Since Ford is sleeping I personally did something.

I went to a Ford dealership and said that this problem is continuous, they updated the APIM again and created a case at the Ford factory. They said in 3 weeks I'll receive an answer if the APIM will be replaced or not. I'll share the feedback with everyone from here since Ford is not transparent.

Another contact to Ford, this time they called back. Sent a list of questions from development team. We will see if that helps...

Hi there,

Im from Portugal and have a Focus mk4,5 with sync 4 and have those problems you describe, sound, navigation. Tried to contact Ford but without luck... Any news on this topic?

No Vilhena, otherwise we would write here 🙂 As I've said, I have an open case with the factory and still waiting for an answer, most probably it'll be a negative one but let's see.

Thanks, hope not, since there are many reports

I've been suffering the same problem since the December ota update.

Dealership ran a full day diagnostic and all they did was disconnect the battery for a reset, it made no difference at all.

Speaking to their chief tech about it he stated that the last update included changes to the telematics functionality which forms part of the navigation system.

Obviously dodgy software so awaiting a stable update is the only option.

One thing I found to avoid a constant map lockup is to keep a navigation destination active at all times (somewhere suitably far away that I won't actually be going anytime soon), and mute navigation audio prompts via the map page.

You get turn prompts constantly coming up on the dash screen but at least speed camera warnings, road sign notification and the smart speed limiter work properly (which don't if the nav has locked up).

The fact that I find the nav works properly when an active route is running says to me thst the problem must be related to passive navigation power saving or suchlike.

Some news from my side: Received a call from Ford Germany, they told me that they are aware about the issue and that they already have a solution. I should await an over the air update, scheduled about beginning of June, to get the issue fixed.

We will see... Keep you posted.

Thanks, we really appreciate the update, we really hope it'll be ok...

I still don't have any update even if it's been more than a month after I have opened the case with the factory.. :(

I went to my garage today and it seems that the information it's true, I was informed that by the end of June, we'll have the update, but let's see if this is true..

That is very true I can confirm it 👍 By the end of June 2029 there will be an update of some kind 🤣

I have also had this problem since December as per previous posts by me.

However I have just found that if you have the full map screen and not the home screen it doesn't freeze. I was using this screen for 3 weeks with no freezing but when I went back to the home screen it froze several times. Hope this helps.

Mine can freeze when on full map,  usually just after starting up.  To rectify, I just go to home screen and have the map in the little window, then when that's loaded, I switched back to full screen map. Usually behaves itself after, with just the notifications causing static and stuttering in audio.

Just had a call from Ford Customer Relations UK.  I was told this problem is expected to by fixed by August 2024.  We will wait and see.

Ladbrokes and William Hill are now taking bets on the date.

Received a call from Ford, over the air update will take a bit longer than expected, they currently expect end of June / beginning of July.

Just to let you know to adjust your bids, if needed.

I bought a brand new Ford clipper stline in august last year, And i have been having issues for 3 months now, The map freezing (if you open and close navigation it resets) And when im calling someone hands free using bluetooth, After 2-3 minutes I can’t hear the person im talking to as well, I called my garage and they said i need a new module and that they have to wait for Ford themselves to release a hotfix for the system :/

Does anyone know if it’s possible to ask the dealership to downgrade the software to the 4.2.1 version?

You could always ask them. They might even be able to do it (but I very much doubt they would, even if they could). How would you prevent the system from updating automatically in the future ? and new map updates would always want the system software to be at the latest release before the maps would update.

Sync 4 is not backward compatible I’m afraid.

The dealers only have the lastest version and the unlock part on Symc 3 where you could downgrade, is not possible on Sync 4

Even if you got a brand new Sync 4 unit fitted, it would still only be supplied with the current. 4.2.4 software.

So I’ve actually been speaking with the U.K. Executive  office this week a couple of times, who have been great and really helpful as I have a separate issue as well.

They can confirm that Ford UK are totally aware of the issue that we are all experiencing and a fix is in the process.
it is taking longer than hoped, but they are hoping the Fix will be released sometime in August.

They will not however release it if there are still issues.
They want to ensure everything is ok.

But Ford are aware and I will be kept up to date when they have more news as my case will stay open for now.

Is that Ford's way of saying it will never be released ? 🤣
