways across the sky.
Even had a bolt hit the ground 20 metres from me that made a dry patch on a wet driveway and threw up a steam cloud.
My work dogs aren't fussed by them at all but a collie I used to have hated any loud noises and would head for the nearest doorway if caught out in a storm while on a walk.

Yeah, I always found them fascinating, even as a child. Not very helpful when living with someone with a phobia, though!😀

Oh, it's Saharan dust again, I thought it was pollen! Was pleasantly surprised that it didn't seem to be triggering my hayfever...

Not that it matters now, as I drove through a random torrential downpour at 70 and now have an entire farms worth of dirt splattered up the rear bumper and bootlid. From the front or sides the car still looks reasonably clean though lol.

Me too...  I mean, I'm scared of pretty much everything else in the world but thunder doesn't bother me at all.  I like watching the lightening as well, I lived in a bungalow for many years so didn't see much of it...now I'm upstairs I get a really good view!  :D. I find rain on the roof/windows soothing at night when trying to sleep...much nicer than silence with only the noise of my own thoughts. 😮

There's something about lightning and rain hitting the window being soothing whilst in bed. I think with me its that feeling your in a warm place sheltered whilst just on the other side of the window it's cold, dark, wet and rainy.

Yep - same here. Will be rinsed-off by the rain tonight though...

I will second that

I also like to think thieves and axe wielding maniacs will stay home instead of going out in the rain...  Not sure how true that is though...

I don't like going to the garage to put the recycling out and finding a dead thrush on the floor and bird ***** all over the Lotus

I guess I'll be testing the washability of the indoor cover then...

I used the Koch stuff you recommended me, very good too but it looks like i never used it now!

I do like a good thunderstorm as well, although I do appreciate that not everyone does. We got a good one in Cyprus last week complete with good cracks of horizontal lightning 😎

Best detailing spray when cleaning on a warm day where its easy to get water spots 👍. Always use it when cleaning the car. Today noticed also after the rain water had dried it left imprints of yellow dust 😢

Going on a rant here with this post; I've been wanting to post it all evening but when typing it; I became more Victor Meldew as the text went on 😖

On what is supposed to be a joyful experience

A few weeks ago we planned on renovating the girls (two daughters) bedroom to maximise space and get the space working for them with a desk for homework and chillout space etc.

Last Thursday I ordered a high sleeper bunk bed which gives more height to the lower bunk allowing the space to be used for sitting aswell as sleep.

I ordered the bed early because the last time I ordered a mid-sleeper from the manufacturer supplier for our sons room (Generic Photo)

It took three weeks to arrive And I need it to be ready for as soon after the new floor goes in, because the old beds are being scrapped.

Then Last Saturday we measured up the kids bedroom floor and went to a very reputable local home interior store which is known for quality as I like to do things right first time and make them last,

So we ordered a replacement semi solid oak floor with noise reducing foil underlay which I paid for in full on Saturday including the fitting; however as it was the weekend the couldn't schedule fitting until the contacted there "installation guy" for want of a better term to call him.

Anyways; they said they would phone this week with a schedule date;

So we went home Saturday and took everything out of the bedroom except existing beds;

20190419_122642.thumb.jpg.3818488fad80c9f2d19ec86cfcb34fe1.jpg

then lifted the old floor followed by ***** down the floorboards sealing around with expanding foam and giving the room another coat of paint.

By clearing out there room; it's made all other bedrooms considerably smaller as there room contents is spread throughout in preparation for the new floor.

the floor fitter phoned today; to say the earliest fitting date is Wednesday 15th May 😲 have to live like this confined space for three weeks 🤮

Then soon after that phone call; The bunk beds arrived; delivered by the shop themselves whom were prepared to assemble them for us; with only two issues preventing there plan😂

The first issue was the new floor hasn't been fitted yet; so they cant build it

And the second issue was themselves; as they forgot to bring the lats which span underneath the mattress's 🤮

They were very apologetic and promised to have them shipped to us via DHL before the weekend, I said before may 15th is fine 😂

To add to the confined space within the home pending the new floor; last Tuesday I received a brochure in the door from a liquidation furniture sale; and I happened to be looking to purchase two new mattresses for the kids new bed,

They had been discount from €259 each to a liquidation sale price of €129 each then a spring sale of €5 off every €50 spent in store

So I managed to get two mattresses supposed to total €518 for a new liquidation price of €258 then minus the one week only spring sale I paid €233 for both mattresses.

The only issue now; is the delay on the fitting of the floor which has resulted in me being restricted in all other bedrooms due to furniture from that room aswell as the downstairs hallway now being congested with two new mattresses and a bunk bed 🤯 which none of it can go anywhere until the floor is fitted.

20190424_233713.thumb.jpg.996584212e2c7f4658bb9930eb66d229.jpg

Then I can also fit the new built in wardrobe which thank lord I hadn't yet ordered from IKEA and I wont until the floor is finally in otherwise I'll have to camp outside 😅

I always thought the difficult part in home improvements was earning the money to fund the desired progress; the new house building boom is now impacting on the renovating of my excitingly built home as that's the reason the fitter cant get to me for three weeks there fitting out a new estate.

Rant over; feel a little better 😅

Nope, in my experience it's always finding someone who will do the work...

Just fit the floor yourself Lenny, you're more than capable! You've made it a lot easier already removing the skirting.

@Lenny I feel your pain mate, we're now in the fortunate position where we have more bedrooms than bodies, but in the past we've had to do the 'bedroom shuffle' (not that one) and it really is a bit of a pain.

Keep telling yourself, it'll all be worth it in the end 😉

A tube of Canesten should clear that right up. 😉  Do you know how it got into the garage?

Do they ever have good deals on that stuff?  I've still never bought any as it's so expensive lol!  Just waxed over the watermarks this time...

Last QD I bought was Sonax Xtreme BSD, it was cheap, but I can't say I'm all that impressed with it.  It has the consistency of snot rather than a nice fine spray, which makes applying it evenly very difficult!  I seem to end up with more marks on the car after using it than before.  Have also got lots of little black specs between the spokes of rear alloys (only the rears which is odd!), they were powdercoated less than a year ago and I've used wheel sealant on them a couple of times so a bit surprised it's stuck, I never had this on the Focus alloys.  Can only assume it's fallout from cheap rear brake pads maybe.  Alloy cleaner didn't even touch it so I'll need some fallout remover to get it off.

So, yesterday I went to cut Nan's grass and the lawnmower broke...  It's a hover mower, it started rattling and vibrating way more than usual and then just stopped hovering, cutting holes in the lawn and I could smell the motor burning so obviously stopped and had a look.

The hover fan had cut into the mower housing above it slightly.  But the only issue I could find was a broken spacer.  The spacers have little alignment pegs on them which had snapped off, allowing the blade to sit off centre causing the vibration.  BUT I can't understand why that would allow the fan to cut into the housing above it, stop it hovering and cause the motor to start overheating.  The fan is physically locked to it's hub and doesn't have enough movement in it to hit the housing.  The hub is still fixed tightly and the drivebelt is absolutely fine.  I've literally been going over this in my head all night and not come up with a suitable answer!

I suppose when there busy there good at what they do too; and I'm hoping to get a good job done on it as I need the flow of the skirting lowered to go under the radiator as the pipes now exit from the wall,

I need them to chop around an inch off the bottom of the skirt section which goes under the radiator maybe do s 45° degree angle downwards to a lower level of skirt \_______/ like that under radiator to retain the top edge of the skirt,

I thought by going to the more expensive place would be less of a wait but waiting is what I'll have to do for a job done right.

Thanks for the confidence mate but I'm a bit OCD and a perfectionist, I'd always see faults in my work; unless I feel I can do it without error; I stay well clear and I dont have a mitre saw although I could have bought an Aldi one using the €233.47 floor & skirting fitting cost 😅

All I can say is Spectacular performance to the death,

Argos have good deals on mowers; I was looking at them a few weeks ago when my Honda back fired and emitted white smoke, but thankfully mine was just a spark plug.
