Auto updating something!

Hoping it’s F9 but as someone suggested might be a voice update..

That just generates the XML log file to upload to Ford servers. Same as the one you can download separately if needed.

Downloaded the same package several days ago and I'm still on F7 maps

Assume it's the F9 update?

Stoney , what’s the latest on the auto downloading ?
I’ve just started mine

The download takes time over wifi, if it's correct that the wifi shuts off after 30 mins left unattended, I guess mine too approx 2 hours on a 70mb connection, I know the last bit downloaded via fordpass while driving, it was completed on Tuesday and the message came up updating and it did install the file.

Just been to the car now and pressed scan for update, the circle thing kept spinning and flickering but nothing there.

While I was in the car I wanted to check a couple of mobile apps that had been playing up. They all work fine now, but did notice that unlike the radio logos on the left my apps place them on the right. ( No I don't have all the radio logo, before you ask 😂 )  Actually I was surprised when people said they are stored in a file on Sync3, I always presumed the image was pushed from the DAB station as part of the digital data stream.

Why am I not surprised!

As I reported previously I updated to Sync 3.4 without any problems but like others no map update appeared so I downloaded the 22Gb map update link that alexp999 kindly posted.

https://ivsubinaries.azureedge.net/owner-package/10507861069573772965/Map_22631088687_Update.zip?utm_source=FordOwnersClub&utm_medium=ForumLinks&utm_campaign=referrals

I just installed the map update and uploaded the second xml file and everything seems fine.

One other thing worth mentioning is I copied the 22Gb map update to a spare 60Gb SSD I had and connected this to a USB adapter, it was detected without problems and the update completed in about 55 minutes.

Great news. I was holding out for the ford online update but as it appears ford have no idea an update is available and the great news that the alexp999 works I think I will take the plunge!

And me after 18months of this s***  I'm losing the will to live.

Noticed on returning to base this afternoon my over the air update has completed.  I think I will rely on this way of doing things in future ... particularly because it involves no input from or hassle for me.  It takes its time - but time is hardly a critical issue.

Particular thanks to Alan (ProximusAl) for explaining how things worked.

I can sympathize with this train of thought, yeah it might take weeks or months to get the over the air 22gb maps, but in the current lockdown situation in my area , do I really need new maps for my weekly 6 miles of driving 🤣

just use Alexp's download link its exactly the same as the Ford download.

Do you need to modify any of the files to get it to work, or is it literally a case of download, extract to USB and follow ford's instructions for update over USB?

Precisely, but ... I had to drive from Ipswich to Taunton via Brackley the other day, returning via Southampton.  My F8 map was fine except when it came to the road layout north of Cambridge when I found myself taking a wrong turning and flying across fields.  But the error was soon put right and, in truth, I wonder if the F9 map will be sufficiently up to date to capture the v recent changes to the roads here.

Happy to have new maps for my 3-400 miles per week (for now!) but not too worried if they're not as up to date as they should be.

And it took neither weeks nor months to update ... just two or three days.

But, hey Mark, I sympathise with you on the growing restrictions in your part of the world.  Stay safe.

The car auto updated to Sync 3.4 on Monday and Tuesday.  Today I’ve found that when I try to browse through my music on my USB I get the message, “Browsing not currently available”.  This applies whether I try to browse albums, artists or songs. Has anybody else come across this, and if so, have you solved it? No sign of any map update yet!!

It has to re-index all your music on the USB, and I did think it took longer than before, but did come back eventually.   They really do need to sample my local accent, as she's really dumb sometimes LOL

No ... I don't have this problem ... I just checked!

No mods needed. Just download, extract to USB drive and install.  (Takes approx 2 hours to install.)

Hello all

Following on from sync 3.4 update from Ford website, this took about I reckon around 12 minutes to install during my short hop to work. Uploaded the log thereafter on the Ford website to update their records.

First impression is that the display is a lot sharper than before. I then downloaded the F9 maps from the Ford website onto a 32GB usb stick (Currently on F7 maps). On my journey to work the next day I installed the usb stick in the car and hence started the process.

The updates are done in stages, hence no need to leave the engine idling for a long time. I'm pretty sure that I saw around six different update stages and took no more than 45 ~ 50 minutes. Once completed it asked me to remove the usb stick, update completed. I updated the log off the stick onto the Ford website to update their records and when I check it says I'm up to date. Checking the car sub menus it says I'm on Sync 3.4 and F9 maps, happy days.

It;s worth using a good quality USB stick with a quick read / write speed to speed up the process.

Regards

So half way through in downloading the update.
I’ve a 2020 Feb build Focus TX

Done the main update last week and as lots of others no presented with the maps.
I know this isn’t the map but it’s downloading over 5G mobile network and it’s no faster with a 800Mbps connection to my home 60Mbps connection

Half way though downloading and it’s consumed 2.17GB. 2 hours in as well.

I will see what the final figure is after.

Thats just a voice update for sync 3.4 not maps.

Yes I did think as much.  Hopefully the main F9 Maps shouldn’t be far behind when the Sync team understand what is going on

Ok so update that’s last update was 2.17GB and installed in about 20 mins voice still worked fine That was 4U5T-14G422-BAE

However now been presented with the next update.

1U5T-14G421-BAG

So I will see how big that file is and leave it running.
Oh what fun.
