And the man who took it away to "scrap" it said it was being broken up for spares.

AND, they've put a Ghia bumper on it ... when it's an LX.

Pah.

Whoa. That's one of the main reasons why I'm put off buying a used car. Was it not written off in the accident then Nug? Looked pretty bad to me.

Cant remember the hold story why you got rid of it!? Can you quickly remind me :)

I can, well first this is what is looked like after the crash (note the number plate):

SDC11147.jpg

Basically crashed into a BMW in a country lane in January, insurance declared it as an equal blame. Got some quotes from garages and the best one gave me a £900 repair. And that was only cosmetics, for new parts (if I was to keep the car, I didn't want second hand body parts).

There was a chassis problem as well, the impact beam on the drivers side was bent quite badly on the corner. And the steering took some damage as when I drove it home (3 miles away from the accident) the steering wheel pointed to the left, but the car pulled to the right.

So I decided to scrap it, with a company that specialised in Ford cars. They gave me the money and said it would be broken up for spares because we only sell cars in a very small way.

It's surprised me and my Dad because we have trusted the dealership where it is now a couple of times before (Dad's bought 2 cars from there). It's definitely changed the way I look at used car traders.

Pricing. Bought the car £1,600 private > sold the car for scrap for £170 > car now up for sale for £1,800. Makes you sick doesn't it.

That's a disgrace. If I was you I'd go down undercover and look at it, take a photo with you of what it looked like post crash and leave it in the glovebox hidden. Then, whoever buys the car will find the photo (hopefully shortly after purchase) and then go back to the dealer disgruntled (probably).

That's a very good idea. I might actually do that because we WERE planning to go to that dealership today to see if there's a Fiesta there. I still can't get over it. I'd understand if it was up for private sale or much cheaper but definitely not by a trader at that price.

I would def go down and leave that photo!! It makes me sick that someone is just trying to make money off what could do someone a lot of harm!

Isnt there someone you can report this too? I know watchdog was on the radio about this time of thing. Pointless ringing the police i guess?

I was just thinking about this, I doubt the police would be interested. I highly doubt the car has been re-MOT'd and been inspected. Just dread to think someone else will have an accident in the car and they won't be able to get a claim from it when their insurance checks the history of the car and it will be an un-reported total loss. Not to mention it still might not be road worthy.

Your local trading standards is the one mate thats is bad i can't beleave they are selling this car to the public known whats its been involved in and to take the !Removed! even more £1,800 they haveing a laugh when they only give you £170. makes me sick mate has in for the picture in the glovebox idea do it i would and i would leave more than one in the car with a before and after.

Go to the dealers undercover and ask about its history and why the bumper is not an LX but a Ghia.

See what story they can come up with :P

UPDATE (Now I feel like a bit of a watchdog myself!):

I've just spoke to Mr. Newport Car Sales on the phone, would you believe... this is how the convo went...

Salesman: Hi, Newport Car Sales.

Me: Hiya mate, I'm ringing up to see if you got any Fiestas for sale at the moment?

S: Riiiight, that's one thing I haven't got at the moment. I've got Kas, Corsas, 206s, an Almera, plenty down here if you want to come have a look.

M: Right, ok. I've looked at your website, what about the Ford Focus estate you got down there?

S: Focus Estate? Yes, we have 2 here, one silver and one red...

M: *Cuts in* Yes, I'm quite interested in the red one. Saw it on Auto Trader.

S: Ah yes, great car that. It's currently up for just under £1,800.

M: Right, bit of a question for you then. Would you sell the car for cheaper, because I know for a fact it's been in a serious accident.

S: Accident? Well I'll be buggered. Can't be I wouldn't of had it in otherwise.

M: It's my old car, I'd know.

S: Oh, hmm, uhhh. I got it from a man called Dave at Just Ford (LOL), I need to sell the car to repay him. I suppose I could sell it for a short of £1,600. But seeing as you've put me in a sticky position I can't see that being a good offer to you.

M: To be honest, knowing what the cars had done, and having pictures of the car at the accident right in front of me and knowing it's a total loss. I can only see the car being worth around £1,100... At the very most.

S: Ok, ok. I'll tell you what I'll do. This is a big favour to you on my part now. I don't need the car here in anyway. So if you'd like to ring Dave at Just Ford. I'm sure he'll know who you are. And ask him to make a deal with you, and I'll let the car go then with no strings attached.

M: Ok then, I'll try that. Thanks for your time.

S: Ok, bye then.

Hmmm. <_<

I'm going to have a chat with my Dad when he gets home. It's may be a good deal.

I may be getting my old car back with repairs at a budget price. With a new clutch (clutch was fudged when I had it), new tax disk, and MOT til November.

Buuuuuut then there's having a car thats been a total loss. Not knowing if it's been inspected. It's a bit of a dilemma.

It maybe a good deal if you do get your old car back but like you said has it been checked over to high standards so thats its safe and knowen hopefully you never do will it save your life if you have another crash beacuse like you said they have put a ghia bumper on instead of a LX so what else have they cut corners on.

Awwwwww my head is all over the place!!

UPDATE 2:

Just rang Dave at Just Ford. He knew who I was, straight away! :D

I really layed my authority down on this one and told him straight. I've made a deal with him, I could buy the car for £1,200 and the brand new clutch I got lying around in my bedroom.

Things I have to consider though, it's been basically upgraded to a Zetec. It's got a Zetec interior (apparently) and obviously the bumper. And it's had a new gearbox (3rd gear had a worn out syncromesh) as well as the clutch.

This has completely swung it for me because I could have the car back for that and have the problems with it fixed. Oh I'm so confused! I don't know what to do!

Advice??

No you didn't sound harsh. :)

Well, I've spoke to Dad on the phone. We are going to go down there later (along with Dad's mate who is a mechanic), give it a test drive and do a big check on the engine and the body work. IF it's in good order, we'll CONSIDER taking it back. But if we can see it's been "bodged" then we'll forget it and carry on looking.

Hmmm.....

Been reading what you've put on here and FB.

Personally, i would go and have a look at it anyway, but i wouldn't go for it again. I'd take the advantage of being able to try something new and go for something like a Fiesta. If that plan doesn't work out, then go back and consider NUG, but i would be suspicious about the circumstances.

Wow this all seems pretty shocking, cant believe the amount of con artists and cowboys out there.

They're really taking the !Removed! and if ive understood correctly they are offering to sell it back to you at a reduced price?

If you really want the car back i'm sure you could knock them down further cos I'm pretty sure what they are doing is illegal and at the very least not very ethical, threaten legal action, threaten police, and certainly contact trading standards or similar.

You've certainly got them worried by the sounds of it anyway...

That's a turn up for the books! What I'd do now is go and see it, check that it's safe and sound to go on the road - buy it for £1200, sell it on yourself and keep the £400-500 profit to go on your mk4/5 Fiesta! :D

It would be excellent to shaft them after they've tried to do the same to you!

Yeppo. It's quite obvious that they weren't going to let off lightly that it's repaired. I don't know whether the car was formally written off or not, or declared CAT B, C etc. but there should be some sort of formal (and LEGAL) test against the car.

Personally, i'd look elsewhere, but i can understand why you would want to take a look.

Also if you do look elsewhere, try to avoid that garage!!
