Things I Don't Like

Featured Replies

Another don't like...finally received the mirror cover...which was broken in transit because it had only been placed in a sandwich bag...no bubble wrap or paper to cushion it at all! 😮

Messaged the seller immediately asking for a replacement (with some packaging this time!) and just got a reply clearly created in Google Translate saying they'll send me a refund...  I don't want a refund, I can't glue a tenner over the mirror, I just want the item I bought over a week ago in one piece!  Anyway, the refund has come through this morning so I guess I've got to buy one from somewhere else now... 😒

They also had the cheek to ask not to leave them negative or neutral feedback because they're 'trying their best to rectify'...surely the whole point of feedback is so buyers know that you can't be bothered to package items or replace them when they inevitably break in the post.  😮  I should add, it's not even a new seller, they've got over 4000 feedback already!

Aaaand breathe...

So, today in "how the hell do you have a licence!?"...4 near misses in the space of 5 minutes, beeped 3 times by other drivers, no clutch control and spent most of the time on the wrong side of the road...  How do you even manage to drive that badly!?  It must take serious effort surely!! 😮   I thought maybe it was stolen but who's going to steal an i30!?  It's all legal anyway.  Possibly drunk but at 5pm?  No idea...  Anyway, enjoy this montage of the worst parts of the 5 minutes that I had the misfortune to follow them...

@TomsFocus probably a drunk/stoned driver or a young teen with either a new licence trying to show off or possibly TWOCced by some kids for a joyride.
Then again, it could be a foreign driver not used to RHD cars and driving on the left.

I don't like the battered white van that tried to force itself in front of me on the main ring road roundabout this morning. The bell end completely ignored the clear road markings, signs and massively hatched area separating the traffic before the roundabout itself, then decided it was a good idea to bully his way across the lines on the roundabout and continue to ignore my horn before finally conceding and stopping in front a brick/cobbled wall with a raised footway.

This little show of driving skill got better a bit further down the road at the next clearly marked road junction. Rather than wait in line to go ahead at the traffic signal junction, he moved into right lane that is for traffic turning right onto the A2 trunk road and then forced his way back into the left lane to go straight on.

A few miles further up the road, he then just stopped in a layby so who knows what the fecking rush was for!?!?

Oh, and I missed a small bit where some plonker decided it was a good time to open his door right in front of me without looking. This happened a little under a minute from white van man at the roundabout 🤦‍♂️!

I don't like the MOT history of the VW van.

I didn't get a good look at the driver, but there was only one person in the car (unless the rest were hiding in the boot/footwells lol) and looked to be middle aged, certainly wasn't the 16 year old or 96 year old that I was expecting! 😮  LHD driver is possible but with that lack of clutch control and apparently not even seeing the cars they should be giving way to (especially the SMax on a 60 limit road!) I just don't buy it.  I reckon they've got to have been drunk or stoned as you say...

That is definitely an impressive failure list! 😮  Being an old white van with super high mileage and no driver ability it's likely to be part of a certain 'community' though...

@TomsFocus at least you drive better than them. When they did those maneuvers and turns and see you do them I thought that's my boy Tom 🤣. Only thing I could think is inexperience, not from this country or even might be a new car to the driver in which they are getting used to it.

@Zico I really hate drivers like that who purposely drive badly. It really gets on my nerves when people go in the left or right lane to turn off but use it to skip a few cars and cut into the lane which goes straight. Sometimes I actually take a detour to avoid junctions with those lanes as I don't want to see some idiot do it. I'm surprised on the mileage of the car but that may also reflect on the driver. Probably got it for pennies so has no respect on how he drives it. I watch out for van drivers including delivery vans who like to go through red rights.

About a year and a half ago I was going down this industrial estate as there was a McDonald's there in the night. When coming back there was a medium sized roundabout coming up. This van driver came up from behind in the right lane and quickly cut in front in my lane with me close behind. The roundabout came up, he turned off at a petrol station and my intentions were to go straight across but because he was right in front of me because he cutted in I couldn't see further ahead so ended up mounting the kurb, heard stones rattle and pulled over. Luckily left a little scrape on the bumper under and I think the oil sump got scraped also but nothing serious.

It just showed me how dangerous driving can harm other people and also I learnt to were my glasses in night driving.

I mean, I'd struggle to drive much worse than them...

Thanks though, I do take pride in driving smoothly and courteously...it's safer and much less stressful for everyone, as well as more MPG.   I just wish I received the same courtesy & consideration in return.

With me I like to be a friendly driver so indicate most of the time (even if it might be pointless like one lane splitting into two at a junction) flash my hazards to say thank you etc. Just yesterday I was going past a long bus stop so had to go in the right lane, there's a roundabout coming up however I want to go straight across and you have to be only in the left lane. One of the buses on the left moved off and a car went behind him. I had two choices, put my foot down to overtake the bus before or on the roundabout to get in the left lane (as they were moving slow) or match their speed and indicate until the car behind gives space to let me in. Chose the second option. Did flash my hazards at the car behind me even though I don't know if he purposely gave me space to go in 😂

Not long to doing my headlights now. At a closer look there's little small bits of haze even on the bottom half of the headlights which look to be clear so probably will use 1000-2000-3000 grit sandpaper for the whole thing. Just nervous really.

Another option for the roundabout, if you ever find yourself stuck in the right lane and want to go left or straight on, just go round the roundabout until you reach the desired exit 😉

@TomsFocus and others need some guidance. Used 1000 grit on the headlights. Would this be enough to move to 2000 or 3000

It's seriously Lenny but you did make me chuckle 😂. Hopefully it'll be clear when I've done the wetsanding and polishing.

I think I had an accident 🤣. It definitely is clear coat 😉

@zain611 Give it a wipe over with a damp cloth and see if there's still any deep scratches in it.  If not then move onto the fine grit stuff.  I'd probably skip the 2000 and move straight to the 3.

Should I sand the bottom half more? This is damp

Visited a castle today...  Was bought a years Historical Membership as a gift earlier in the year.  With not being able to travel far due to my health issues it's a waste of money though.  There's literally only 2  or 3 places I can get to that are part of it.  Hate being bought things I can't use as I just feel really guilty about it, I know it's meant to be an 'incentive' to get me out more but it really doesn't work like that. Anyway, thought I'd try and get some use out of it today...however the main attraction is a wall walk...a walk along the castle walls 50ft up...now I don't like heights anyway...but when I saw the only way up was this tiny winding staircase it was a definite nope!! 😮

I really can't tell from the picture, you should be able to see or feel if there are any of the old marks left now.  As long as it's only sanding marks left then move on to the 3000 grit.

It feels all smooth 👍. Also mostly removed that mark and that is smooth thankfully however I don't think I can remove all of it. Just feeling any rough areas and doing them before moving to the next stage.

@TomsFocus do I use the 3000 until the headlights look a little better compared to the way they looked with the 1000? So not as cloudy. Left had 3000 grit

I don't like seeing this when I went into the works garage to get something out of my truck earlier today! 🙄

Apparently they started to let the ramp down with the truck door open and it came down on the ramp post!

Yeah that's right, the idea of the 3000 grit is to remove the scratches left by the 1000 grit.

Give it a wipe with a damp cloth again and it should be fairly clear now.  Then the polish is like a really fine sandpaper that takes out the final scratches from the 3000 grit.

I don't like realising when speaking to someone using the Parrot handsfree that my drivers door speaker has packed in!!  I didn't notice it with the radio on as I don't have it cranked up high, but on the phone I could clearly hear only the passenger side speaker was working.  Afterwards I did turn the radio up to see if it was maybe the Parrot at fault but nope even with the radio that speaker is dead to the world.

So now I've got to try and diagnose the problem and possibly replace the speaker, if I can be bothered...

Silly thing but check also the balance is correct and that no one set the balance so one side of the car has sound 👍

Left the headlights for today. Going to see if it needs further sanding then may move to either compound or polish. Want to do this just in case to see if the headlights will turn out good rather than just spraying the clear coat on. Hope I haven't sanded too much.

@TomsFocus what's your thoughts on how it looks? Sorry its my first time doing this so need a little guidance.

The top one definitely looks ready for compound for the final light surface cut.  Bottom one still looks a bit cloudy on top but that might just be the light and picture angle.

The right headlight my dad was looking at it and it looks like it's in a worse state so have to see. He ran water on both and they turned clear so a sign which they are ready. My dad did a set of headlights and he sprayed clear coat on them after sanding and they did look good. My machine polisher is with my uncle so have to see about getting it soon if I want to polish it.

I might sand the headlights by hand diagnoly as I heard the clear coat will stick better and probably skip polishing and just go with the clear coat. Can't drive the car without headlights and my uncle said he'll drop it off tomorrow at my grans.
