Does anyone know if FIEB-A046B74-ACW fits the 8 inch Sony bezel for ford focus 2012 (both alarm and lock key on bezel)  ? Or what is the part number for the interior trim?

Here is the bezel. So I am looking for the bottom cover(interior trim) for this console:

Please let me know if you know. Thanks

The original bezel which you took out should still fit this one from the 2012 edition.

If you look in the following video, you can see its the trim with the original vent looking plastic pieces rather than the newer flat trim piece:

  • Thanks Luke. Your guide inspired me to see if it can be done. I must admit it took around 6 days to write up the guide, an hour per day when I got chance! Did you end up on SYNC 3 in the end

Will this guide work for a 2012 C Max Titanium?

  • Author

I would expect so yes, although the trim pieces and fascia is different in a Cmax, but the core components of sync 3 will be the same.

If you message me with your reg or vin I can do lookup to see what factory options you have now to ensure compatibility.

What are you trying to do? You shouldn't need to touch that for changing your audio unit... this thread is for Sync 1 upgrades 🙂

I have issues with GPS location and need to check those values as these settings are related to nav and may have been changed. Of course, it has nothing to do with ACM but with nav. I only need the values you have on your focus cars. It is a long story.

But this thread is for BVC to sync 3 same as mine. Do not know where else this would be more appropriate to ask.

Hello I have recently bought a ford focus mk3 2014 1.6 diesel.

when i bought it, it came with a aftermarket android stereo. There's no sign of the original stereo anywhere, no ACM or anything.

I am curious if i can fit ford sync 3 into my car.

Yep, you sure can. Just need to order all the required components as it looks like the factory wiring is still present. Your car would have had Sync 1 I suspect. What trim level is it?

I was looking at videos of a ford ACM and it had 2 connectors where the large connector is on mine.

As far as i can tell, i don't seem to have one of those connectors (i can only see one?)

All i know about my car is that it's a 1.6 tdci edge.

when i got it, it did not come with the original trim, just a aftermarket one with the android stereo.

https://naviupgrade.com/all/resources/can-i-upgrade-sync-1-to-sync-3/

I was reading that from that naviupgrade

"If your vehicle is pre-2011 and/or doesn't have a Sync system, unfortunately there is no solution to run Sync 3 in your vehicle at this point in time. Pictured above is a 2013 Ford Focus SE base model which wasn't equipped with Sync, just a "Ford Audio" clock system. Unfortunately this system doesn't have vital CAN lines that are necessary to run Sync 3. If NaviUpgrade finds a solution to workaround this issue, we'll update this article accordingly."

This is why i am worried i might not be able to do it.

If you send me your reg I can look it up on the system and see what you had at factory...

My reg is AF64 YTY

Ok, so it does appear you have the non sync system which is a basic stereo, probably why someone else upgraded to an android unit.

However, you could probably get SYNC 3 working with amendments to the wiring. Most of it will be there, just a case of tapping in to the required wiring looks that already exist.

Is this something you would be willing to undergo? Bear in mind all the Sync 3 components will set you back £500+

It is something i'm looking at doing due to it will increase value of my car, it will operate faster and much better than those crappy slow android units and it will look nicer.

So far all the android units i've seen are quite crappy

I just noticed that your ACM didn't have the 2x connectors

Is there a difference between between ACMs or can i get one from any ford and the features won't be any different?

  • Author

I totally agree. It's a much better system and those crappy android units are never great.

The large black connector in your photo is for the ACM. Mine only had one connector also, instead of the two that the Sync 3 ACM has but I just wired it up as required. It's not that difficult. You will need to run some new wires for the CAN BUS because I don't believe the basic factory stereo used CAN.

Do you have audio controls on your steering wheel or not? Any other factory features? Reverse camera, DAB, parking sensors etc?

I will take a look at the Ford wiring diagrams tomorrow for your edge spec car and report back what I think you'll need to do.

Thanks a lot for the help honestly.

I have no idea about DAB due to no access to the original stereo.

But i do have the black fabkra connector but no idea if it carries DAB or not.

but i do have volume control on my steering wheel on the right, i don't think i have a microphone but i do have a third party one installed. On the left side of the steering wheel, i have controls for the speedometer lcd display. (this is the pic i found on the internet)

I have no reverse parking camera (planning to add that myself), no parking sensors but my android stereo does detect if my car goes in reverse.

What did you do for the loss of the central locking button? i noticed that there's no locking button there, do you just use your key instead?

Is there any other pictures you'd like me to get from inside of the car? see if there's the bluetooth module hiding around or something?

  • Author

You can't use your key as a way of locking the doors from the inside because the alarm will go off, and it sets a different mode.

I ended up just purchasing a momentary button that is wired up to the wires that used to feed the button on the original fascia controls and mounted it in the centre console, easy and cheap. I can provide the details also for this.

I don't believe you'll have a Bluetooth module as it's only for Zetec or higher trim, and pre-SYNC 1 2011/12 models). 2012+ came with Sync 1 as Bluetooth modules were discontinued.

Also, do you have any factory USB or line in sockets (that are not part of the android retrofit)? sits usually in the armrest in the centre console or  the glovebox.

Finally, is it a normal key ignition or start button for ignition?

so i noticed that i have a usb connector inside the stereo area, but idk where it goes. it's a miniusb connector it appears.

I have not noticed any usb connectors in the glovebox (other than the android ones, i'll have a look tomorrow) and i have nothing around the armrest area (mine doesn't have a armrest) I have also noticed that armrest area looks like 1 entire piece of plastic (no usb hub or anthing there) and i don't think i'll be able to fit the usb hub there, i'll have another look tomorrow.

I was thinking of just buying a button, but sure i'd like to have the documentation on that if you're okay with posting it. everything you do is helpful.

Would it be different if i was able to source a DM51-18835-AAW i wouldn't need to mess around the front fascia connector would i?

Ah so i wonder what i would have instead of the C23B or even if i do

You will note that the instrument cluster changes colour to a darker blue gradient. This is normal and expected and is just part of the settings change. This is how it looks on newer Focus MK3's. The functionality remains unchanged. Also note, the right-side steering wheel directional buttons are no longer functional as these are now moved to the left-side directional buttons (the ones that used to control your old radio). Again, this is how it works in the newer Focus cars.

I'm curious about this part, so how would i go to control my speedometer cluster if the controls have been moved to the left?
And would it matter if i'm using the basic speedometer display and not the newer fancier one?

  • Author

Yeah it should still be fine with the original speedo.

Don't worry about the steering wheel controls , mine is slightly older than yours, so yours will just work as it does now (volume on the right, speedo menu on the left)

The DM51-18835-AAW (US fascia) is very expensive and only available from the US so will involve customs charges too. You can indeed use the dial hazard/wiring button on this though - but it still requires a little wiring tweak as the US fascia has two connectors whilst the normal UK one has one.

ah that's good. I am thinking of upgrading the speedo but that's something even further in the future.

Hmm i'll take my losses and just do what iwas thinking before, adding my own locking button.

Thank you for being super helpful, i'm reading more in the comments of this thread right now. so far you've been super helpful to everything.

I'm hoping i can do this, would love to have all the sync3 features in my car working.

Can you take a picture of the below two connectors please, from both sides? (I'm looking to see the wires that to in to these connectors so I can confirm you have what we need)

image.thumb.png.9c429e2b446ca1be277b6165d9df27c6.png

For the FCDIM you'll need to remove the connector from that adaptor its current going in to (which was part of the android unit aftermarket kit I suspect - it's not part of the original harness)
