As Sean states above - when I used to teach we regularly attended colleges etc to try and get the above message across

Couldn't agree more Clive. Something needs to be hard hitting, watching a video on TV is one thing, but personally for me that video felt more, and if you turn it into a living experience... Who am I kidding, something like that would cost too much!

Exactly, and I think there's so much regulation on what they can show on TV that the regulators are more worried about offending people than actually saving their lives with a good hard-hitting warning.

And I agree about limiting cars for younger people like they do with bikes. In fact if you look at Ford My Key, that in combination with the least powerful engine and a black box is basically all you need, so we already have the means to do this. The whole point of doing this for bikes was to save lives, and applying it to cars would probably save even more.

And talking about these kind of warnings on TV, there was a very good one circulating on YouTube recently about car insurance. The best bit was after the guy had to get out of his Corsa and walk home, he was then splashed by a car driving through a puddle which was a Fiesta lol.

Shocking, 8 years in jail is not nearly long enough and he'll probably be repeating the same thing again. Is there such a thing as a permanent driving ban?

Lifetime bans are rare but can be imposed by the courts. Prison sentences for drivers who cause injury by dangerous driving can be up to two years. The maximum prison sentence for anyone who causes death by dangerous driving is 14 years. The minimum compulsory driving disqualification for dangerous driving is 12 months. There has been an outcry for these punishments to be increased, especially for those who cause death or injury by dangerous driving. There are guidelines that magistrates must follow, and on rare occasions judges have imposed lifetime driving bans.

The law needs changing so that magistrates & judges can impose harsher sentences, the minimum terms should be upped

in 2013 there were 1713 deaths on UK roads - that's just under 5 per day, every day & the UK has one of the best safety records in the world.

That's 1713 too many.

In comparison South Africa suffers 49 murders / killings every day & that's apart from all other deaths by other means

Wamt: the turnip who decided to stop in the middle of a narrow road, just after a turn off which would've been safer to turn into and stop in to drop someone off, there was room to overtake - just. But meant worried looks from the stopped traffic queuing the other way. Why do people simply not engage their brain on the roads?

The other minor annoyance was people happily blocking a mini roundabout, because the lights on their path is red.. the person at the front of the queue (I'm about 4 cars back) was clearly indicating the opposite direction, yet they happily stopped in front completely blocking access...

The amount of driving I did yesterday! 50 miles!!

Doesn't sound like much? Keep in mind it was all done on an island that's 9 miles long and 5 miles tall :( Painful!

I don't like the M20 - Still!

Another accident this morning, we are now 3 for 3. Thankfully only one lane was closed, not three as previous!

After getting a flat N/S/R tyre only a few weeks ago, I don't like getting out of the car tonight to find the N/S/F tyre almost riding on the rim!! I did think I could hear a humming noise for the last couple of miles, no wonder.

I've put air in it but God knows if it'll hold. I don't have two pennies to rub together until the 27th so lets hope it can keep going until then!

Good thing I was already intending on replacing all four tyres at the end of this month anyway...

What i don't like is the lowlife pond scum that reversed out of a car park in front of my parents' Fusion, probably wrote their car off and drove away.

He was pulled over by some lads in a scaffold company van and still had the cheek to ask my Mother if she would be willing to sort everything out without involving insurance companies.

I have discovered that he is at 9 points already and is likely to lose his job (aw pity).

He is being done for driving without due care, leaving the scene of an accident and failing to provide.

Bear in mind that my parents are both in their 70's, neither in good health and not exactly flush with cash.

Being without a car (even temporarily) will really affect them.

If he has 9 points on his licence, I don't need to hear any more!! 3 points? OK fair enough that could just be a speeding ticket. 6? A bit dodgy. NINE points? Sorry, but you get no respect from me.

Did you just happen to book him in Clive?

No, Strangely enough I was kept away from him.

One of my good friends in Traffic had the honour, apparently he blubbed like a baby while being gripped up.

I do know where he lives though. :d

Haha nice.... Good to have friends in other places

That was good of the scaffolders!!

Hope they're both ok

Mother a bit shaken and arms hurting from jarring on the wheel but generally both ok.

They both have extensive health problems (Father had triple bypass 2 years ago and Mother had multiple surgeries for stomach cancer/ruptured bowels and crumbling spine).

I advised them to get checked out on case but tbh it wasn't a high speed whack as Mother saw it coming and braked hard before the impact.

The scaffolders are in line for a slab of beers, it was originally thought that they were just avoiding getting involved at the scene but they chased the moron down, stopped him and removed his keys until a response unit arrived.

Those scaffolders are certainly deserving of those beers for what they did - most people would just have ignored it or reported the reg to the police at the very most.

It is nice to know that there are still some good people out there.

I hope your mother is alright in the long run, if not that driver could have more worries than a dangerous driving charge.

Oh he's got more worries than he knows.

He's got me annoyed ;)

I sense an active dog practice coming on...

Good on the scaffolders though to be fair most the time it's just one person in the car so I can understand reporting to the police but when you have a couple of scaffolders who no doubt will be well built you don't have an argument.

Which scaffolding company was it, I think they deserve the publicity

As James said, which scaffolders?

The plank deserves double kickings as he was driving a mk3 Mondeo.
