In theroy they should be saved to your Gmail account which is a mandatory sign up

Wouldn't that be Chrome rather than Edge?  🤔 I was hoping they would automatically be transferred with a login but it hasn't happened.

Holding a nice pair of metal bbq tongs pretending you know what you’re doing should work nicely👌

Well, it stopped raining just long enough to carry out the manly ceremonial burning of the sausages .

Anyone know if I can move all the saved passwords from my old laptop to a new one?  Both windows 10 and Edge browser.

I don't know for sure but there is an option to export your passwords (3 dots in the saved passwords page) although there might be an easier way.

If you do find out I would like to know too because I may need to change my Laptop this year because of damage to the casing due to a faulty hinge.

At  a guess they should be saved in the original folder so I'd be looking in settings and extensions within the browser itself (3 dots/ Hamburger).

Yes, that looks like it will work. I don't have my new Laptop yet so I can't try it out.

From my Googling so far, it looks like you can export them that way, but not import them as a whole.  Still need to do each one manually and individually.  Not quite sure what that means though.

The hinge has finally broken on my old laptop funnily enough (8 years old), that's why I'm having to embrace the change of the new one...after it's been sat in a box for months.  I don't like change...  Must admit, the new one is only half as thick and doesn't feel as robust.  Have you chosen one yet or still looking?

You can Export them as a whole but it has saved them as an Xcel document. I'm not sure what else I can do with it because I don't have a Microsoft account.

I have decided to look at Laptops with backlit keyboards and I want  15 inch one so my choice is limited. I also fancy a 360 degree one so I can use the touchscreen sometimes, but they are expensive so I might wait until newer versions come out and buy last years model at a cheaper price.

The hinge that has broken on my HP is beside the on/off button unfortunately but I have done a temporary repair that seems to be holding out at the moment but I don't think it will see the year out.

That's exactly what's happened on mine, same side even...also HP... :ermm:  I was hoping to keep it as an 'outdoor' laptop for car programs but not sure it's worth it now.  I've also wrecked yet another 'genuine HP' battery after just 12 months so would need to replace that if I keep it.

Ah, I see what the export does now.  It just gives you a written list of passwords to refer to for each website.  It's probably no quicker than doing an email password reminder/reset on the ones you can't remember in that case.  Seems like a poor system for MS tbh, Android and Chrome make it much easier to copy things between devices.

If you can wait it might be best to wait until laptops come out designed for Windows 11.  I bought this one on 8, which was immediately updated to 8.1, and then to Windows 10 which really took it's toll and stopped a few things working correctly.  I've also stuck with a 15.6" screen but not fussed about backlit keys or touchscreen myself.

You can save the Xcel file to OneDrive, which has some free storage but I've not tried that yet, I was hoping you would do all the donkey work for me Tom and tell me what you had done😁.

My next Laptop will be like my next car, I want a Rolls Royce but end up with a Ford because that is all I can afford😁

Lol, trouble is I know nothing about all this modern technology!

Cars are much more my area than phones and laptops! :whistling:

It does just save as a CSV file (Excel type) even if you put it on OneDrive.

On the new machine you can only import as HTML or from another browser.  There doesn't seem to be an option to import as CSV.

Well this is weird...many of my passwords have copied across automatically now, as have frequently used sites etc!

If you sign into the laptop with a Microsoft account and use Edge that's normal. It syncs your Windows settings (including favourites and passwords) to your Microsoft account.

As @erictcleric says, if you have a Microsoft account and log into Edge on any device, it will copy everything across* (though I don't believe it copies extensions across onto the mobile Android version of Edge). No fuss whatsoever except for individual websites that might need to verify that it's you logging in via a new devices and any two factor authentication.

Got hold of my new Lenovo Legion 5 Pro laptop on Friday and it was a couple of minutes to do both Edge and Firefox by simply signing into the accounts and syncing the profiles (Firefox was slightly less exact but otherwise just as easy).

Must admit, I'm not really getting on with mine (now there's a surprise! ).  It's not as bad as the new phone which I've now returned but still messing with my head.

The screen seems quite fuzzy which probably isn't helping.  It's full HD and running in 1080 so it should be sharp shouldn't it?  The old one was only 786 but sharper.  Both 15.6". (Anyone know what the .6 is about?). It does have an anti glare coating where the old one was shiny so maybe that's it?

Being silver isn't helping either as it's reflecting a lot of light towards my eyes.  Hard to get a black laptop now without going for a gaming one!

You have removed the protective film from the screen haven't you Tom ? 🙂

You will need to play around with the settings and there are a lot of them, your head will be spinning by the time you are finished.

If you are having difficulty reading text then type "Adjust Clear Type Text" in the search bar and try to see if you can set it up better before you do anything else.

I don't know why Silver Keyboards are so common, especially with white letters. That is another thing that has limited my choice when I get my new one, the Keyboard has to be Black.

You would be surprised by the number of people that complain about their new phones because they did not realise there was a protective film on the screen.

So sadly some idiot has hit my passenger door and drove off. Thankfully my dashcam got it and I've reported the police.

Bad thing is this idiot is uninsured and the neirbours all know this car as he used to park at the house at the end of the road occupied by gypsies. I really hope something good comes from this. Might change my car from this.

Umm...I don't think there was one...but I'd better check.  Even I'm not that thick surely!?

I think the idea of silver laptops in general is to make them look like MacBooks...  But those do at least have black keys!

Phew, there wasn't any protective screen film!

But it's still fuzzy.  Also turns out the keys are backlit...which is useless...silver keys with a white backlight!?  Tempted to sell it on and look for a black one instead tbh.  Also kind of want to stick with HP now, despite specs per pound being worse than alternatives.  (Now I understand why some people just stick with one car brand despite the costs getting higher and specs getting worse...VW in particular!! )

Needs to be 15.6" screen.  At least 500GB SSD.  At least 8GB RAM.  Ryzen 5 or better.

To get a black one it would have to be a gaming laptop like this - 39P48EA#ABU, HP Pavilion Gaming AMD Ryzen 5 8GB RAM | Box.co.uk

Or the non-gaming one comes in blue which might be ok - HP Pavilion 15-eh0017na Laptop - Ryzen™ 5 - HP Store UK

Obviously both the same price, so is either 'better' overall?  I should add, I don't use it for gaming as I have an Xbox for that.

Same one on Amazon but with an Intel i5 processor - HP Pavilion 15-ec1001na 15.6 Inch Full HD Gaming Laptop - (Shadow Black) (AMD Ryzen 5 4600H, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 (4 GB Dedicated) Graphics, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, Windows 10 Home) : Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

Also the choice of GTX 1650 or GTX 1650 Ti on both...  (Isn't that made by Castrol? )  What does the Ti mean?  Is there also a Ti X? :whistling:

Why do they make so many combinations!?  Surely it increases the overall manufacture costs...  How do any -non-computer people possibly know what they actually need... :g:

Lol Tom. I'm still using a Dell Inspiron I3 about 7yrs old IIRC.

Hardly gets used as it takes an age to fire up as it spends more time actually updating than anything else to a point where I've disabled auto updates.

It also still has the sticky label that would keep the lid securely closed attached.

Mines also an i3...hence wanting at least a 5 this time (bigger is always better, right...)

I use it for probably 4 hours a day, every day... 😮

Cost £350 in July 2013...so the pence per day is barely anything!  Wonder how much it's cost in electricity though...  Not to mention the 3 battery replacements

It takes so long to start up I have to switch it on when I get up and it's just about loaded Edge and Mail by the time I've got breakfast!

The new one is super fast (Ryzen 7), not denying that, but I just don't think I'll be able to get used to the silver or the screen.  No harm in sticking it on eBay for a week I s'pose!

In other news, I bought some 'Ultra bounce' pillows to replace the other crap ones...  There's literally no difference!  So those are getting returned.

Is everything worse than it used to be or am I just becoming a grumpy old man?

I Think the original pillows I had from 2014 were 'over filled' buy they don't seem to make them any more.
