Things I Don't Like

Easy! It's Dave in aisle 3 that's the problem! Get him moved or fired and that'll sort it 😉

How did you know I was on aisle 3 today ? Lol.

I cause enough issues on a day to day basis to keep our HR and management team on there toes.

Everybody else turns a blind eye  or just can't be bothered to raise the issues.

I sympathise, David. One of my bosses had a habit of dropping you in things at short notice e.g.

Him: "Can you give a talk to "x" Chamber of Commerce?"

Me: " Sure, no problem. What's the date? "

Him: " Er, 6 o'clock tonight"😀

I wouldn't mind but I'm only a minion on the shop floor and havent a clue as to who over half of the people present actually were and what their actual roles were.

Wouldn't worry - they probably don't know either!😀

I don’t like that Ford decided to put a rubber belt on the inside of an engine.

The 1.0 is a fantastic piece of engineering, great performance for its size and it could have kept its well earned appreciation and continued to be fairly reliable too if they’d just used a chain or external belt. Now we are getting daily, sometimes more of people reporting engine failures and I just think it’s such a shame. The newer chain versions aren’t going to be able to make up for all the early belt models.

Yes, another one just appeared probably while you were posting this! It is a shame as it's a very enjoyable little thing to drive.

So, I've mentioned before that I pick up the odd signed CD/Vinyl bargain on ebay...

This picture just made me cringe.

Big book, tray, offcut of wood etc anything to keep the vents on the bottom clear.

The last time I had my HP apart I removed a lot of fluff from the intake to the internal fan and now the fan does not go into overdrive as often when I'm doing something intensive. Mine never did cut out but the fan did go fast sometimes.

You can buy a Laptop Lap Pad with Beads on the underside so that it can sit on your Lap, that's what I use.

Appreciate the responses, thanks.  Being completely honest, I'm not going to faff around with another laptop sized object to store and get out every time I use the laptop.  (At least twice a day).  At the moment I can just grab it one handed, while also carrying a plate or glass, which suits me fine.  This is the used laptop, I previously had an identical one for 8 years that never overheated.  Obviously I don't know if this one was used in a dusty environment though...  This is the problem with used items, they're never quite as good as new ones, often regret buying used.  It is what it is though, they don't make this laptop any more and my brain won't adapt to a new one.

I did have a look at the bottom holes yesterday, but couldn't see any dust in them at all.  I did hoover across them anyway, though I don't know how much help that might be if the dust is stuck deep inside.

Possibly a coincidence but I've also got an update-restart message appeared this morning.  Could mean it's a known issue with a previous update that's being fixed.  Or that downloading the update in the background created so much extra work that it couldn't keep cool.  Will allow that to install this afternoon and see if I get any blue screens tomorrow.

That is likely to be the monthly security patch, I did mine a few days ago and it did not take very long.

With my HP I have Cool Sense turned on and I think that is what speeds up the fan when necessary.

What I did was get a piece of thin particle board (the kind of stuff used for the backing on cupboards), and attached it with some sticky pads to the underside of the laptop. That way it is only one thing to carry, but it keeps the vents on the underside of the laptop clear. That should help a lot, as otherwise the vents on the underside -  which are often the intakes - will get gummed up with dust and clothing fibres over time.

Just caught up with this thread. Had the same symptoms as Tom.  Replaced the cooling fan, although the original was clean, also the thermal grease on the heatsink.  The heatsink on this Dell is a strip of copper but the fan, for some reason, cools the furthest point from the cpu.  It still runs hot so use a desk fan as coolant.  It's the global warming...

Well, not sure if it was the Hoovering or the update, but it hasn't blue-screened today.  And it's now 33.5c. 🥵

On another note, does anyone know if there's a UKTV Play app for Xbox?  Trying to watch 'Yesterday' channel on catch-up through Edge on the Xbox but it won't allow it.  Seems odd for a free channel.  I don't want any other sticks & remotes.

I don't want to be  paying our electric bill at work. Esp as now we seeing alot of mache -e and electric transits for prep and charging to 100% before delivery. Still only less than  10% of the diesel/petrols.

I've worked out we now using an extra £600+a day in electric. No wonder we blew the substation fuses  down the road Monday🤣🤣🤣

I'm just surprised that in certain locations the supply cables and substations haven't gone up in flames. Absolutely nothing has been done to the infrastructure to prepare it for all the tens of thousands of extra kW's that are going to be needed to charge all these electric vehicles.

Actually I'll correct myself now. The government and electrical supply companies have reached fever pitch with trying to force everyone to get a smart meter. Of course nothing is said about the fact individual meters can be remotely turned off at peak demand times. There is also the little know fact that the smart meter can detect certain types of load. Perhaps a handy feature if you were thinking about charging more for the electricity if it was been used to charge an EV ?

Substation was that old the electrical engineers hadn't got any fuses to match the ones that had blown. Had to go away and come back next day with some.

Is that an EV perk?  I've never seen a dealer fill a petrol/diesel tank 100% before delivery!

Has to be 100% so enough charge to get it off site and maybe up the road a little. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Got to make sure it's far enough away not to cause damage to your premises if they catch on fire right?

Don't like the info button on my TV remote failing 9 times out of 10 now.  Think it must have been soldered by Ford's cluster team...

Can't remember when I bought it annoyingly.  It's only cheap Chinese tat but I can't find it in eBay purchase history.  The original lasted nearly 10 years, not sure this ones lasted a year.

Or fords mache e HV battery connector team.

Found the invoice, it's 14 months old.

Seems like poor value if they only last a year.  Genuine ones are £26 though.  Have to decide whether to drop £6 on another cheap one or just put up with it now. 🤔

Daughters car gone in for repairs today and the courtesy car supplied is a 20 plate Fiesta St Line but just look at the state of these alloys.....

How in the world did you manage to do that much damage to the courtesy car ? You've only had it a couple of hours   🤣

Impressive considering those are rim-flange protection tyres as well!!

Lol, not driven it so far and tbh I asked the guy who dropped it off to move it from the top of the driveway to further away from the Focus as a precaution.

Precaution he says, yeah In case it goes BOOM says me, think he had a whoosh moment after 🤣
