jmurray01 Posted December 11, 2015 Share Posted December 11, 2015 Well, it is Friday night and with the absence of alcohol (early start tomorrow) boredom got the better of me and I decided to "upgrade" the HP ProBook to Windows 10. I'm keeping my Acer on Windows 7 but the HP is my mother's laptop and as she barely uses it, I can afford to potentially screw it up. So, we will see what happens... Literally all I've done so far is change the default web browser to Firefox (not even going to TRY the new "Edge", same crap as IE only with a new name) and then loaded FOC to post this. Preecematt Posted December 12, 2015 Share Posted December 12, 2015 I love 10, Laptop was 8, it kept reminding me to upgrade which was annoying but I'm glad I did, IMO it's the best WOS yet. 8 was a rushed diabolical shambles the user interface was awful and closing windows etc was a pain and very over complicated. 10 is so much more user friendly and that's coming from a 23 nearly 24 year old that loves modern tech Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Stoney871 Posted December 12, 2015 Share Posted December 12, 2015 I think the problem is that W8 onwards are aimed more towards a touchscreen interface (tiles etc) but I only have one oppo with a touchscreen PC monitor and it was an extortionate price when he bought it. Not telling you what to like just that it is the modern way of doing UIs. M$ have to keep up with the times or they will loose market share. jmurray01 Posted December 12, 2015 Author Share Posted December 12, 2015 Day two of Windows 10 and all is still going smoothly (well, as smoothly as it can with a Sempron and 2GB of RAM). The only issue I have noticed is that sometimes it will stick on the boot screen with just the 10 logo and no loading icon, so you have to turn it off and back on then it boots perfectly the second time. Unfortunately, 95% of the software I use on a day to day basis, is incompatible. Some of it won't run on windows 7, for that matter: and runs off Windows XP - although it was written for Windows 2000 Yes, I could upgrade my software but then I'm looking at quite a costly exercise, across nine daily PCs, four occaisional PCs and three laptops. If ain't broke etc......curiously enough, I know of a local publisher who is still running Windows NT with no plans to upgrade For the home user and the new start-up business, I think with Windows 10, Microsoft have got it right.
