Is that Ford's way of saying it will never be released ? 🤣

I do hope not. 😢

I did come off the phone feeling positive. It’s just now a matter of when.

I’ve had every version of Sync, and it’s a shame this version is the most problematic.
we rely too much on tech now I’m afraid.

Given this issue with Sync 4 has been ongoing for many months now it is exceedingly poor that Ford have not made information on the issue more available to Vehicle Owners.  I'm sure something on their website at least would have been appropriate.  I have followed the information on this thread but it seems to have been really difficult to get any information on the issue. I really will be considering whether or not to buy a Ford as my next vehicle as I had a problem with my last Focus and now this issue so sadly Ford may be loosing a loyal customer.

Since the Ford sync4 forum was closed, we're waiting an answer from @Rob which was the connection with Ford.

I had an email a couple of weeks ago from Ford customer services that the problem will be solved in September with updates which will be over 3 downloads.

I wait in hope but not too confident.

I can confirm from speaking with Ford UK who have been really good, there will be 3 over the air updates realised in quarter 3 this year.

The update was delayed as Ford was hoping that the updates due to the issue did not have to be done at there garages which would have caused more delays and issues.

I had however confirmation that the updates can now be done over the air and will be released in Q3 2024.

Other information as below as well.
Hope this helps and if I find ,ore I will let you know.

  • Ensure all connectivity setting tabs including automatic software updates, data sharing and vehicle location are enabled.
  • Latest level of Ford Pass
  • A time schedule for inhibit updates to take place.
  • The vehicle is in constant use. If not, adequate preventative drive cycles are carried out to ensure when the OTA is deployed the Battery SoC is above 75%

Thanks for the hint with the app update.

Months pass by, one by one - what's missing is the long promised SW update fixing the freezes.

Let's hope for the update to be provided before the fleet will be retired at the scrap yard...

Hi, just to give you an update.

Ive recently had to take my car into the Garage for a replacement battery which is fine as under warranty.

I did get a brand new Ford focus with Sync 4 as a hire car which does exhibit all the same issues we’re having

Stuttering, garbled sounds, map stutters, dropped calls etc. In fact the hire car dropped more phone calls than my car.
The call was always still connected, just dropped Bluetooth or Car Play dropped out

After speaking with the Ford garage today who Ive know for many years of going there, they’re also waiting on Ford for the release for the Focus. Every issue I raised they confirmed as to do with the software on Sync 4.

I did check the revision on the hire car to my car,

Hire Car 24 Plate
Sync Version 23191, Revision 946

My Car 72 Plate
Sync 4 Version 23159, Revision 915

Not sure if people know,  but the version number is based on the year and day of the year.

So, 23159 is Year 23, 159th day in the year.  8th June 2023

23191 is 10th July 2023
23191 is just a very minor update to 23159 and possible fix one simple issue at the time,

I did notice only one item minor improvement in 23191 to 23159.

When you press the Climate button for air direction, on mine it’s terrible, unresponsive and just stutters, on the hire car, it’s as smooth as butter.

Ford are still aiming to release in Q3 2024 with 3 updates for the Focus.
The updates are still planned for OTA. (Over The Air)

If I hear of anything I will let you all know.

A new update and positive one.

I’ve just spoke with the UK Ford exec team who have been amazing through out with me.

The Sync 4 updates will soon start to be rolled out to the Focus.

They’re doing them in batches, so don’t panic if u haven't got the update straight away.

Good luck everyone 👍

The following below is the guidance from Ford

  • Ensure all connectivity setting tabs including automatic software updates, data sharing and vehicle location are enabled.
  • Latest level of Ford Pass
  • A time schedule for inhibit updates to take place.
  • The vehicle is in constant use. If not, adequate preventative drive cycles are carried out to ensure when the OTA is deployed the Battery SoC is above 75%

Well that should make 90% of all Focus Mk4.5 unable to get the updates, but it's a good excuse for Ford to be able to use when the updates fail to happen.

I laughed when I read that too.

the days of anyone knowing what they are doing is long passed - these days, software is fixed by you throwing the noughts and ones in a cement mixer - throw in some crosses, and switch on using a cold wash with a high speed spin, and hope the bugs come out - then just release without trying it out - after all they'll be trying it with a hot wash cycle too - whilst expecting a tuner update to address why the engine emissions on the diesels don't hit the homologated tyre pressures, for petrol cars running 22" wheels

Thanks for the update Daz, hope those updates fix all our issuses.

Keep this post updated of youvreceive it

My automatic updates have been switched off since I read on the other forum about all the problems everyone was having.

Will I still get notified if an update is available or would you recommend I turn automatic updates on now.

I did the same as mine seemed to be working ok. I have turned them back on now. Hopefully the new updates won't mess it up. I would guess you will still receive notifications of available updates. The app or the car should notify you I guess.

This is great news!

I really hope that this can be rolled out quickly, Though I'm not able to turn the Auto-Update on on my car as it just sits draining the cars battery! Replaced twice already (22 plate car).

Unlike others I have found that Ford Customer Services have been useless, just saying that thousands of customers are having the same issue!

Over the past few weeks the system has been getting worse though with no updates being made this doesn't give me any real faith that the system will work over time.

Mine has a ACC which becomes unfunctional while the car is "lost".

Still awaiting update. Maps costantly being lost on journeys. I paid extra to have ACC and this becomes unusable. Have had fords for 30 years but after the length of time ford are taking to correct an issue they caused it will be my last ford. Await the update !!

Yep, also my last Ford, I'll never go back to this brand.

for you doomsters...

the world went sick, Ford are just trying to catch up with the Junk germany has been peddling for the last 20 years

just remember on your next car, when you go to moan they will send you on your way with the phrase, DESIGN FEATURE - Now Fxxx Off, ringing in your ears

Did they guy you much indication as to what ‘soon’ means?

Definitely before 2032, it could be as soon as 2030 !! 🤣

Yeah after 25 years this will be my last Focus and Ford. However this is also helped by Ford dumping the model!

So anything new on the updates? Have anyone got the first yet?

I think nobody, I honestly don't have hopes that I'll get the update this year

They messed up the software last December. Still no fix or correction, this firm does not deserve future purchases from me. I paid extra to have intelligent cruise control and this is rendered inoperative when maps lost. I am not happy with ford's attitude and will in future purchase an alternative brand.
