JW1982
Rust on the rear wheel arches is a known problem of the focus MK2/MK2.5. Many times the rust is caused by sand/dirt and water which collects at the small gap between the rear bumper and wheelarch. After a longer time the sand/dirt grinds through the paint and the water causes the bare metal to rust. My experience is that because the rust is caused by an external cause it is not covered by the Ford warranty. Your situation seems to be different. If there are no signs of external damage and all warranty demands are met it is worth a try to claim warranty.
Lenny
Anyone else getting/got or had rusty arches and have you had any luck with ford 12 year corrosion warranty, Or aim i going to foot the bill for this one :( My focus began rusting within 6 months of purchase, In any case i reckon your better off paying a body shop to repair the area as they will do it properly as your paying for it to be done, ford however They will take the oppertunity to educate themselves on the art of spraying and repair, main occupation sales man but he will give it a go at spraying, purchasing a can of paint from ford etis for under 20 pounds and spraying it on his lunch break then in to vacuum monkey for a spit and polish. Charge you 5 hours labour plus paint and tell you " our specialised paint repair department sorted that for you" you will drive away out of severely out pocket but content in the beliefs that you have done right by going to ford with it as most would assume but no within 12 months the rust will reappear and you'll realise you were raped, you will at that point go back to ford to complain about being in for paint repair 12months ago, but that visit wont be on record with ford because the sales man done the job, pocketed your money and it never went through the books at ford at all, they will then offer to sell you a 2015 model with " anti chip film" you starting to see what im saying here The body shop will do it correctly, sanding away the rust down to the clean metal, Prime the metal to prevent rust creep, Then a sand smooth Followed by colour coat Finishing with a hard clear liquor job done correctly not job disguised only to reappear in 12months time. Ford just want to sell, Don't be surprised if they sit you in a show model and offer to add the additional "anti chip protection cover" on this model for an additional 400 pounds. ;) All dealerships are the same shower of cash cowboys Sorry if that seems negative but its sadly the truth I've been there saw it.
artscot79
Dont waste youre time i paid for a bodyshop to do it and 18 months on its back and its not due to the bodyshop the guys very good, ford dont give a damn never have never will again it sounds negative but its the facts as the bodyshop explained to me the issue is poor galvanisation thin paint and bad design the way they designed the focus water is shot at force along with sand and crud at the most vulnerable areas the door bottoms the sills the arches in between the doors rather than applying better protection on these areas they are just painted the same as the rest of the car yet fiat galvanise there cars properly i had a 10 yr old punto with no rust vw apply clear protective thick film to prevent it and it works ford sell you some junk about paying for paint protection rub there hands and count youre cash
theduke
Sounds like quite a sore subject this rust looks like im going to diy it then and underseal the bugger while im at it!
artscot79
Remove the rear arch liners and underseal up there and if poss get some rubber tubing and split down the middle run this along the edge of the arch liner where it meets the arch this stops the wet liner sitting against the metal
theduke
Looks like the arch liners where its come from Sent from my GT-S6810P using Ford OC mobile app
theduke
Right well the rust has started to show where the arche meets the bumper aswell now so it needs doing! Any pointers on the best method of doing it im guessing grind/cut out the rust fill and sand, prime, paint, lacquer ans underseel is that right? Pete14tc
Looks like some lessons learnt here. If it was me I would challenge the 12 year corrosion policy and claim a design fault of the bodywork to allow crud to collect in this area making it repairable under the warranty. My wife's KA was fixed by Fords after an altercation with another car and the job was 100% top notch.

In that case ford were getting paid for it tho, Checking my service book and theres one missed service stamp and only one body and paint check stamp its probably going to take forever to get them to do it and for the sake of about £30 worth of materials and a lot of my time I am going to attempt it myself. Ive painted wing mirrors and some engine dressing parts which turned out pretty dam good if I do say so myself in the past lol (and its a bit of extra practice before I get a zetec S kit for xmas :D )

Sorry to re-activate an old post but this made me chuckle. I Totally agree with Lennys comments. Same happened to me after Ford dealership damaged my car (twice in one visit) and repaired using smart technique. Dust and runs in paint and swirl marks where they tried to blend it in, and badly masked fog lights Rejected on collection and currently waiting for a new painted bumper from the factory. 1
