Seriously Jamie?

Not everyone has or can afford a car.  They don't have a choice in the other thing!

It just irritates me, as thousands (if not millions) of people need a car to get to and from work, hospital appointments et cetera and have to pay extortionate amounts for fuel because of the taxes, and yet a £1 pack of tampons is getting headlines?

Actually, looking it up you can get a pack of tampons for 85p from Tesco, and given that the tax in question is 5%, that means women are up in arms about an extra 4.25p.  It is still money and does add up over time, but for the love of God - it isn't the end of the world. Having to pay £70+ for a tank of fuel (57.95p per litre of which is TAX) is more of a pressing issue in my opinion.

I'm sorry but owning a car is your choice having a monthly period is not an option for women. The amount of tax is not the issue its a matter of principle which I totally agree should be scrapped

I take your point, but if it is about principles then surely all food should be tax free, given that everybody needs to eat and doesn't have a choice in the matter?  In my opinion the only things that should have tax should be real luxuries, like alcohol and tobacco (even though I enjoy both).

Basically, if it isn't a necessity - tax it.  If you need it to live and work (sanitary products, fuel, food) then don't.  If the government wants us to be healthy and have jobs, they should make food and fuel affordable.  Perhaps people would have a better attitude towards working if they didn't have to spend half their salary (which is already taxed!) on just eating and getting to and from work, leaving the other half for bills and little else.

But of course the government doesn't care, because they all live in cities within walking distance of their work and have massive pay cheques allowing them to eat in restaurants every night of the week.

**RANT OVER**

Tax has to come from somewhere though...  It pays for all sorts of stuff...  I'm guessing you didn't go to a private school, or have private healthcare, or build roads...  Things cost money and it needs to come from somewhere!  You cant rely on alcoholics and smokers for it lol...

Also, the majority of food doesn't have VAT on it, it's only the 'luxury' items like sweets and crisps that do iirc.

If your job doesn't pay enough to cover your fuel costs to it, you can change job (yes, I know that isn't easy but it is possible), you can't just stop menstruating because it's costing too much...

I don't like being propped up on Caffeine as the amount of hours I've done & am doing next week are ridiculous.  Whilst we're on the subject of taxes, I'm currently paying just over £700 a month JUST tax, N.I varies between 200-300.  I wouldn't be moaning to much about taxes tbh, as our tax allowance is going up next year and If I remember correctly I heard on the radio about sharing your partners tax allowance.  And if we're going to talk about tax the rich people more... Eventually there will be no more rich people as they are the ones that keep the 'lesser off' people going.  There was an example of it somewhere, about 10 people going for a drink and it really opened my eyes on taxes.  Cheryl doesn't seem to bothered about the tax on sanitary products lol.  Also Jamie weren't you contradicting yourself?  As you were moaning about the 1p rise in fuel.  Or are you more brassed off about the deeper side of fuel rather than just the outside of it

Found my example on tax beer lol, it's in Dollars but it's the same sort of principle as it is here.  Here is the link

Not sure what you mean?  I was moaning about the price going up, and am now talking about, as well as that, the fact that 57p per litre goes to the government.

Jamie, couldn't disagree with you more re: tax on sanitary goods.

You mentioned fuel, car ownership is not a right. There is public transport available, you have legs?, bicycles, granted none is as attractive as hopping in the car however those are your alternatives.

You also mentioned food, tax, or in this case VAT, is not on the majority of food. VAT started on luxury goods and as we are all aware has spread to other items over the years, however it is not found on most foods. It is not on vegetables, meat... so there you have it, you can exist on food that won't result in you being taxed, if however you wish to have chocolate, some crisps, alcohol etc then you will be taxed, but please don't for a second suggest that it is unfair to be taxed on items such as those when women are not going to be taxed on tampons...

I might of misread your comment then as I thought you said women are up in arms about like 5p tax or something along those lines & I thought you were being hypocritical/contradicting yourself as you are/were moaning about fuel price going up.

I was just referring to the price increase, the fact that more than 50% of it is tax is a whole other moan!

I don't like the outer part of my left bare foot smacking the top corner of my Bosch drill l-boxx, causing both a substantial bruise and some impact wound bleeding as I rush from the bath to the phone to answer it:sad:

Furthermore,  it turned out, it was not the expected urgent caller replying anyway: but a somebody else about nothing that important:sad:  Then again, at least it wasn't the daily  PPI (perpetual prat and idiot) call or some random telesales, offering an unwanted thing at an unpleasant price.

It's quite surprising the amount of damage an L-boxx can to the human foot.

Tampons have a variety of uses in workshop, as well as their obvious intended purpose.

They excellent for plugging holes and oil ways when stripping and rebuilding engines, for instance

Me too:wacko:

I've been that ridiculously busy over the last 5 days, am averaging 2¼ hours sleep per 24 hour period: it's only the copious quantities of coffee, tea and water that keeping my inner zombie at bay.

I'm averaging 4 lol.  5am-11pm.  Well I'm not going to get in from being active at work and settle straight to bed am I?  By the time I've got in, got changed had a wash and brushed my teeth, that's 15 minutes and then I've got to actually settle down.  It is starting to get to me, the hours.  BUT it's a job + it keeps me off street corners & more importantly it's bread on the table.  The coffee is starting to get to my bowel as well lmao

I keep forgetting to eat, an actual meal, the odd pear, here and there, a quick banana or half a pineapple; but not an actual meal:huh:

Sleep deprivation seems to drastically reduce the appetite and hunger never visits either.

I don't like finding somebody's had "an accident" on the hall carpet, right by the kitchen entrance:sad:

I nearly trod in it:ohmy::sad:

I find I'm the opposite but I crave sugar/sugary things.  So if they're are biscuits in the cupboard, boommm!! they're gone.

Seems legit - can't believe you've given everyone on here her e-mail address! Few of us might be straight onto her! :whistling:

Haha, sounds like those emails you get back about car enquiries about how they're often deployed and the car is on base and can't be viewed, but they can ship it to you at their expense etc etc -_-

Bit of googling shows I'm not the chosen one.

She wants to give someone 2.5million US dollars for safe keeping until she gets back...
