Things I Don't Like

To answer my own question...replacing the black cartridge has considerably improved the character legibility!  Test diagram is still a bit dodgy but acceptable.  The level gauge showed the black as being half full, so I'm not sure if that's wrong or if the rest of the ink is too thick or dry or something.

If your printer is not used very often, the cartridges do dry out over time.

It's been used every other day for the last couple of months.  Hadn't had much use in the first half of this year though.

I don't like being without the log burner tonight! Been slowly dropping insulation out of the chimney void since it was installed and tonight the installer came back to reinstate it.

Fire out, resealed around flue pipe and the register plate. Away to cut a steel plate to add an extra seal to *hopefully* 🤞 stop the insulation falling.

Letting the fire silicon go off tonight and back tomorrow to finish it off.

Is it chilly up there then?  Still over 25c indoors here!

High teens at the top of the day today but, obviously, colder in the evening.

Also older house with little wall insulation and a BIG sitting room window with aging double glazing.

But most importantly, a wife who is convinced she should have been born in a warmer climate ie Spain etc 🙄

Ah, opposite problem myself, near-arctic ancestry! :rolleyes1:

I must admit I do like to be warm and love getting the sun but I can't sleep in a warm bedroom! 🤷

I still have a large fan going at work to cool me ,temp 18-20c . At home overnight got small rechargable fan. That goes all night until it's flat around 5am.

If you've got excess heat please feel free to make sure to blow the warm air North 🤣

Today's high in Durham was 17C and it's now only 15C and still falling 😧

Its certainly a lot cooler here today. Lastnight it was 23 in the bedroom so windows open overnight.

Most turned up to work this morning with a jacket/coat on and wearing jean's. Only the minority in shorts n t-shirt (myself included).

They'll be moaning later that it's too hot to work in the warehouse (22 degrees).

This is a big issue with a studio flat in winter.  Always a compromise between making the 'lounge' comfortable in the evening but also trying to let the temp drop before bed time!

Sounds like they need some of these!

I have seen some two storey houses and maisonettes where the bedrooms were downstairs and the living areas were upstairs. They were mostly in places with good views though rather than for comfort. During the recent hot spell it only got to 31 c where I live and my downstairs was pleasantly warm, upstairs was a bit warm for my liking.

I do own a couple of pairs of walking trousers with zip off legs and they are not as daft as they seem when doing some semi-serious walking in the hills.

Don't need any further encouragement as it is.

...I don't like choosing birthday cards...  This one should be pretty simple as it's for a female relative who'll be turning 90.  I like the 'birth year data' cards, and was a bit disappointed not to receive one for my own recent milestone lol!  But will an old lady be interested in facts and figures?  Also, does anyone know of a decent online store for this type of card?  I quite like this one, but don't really know why they'd put USSR famine on a light-hearted bday card, and also don't like the cassette tape image for music which is obviously historically inaccurate.

Still looking for one of these!  Have now seen this one...  My personal highlight is 'plastic toilet brush invented'...   (Not even going to ask how dirty your toilets were before that. )

Some interesting things on there, the annual wage ratio to cost of house but I'm not so sure about the first mars bar. ......man wasnt on the moon till almost 40 yrs later. Tis no wonder the conspiracy theorists say the moon landing was faked 😉

The are prices are shown in decimal currency !

Was the card designed by some 50 year old whipper snapper 🤣

No point showing what the actual price was in shillings etc as not many folk remember 'old' money! 😀 Me included, and I'm only 57! 👴

Well for you young folk:

A Gallon of petrol in 1932 cost 'One shilling, four pence, ha'penny'

which is approximately 7.5p in today's new newfangled currency 🤣

Lol, must admit I'm a bit sceptical about the accuracy in general.  But it's just meant to be a bit of fun after all.

Interesting coincidence though, the recipient spent much of her life working for a subsidiary of Mars.  (Albeit nothing to do with the chocolate bar!).

Just looking at the average salary. My grandads were both coal miners (as were most of my ancestors for around 150 years). I have some pay slips from the 1930's and my mum's dad (a hewer) was getting about 30 bob a week so only £75-80 a year. My paternal grandad though had worked his way up to Deputy  and was on about a fiver a week or £250pa so above average according to that card.

I don't like seeing folk flying flags at half mast incorrectly!

They should be flown a third of the way down the pole and not halfway.

Example of a local incorrect placement today.
