Maps/Sat Nav issue after Sync 4 OTA Update

Featured Replies

I presume Ford are aware through the dealer network. My issues started straight after 4.2.4 - but the dealer says an accessory module’s needed. Two weeks later I’m still waiting.

in-car entertainment issues don't stop the car driving, and have no safety implications and as customer satisfaction is utterly irrelevant in today's world - most car manu work to a 18 month (can we really be bothered to do the work) timetable

@Botus, even by overlooking some irony, I have to disagree.

I would indeed say that a malfunction in adaptive cruise control by barely taking any speed limits into account any more (without disengaing the function and without warning) provides a safety implication...

However, this does not help anybody. I now opened a ticket at Ford by email. Let's see if the are able to say anything and when they will be able to help.

Hi all. Some may know me on here already with Sync 3.

but I’ve been following the thread with Sync 4 issues since 4.2.2 and 4,2.4 as I’m also affected.

I’ve wrote everything about the issues and how it’s affecting the car drivability regarding speed sign and or maps updating with the correct speed.

the fault is with sync 4.2.2 and 4.2.4 freezing.

please register and log your issues on there as this is direct to Ford.  It’s there own Forum and staff who look after it work for Ford.

Until Ford start to get more and more complaints over this, there going to be slow in responding.

you can see all me updates, pictures and all the evidence for this fault,

copy @Rob in everything as he works for Ford on there.

you will see my user name as Daz-Focus so you know I’m hiding nothing.

people that know me on here, I used to deal with a lot of Sync 3 in my previous Focus.

I know have a Mk 4.5 with Sync 4.

Sync 4.2.2 was also an update in the USA and was not good when realised previously to them.  Lots of complaints.
Ford ignored people complaining and still realised it to the U.K. and EU Market.

4.2.2 and 4.2.4 are terrible and nothing will fix the map freezing, speed sign issues and speed sign updates.
sounds are terrible and Bluetooth drops,

andoid, apple devices including CarPlay and android auto are not the issue.

Sync is.

I hope this helps. If any wants advise please let me know. I’m ver familiar with Sync 4

thanks.

I'm on the same thread Daz, no response from @Rob yet unfortunately so we may be waiting a while for the issue to be resolved.

sure - but that's not in car entertainment ?   unless you elude to the car's inability to show to the driver speed limits (as the headunit has crashed) as the ONLY way the car manages modern safety systems...  and that on the face of it does seem an interesting idea - the MORE we use GPS and speed limit info from mapping to inform the car how to behave, there is a risk (if) it manages all this via the entertainment system.

And that's an interesting minefield...

BMW since 2012 use knowledge of the road ahead to manage gear changes on its 8 speed ZF auto boxes - by having knowledge of hills and corners it avoids 40% of the pointless gear changes models without it make.

Then we get to bings and bongs and even mandate speed limits on 2024 cars !!! by a camera cross reffing the speed limit info with road speed

If we use the same cheap unreliable rubbish to mismanage those safety systems - because android app development is far more important (to marketeers) than road safety, we will have a big issue

In 2009 hackers brought a GM car to a halt in the middle of a USA highway after finding a security vulnerability in its in car entertainment that allows access to its ABS / ESP system via bluetooth - having reported their finding to the manufacturer, GM deliberately did absolutely NOTHING to resolve - until by chance the NTSB found out 5 years on mandated they make the effort to sort it

And whilst Merc and BM claim all their safety systems run on separate Canbus systems to avoid this risk... how, if they use nav info for safety systems ?  do we REALLY think the accountants let them buy two nav receivers and have a secure map and then another for the user mapping ?

The likely reality on all scenarios - its likely FBI / EU mandated backdoors to stop the lemmings misbehaving when the scum manage the takeover later this year

VW work on than 18 month bugfix timeline... it works well with a 2 year warranty ... finally gets badly built and flashed with the new known to be buggy software - then wanders abound the world trying to get sunk on a ferry (for an insurance job), if that doesn't work, we park on a floodplain hoping for some nice weather (another insurance job), if neither of those work eventually after its be kerbed, the suspensions bent and its mostly rusty underneath, the six month old car can go to get keyed - as the new owners pride and joy... where upon the bugs become known and magically before we have to update the car, its out of warranty...

It’s been three weeks since my car was diagnosed …no further information from the dealership, beyond “when the accessory module arrives we’ll be in touch”. I’m wondering if they’re actually waiting for a software patch …or is that my cynicism ?

Either way, I’m ***** off that there’s such an issue & it’s not sorted. This & a few other issues will affect future car choices.

but your view is irrelevant in the terms of their car sales - although Ford make better cars - albeit with "german inspired economic faults", Ford is going down the pan - the power of marketing and the deliberate dangerous change in wealth from normal people, to idiots who help it go wrong, all means they have the money, and yet they don't have the ability to know a good car from a rubbish, deliberately unreliable stiff disaster with chocolate wheels.

Thus Ford's UK mkt share has dropped from 40% in the 1980s to less than 8% now, with all the fools ruining this country buying Audi, BM and Merc trash because they believe the marketing hype...

Ford which is not German picked up on this change late, and thus is rushing to stay in the mix and making bigger errors cutting the wrong corners....  The focus was the car that Richard Parry Jones brought to the party and saved their bacon for 30 years.... and whilst its always been better as on overall car than the Golf, its never been at the right point of the curve to oblivion in the masterful way VAG has managed society's downfall

if all that is over your head, its why Germany won the wars.... they were really playing a different game to one the lemmings here fell for......   our country has gone down the pan and has no future at all - and they with a certain bad actor currently murdering many, think they are about to control the lot.... with the homeland of our prime minister playing the role of a third party.  Whom just lost us our steel industry - which means we won't be able to make anything - cars, bikes, planes, ships, space craft or even weapons to defend ourselves...   they aren't incompetent at all - they are all crooks and its all smoke and mirrors

and yes, it is all relevant, as that's why the headunit has faults and why its not getting fixed...

Hi all,

I spoke to the Ford 'Customer Relationship Centre' this afternoon. They acknowleged they are aware of an issue.
I'm not holding my breath but I was informed the techical team are working to resolve the issue and release a fix. Fingers crossed we might start to see some progress towards it being resolved.🤞

Just had this update on my Focus ST X MY 23.25.

Ford Power-Up 23-PU2001-PR-FX – SYNC update to improve large file handling.

Not sure if this is similar to any of the other updates reported. I will report any issues if they occur.

I had this update for my MY23.5 in December.  I now have just had Power-Up 4.2.2 updated last week. I have noticed the occasional map freeze and audio stutter when I get Sync notification bings or reverse camera is in use.

I have been having the map freeze problem since the beginning of December. The map freezes from between one minute and a about 15 minutes. Had the car ( Focus 2023 ) in to the ford dealership on 2nd Jan. Everything up to date and I was informed that Ford are aware of the issue. Still waiting.

  • 3 weeks later...

Ford doesn't care about this sync4 issues , they're pushing us the software from US with issues... This was reported by the americans for more than 6 months ago, yet we received this problematic software...Don't think we'll see ford powerup6

Another thing to consider here is when pushing out Sync4 there was a worldwide shortage of processor chips.

Indeed when I test drove an ST with sync4 it was fitted with a screen that was the same width as is sync4 standard now but half the height.

I believe that Ford decided to fit less processors than before but made them do more work which surely must have a detrimental effect on the systems.

My sync4 is playing up as well, frustrating as it will be fine for days then throws a wobbly fit.

Distorted notification tones and glitching on streamed or usb drive music is a common occurrence too.

Do you have the matrix headlights? What upgrade are you receiving?

Also, about Sync4, Ford seems that it doesn't care aobut this issues, they are present in America but they're still pushing to us those faulty updates, we have a big topic here with the Sync4 team... Focus MK4.5 LED Headlight Levelling Update - Ford Focus Club - Ford Owners Club - Ford Forums

Ford customer relations tells me to visit a workshop. Probably knowing that they can not help either.

Really frustrating.

Tried to use customer feedback - Navigation - Wrong Position several times in hope to provide some log files.

Due to German consumer rights I could request three times a fix and if not able to fix return my car. But I want to keep the car. Just want this to be fixed.

Still have the issue frequently.

Don't think you can return your car if you have 2 years with it 🙂 Also, this is just a software issue not a HW one, so yeah, it can be solved but ford it's too lazy...

I to have this problem and as it as in the dealer for a service on 26 Feb. reported this to them. They did a master reset but it froze on the way home and continues to do so several times on a journey.

I went back to them by phone and asked if they had escalated the problem to Ford but all they did was give me Ford's customer care phone number to do it myself which I will do tomorrow but don't hold out much hope anything will happen.

I had a similar Sync software update problem several years ago and ended up at the CEO's office as I wasn't getting any ware with customer services. The CEO's office didn't get much joy from technical for many months before it was cured either so don't expect there will be a quick fix for this one.

I might have closure on the freezing & other issues. The trail:
November ‘23 - update to 4.2.4 - freezing starts
November - car booked in for diagnosis
December - diagnosed as “accessory module needed”
February - car in the workshop 8am to 4.30pm

I dunno if a module was fitted BUT a software load took ALL DAY & the battery came back very tired. I’ve done 2 x 2hr journeys today, without freezing although the computer did shut-down & re-start.

See what happens ….

I do a lot of travelling - the sat nav issue was a problem. I’ve gotta be honest, it’s affected my confidence in Ford’s ability to keep their software moving.

Only the headlights module or also bcm? For me they upgraded both modules + headlights, but without bcm, and now my car it's randomly starting the headlights... 😞

I don't know if there has been an update or not but the map freezing is not quite so random - after 16, 32 and 40 minutes (on my last three journeys) - suspicious in themselves.

After talking to the local dealer yesterday I went on and spoke to Ford customer relations.  They logged the problem and gave me a case number and actually telephoned back this morning.  The person I spoke to was awaiting a reply form the tech group. I'm not the only one that this has been logged for. I suggest if anyone with the problem ought to phone Ford on 020 3564 4444 to get the problem logged.  It may help.
