That just generates the XML log file to upload to Ford servers. Same as the one you can download separately if needed.

I have no xml file in the syncmyride folder, all files have the download date, nothing dated when I installed it.

Sync 3.4 20136

every one happy with the updates?

any glitches?

I followed the instructions to the letter with the maps update - went for a long drive for well over an hour with the USB stick in "Updating System Software" it took well over an hour to get to the key cycle message but as I was still driving and couldn't stop I noticed the system restarted by itself and continued with the "Updating System Software" message, by which time I needed to stop and turn the car off. So it's probably bricked now. I couldn't sit in the car for another 1.5 hours wondering if I could exit or if it needed a key cycle.

Although the warning message comes up, it doesn't actually need a key cycle after the first part of the update. I finally got a good opportunity to do my update today as I had a 1 1/2 hours journey. Sure enough, after about an hour the first part completed and rebooted whilst driving. The 2nd part started but was not complete by the time I got to my destination, so left the engine running. Forgot to disable the timed engine stop so wasn't sure whether the update had completed or not when I went out to the car after about 1/2 hour and the engine had stopped. So reinserted the USB and it went back to updating system and then 'update will complete after key cycle' . So cycled it, and everything was OK apart from no log file. Used the troubleshooter to generate a log file, uploaded to the Ford site and update recognised as complete.

@jamie burchell So I'm sure your system isn't bricked, just reinsert the USB and the update should restart, hopefully just the 2nd part.

Thanks @ianincheshire

That sounds encouraging. I'd like to think that the update process was designed to be robust and not corrupt everything in case of issues, but I'm also a cynic and can see the warnings about damage right there in the instructions.

I started the engine with the USB stick still in place (I never removed it) and "Update Complete" flashed up, and now it's back to "Updating system software" again.

It's either starting all over again, or just doing the last part perhaps. I have no idea. It would be nice if there were some sort of indication as to where in the process it is.

The instructions are pretty useless if what they say will happen doesn't actually happen. I was going to do the update in two parts - one each leg of a 2 hour journey with the key cycle/break in between. Had I known it would crack on through part 2 automatically for god knows how long, I wouldn't have done this.

Edit: Now after an hour or so have the "first update part is now complete" message, performed a key cycle to start part 2. This message didn't seem to have closed by itself, so I've done a key cycle. Perhaps had I waited a bit longer it would have closed itself.

After the key cycle it flashed up "Update complete" again, then "Updating system software" then almost immediately after "update complete/remove USB stick". So what an earth happened there? The second part took about 8 seconds??

Hi everyone,

just managed to update dad’s car properly using Alex’s map update link provided on this forum. Took around 2 hours. After cycling the system I still had problems with voice navigation. Did a master reset and everything is working like a charm now until I noticed that my live traffic and hazard is greyed out. Unable to enable it. I’ve tried everything but it won’t work. Then I check my Ford account and it shows I have no subscription even though I’m supposed to have another 20 months left.
Has anyone else had this issue?

Thank you

20 months? Are you sure? Mine was 24 months from registration. Just renewed on rolling month £3.49

Just got renewal notice for mine as 24months is up in 4 weeks

What’s a key cycle?
Btw I’m waiting for official map update for fear of invalidating either or both of the Ford warranty and my lease company warranty.

looks like an auto update may be an option but very weak wifi and motor running for 2 hrs is putting me off. Also fear of a flat battery.

Key cycle is just switching off engine and restarting , also locking car from outside used to be recommended to ensure Sync3 shuts down. However although after around an hour of uploading F9 although screen briefly says perform key cycle the upload continues on its own. Alexp999 download is the official Ford update that has just been sourced direct from the Ford server not via the update website. Not sure you would invalidate the warranty with this as performing  map updates are the owner responsibility, unlike updating the Sync3 operating software from other source.

Hi Andry55, yes 20 months remaining. He already used 4 months out of 24 months.

Great, I was just going by the Ford year on your profile......

I have updated my Sync 3 over wi-fi to 3.4 build 20136 but according to Ford's website there is no map updates (still on F7)

My Ford Focus is a Sept 2018 model.

Can I just download the map updates from alexp999 and update that way.

It was mentioned on a previous post that the Hazard Alert was greyed out after the update, I would still like this to work.

Is there a fix for radio logos yet

The DAB logo file I had when my Focus was on Sync 3.3.19052 was 1U5T-14G658-AD. It appeared to be missing many station logos after I updated to Sync 3.4.

This is the newer DAB logo package for Sync 3.4.20136, direct download from Ford's servers. It's only just over 60 MB.

Installing this requires the creation of a simple one item autoinstall.lst file. (Attached below, change file extension from .txt to .lst (LST)

Take your USB flash drive and format it exFAT (quick format is fine).

Create a folder called SyncMyRide in the root of this drive.

Place the autoinstall.lst file in the root of this drive too.

Copy the DAB logo file you downloaded into the SyncMyRide folder.

Unplug your flash drive from PC and plug it into your car.

Update should take only a few minutes.

Most DAB/FM station logos should be displayed again. (I'm still missing BBC R5 Live).

This process worked fine for me but it is entirely up to you if you want to risk trying it on your own car.

car updated, no problems. Thanks for you help.

Hello everyone,

Just an update: I've raised the issue with CS. They'll get back to me within 72 hrs.

Will update you all once I hear anything further.

Thanks, keep us updated as I currently have Live Traffic and don’t want to risk having problems after the F9 update.

Anyone else had their Live Traffic option greyed out after updating to map F9

No problem with mine after installing F9 using Alexp999 method.

Took the plunge and updated the Maps, took about 2 hours and message to say it updated successfully.

Maps now say F9

Only problem now is I haven't got a log file in the sync folder.

Using the ford troubleshooter files gives me an error code PKG_ERR04

Any ideas anyone?
