gc88
WOOOP Been a while! I just wished my car a happy 3rd birthday by getting it a MOT certificate, thankfully no faults. It had an advisory that brake pads are getting a bit thin.. but i'll deal with that post christmas! I'm looking at doing the easy bits of the service myself, so if anyone's interested i'll let you know how it goes! Also, if anyone had done it and has hints / tips.. :)

gc88
My car is.covered in so many car park Dinks. Eugh. New air filter was ment to come today, but never showed up! Yodel!! I'm debating drilling a few holes in my air box, but its a funny shape with the filter being round...!
Lenny
Dont drill the air box, Remove the slam panel to locate the end of the snorkle, Then drill a hole in the slam panel to allow more air in to snorkle, Then create a stainless lid to cover hole on slam panel but scoop air from front. The airbox is designed to spin air around the filter but the snorkle sucks in.

Lenny
I won't be going that far myself. Not yet anyway! Remove the slam panel for 3-4 weeks, you will feel more responss and grunt from the exhaust. It takes a couple of weeks for the greater air flow to eventually clear its way through the dpf etc. To reveal a free system

Lenny
Now I'm interested. What is this slam panel and what does it do? Oh, and dpf? The slam panel is the plastic panel that sits above the upper grill and helps slam air through the grill on the car. But due to the design of fords air intake snorkle; it reduices air intake to the snorkle head. And the dpf is the honycombe filter in your exhaust ßystem that catches the carbon, Greater mass of air intake Results in Greager mass of blow out through the exhaust, Resulting in the growel but will take a few weeks for full effect. gc88
Sounds like you know your stuff... How easy is it and what bit do I remove? Is it there to aid filtration of big objects or anything?
Lenny
I wouldnt leave it permanently removed due to cosmstic reasons. Instead Id locate the snorkle opening on the slam plate and drill a series of holes in a cosmetic friendly formation to both aid induction and look good. The filter itself blocks all objects and removal of slam panel wont open up the filter housing. It will open the ammount of air available to the snorkle to be sucked in to the filter. At worst a leaf or two would get next to your filter inside the housing.
