Things I Don't Like

Featured Replies

While we're on the subject of batteries.  I've just tested the Golf one again.

Remember I complained that 48hrs after a 6hr Maypole charge last month the voltage had already dropped to 12.2v?

So this month I decided to idle the engine for 15 minutes instead.  Before starting the voltage was 11.8v.  48hrs after switching off the voltage is 12.0v

So, with that totally unscientific test, it seems that the alternator does charge more quickly than the Maypole, but that 15 mins a month still isn't really enough to be worthwhile.  The charging voltage was at exactly 14.85v every time I checked it during those 15 mins.  I don't have a clampmeter here so couldn't check the current.

What did surprise me is that the warning came up for the key battery when I started the engine.  Odd as I assumed the battery had been replaced before I bought the car in March last year.  The battery cover hadn't been refitted correctly, and I can't imagine anyone could 'use' the car without noticing that!

Please test your 'spare' battery first, it should be punching out 3.3v, if less, treat yourself to a new one.

Had only a week or so replaced the battery in the fob I just lost 🫤

Wil be testing the battery as you suggest. I find the Maxell ones quite reliable.

Technically it's both.  Might be worth removing the battery and trying it in the emergency position to make sure he did code the chip as well as the keyless part.

Seems ok although nothing I do seems to be straightforward on this car.

Took the battery out and placed the fob in the emergency slot. At the the first time of pressing the start button nothing happened and I got a message saying no key present or some such wording. Feared the job wasn't done properly and prepared myself to give Lockcity a rollicking.

Put the new fob battery in (which I had tested); still got the low battery warning! Cycled the central locking and started/stopped the engine a few times - no problem there.

Took the fob battery out again to confirm that the emergency feature wouldn't work - except this time it did work!

Re-fitted the same new fob battery - no more low battery warning!

Maybe some sort of learning was required but thankfully all sorted now.

Went to drs this afternoon and been told I need to go to a&e . Apparently the blood test and other tests needed to be done there. Not looking forward to wait there. Having my tea first and do a flask of tea to take with me. Could be a long evening ahead. Charge my phone while I drive 40mins to nearest a&e.

@iantt hope all goes well for you 🤞

And me, not going well for someone in here, stinks of poo🤣🤣, trying not to breath to much or I will be sick. Might get to front of queue if I am.

While I wait on blood test results , they've offered me a bed in resus that's not in use to have a sleep due to a long wait for the only medic on duty. . Hope I wake up again. 🤣🤣🤣

your lucky it wasn't a corridor

Managed a few hours sleep on a hospital bed, even though the next bed the person was chucking up all night. 🤮🤮

12 hrs in total , waiting on triage, ECG , bloods,Dr and then didn't have a diagnosis. Got follow up clinic. Got home 5.45, went to bed and then my normal alarms started at 6, 6.30 and 7 to get me up for work. At work by 8am. Oh well, carry on.

My local Hospital has what they call an Ambulatory Care dept, whereby if you've sat in A+E all night come 9am they run you thru that and your done and dusted within an hour, obviously depending on what's wrong with you. Suspected cardiac etc

The cost of glasses, had my eyes tested yesterday, need a new prescription as am getting worse although i knew this hence the test. Very thorough and longest test i've ever had. Even offered an eye MRI/CAT scan disdnt know that was a thing, but at £49.99 - declined. I need titanium rimless frames as my skin turns cheap metals green, active x transitions single vision --------------- The grand total £620.00, errrrrm no can i have my script and ill purchase online, shopping around last night most were coming inat £130.00 much more reasonable.

For those that wear glasses once you've gone rimless you'll NEVER go back. Even reglazing come in at £100ish

You need to get diabetes! LOL You get free scans, and I get free eye tests too. I now have diabetic retinopathy. It also helps that my partner works for a major 'optician' chain, and I'm fortunate to get healthy discounts on new glasses. I have worn varifocals for years now, but for watching TV in bed, I bought a pair of online single vision prescription glasses for £10, and they're amazing!

Ive got Diabetes type 2, i get free tests and a voucher towards lenses. I get the retinopathy scans yearly and am due this years and normally come back ok. Cant fault the actual test very thorough, apart from my distance vision changing he also mentioned i may have early onset cataracts, hence the 3D scan as it allegedly does your eyes in layers and one particular layer is the crucial one. Will mention it next time i see my Gp.

I wasn't aware of this till I experienced it, but your optician has the authority to directly refer you into the NHS system if they discover a cataract. I got my left eye done a few years ago, amazing bit of surgery apart from the 2 year wait, and it's likely my right one will eventually go at some stage too. Best of luck buddy, looks like you're taking care of your eyes, you can do no more...

Half price glasses?

Mum just had eyes looked at this week and needs cataract op. Consultant said 4-6 week wait. But then had letter to say next Tuesday!! That's a week wait. Must have been a cancellation.

He stated the start of age related cataracts and need to be monitored, as i said will raise with Gp and when i have my retinopathy scan. Possibly why i now dont like driving at night.

All of my older female relatives have needed cataracts doing in their 70's.  It's really intrigued me.  I can't work out whether eyes are just poorly made and not designed to last beyond about 70.  Or whether there's a common cause - and therefore a way to avoid it.

I used to believe (heard somewhere) it was about spending time outside in sunlight without sunglasses.  But none of them worked outside, and only two of them spent a long time in hot countries, which seems to undermine that theory. 🤔

I too confound that theory in always working in an indoor environment. Guess it's like a car puncture, although you get a flat tire, there are numerous reasons why it may happen...

Thought you were talking about the mystery's of an Ecoboost wet belt for a moment 🤣

Perhaps it was the same guy who designed both ?

I don't like having to scroll to the bottom of the main page to get to the topics shifted into another 'room'!

Yeah, I know. First world problems 😀

You could just click on the 'Forums' at the Top of the page 🤔

It’s in the “hamburger” menu on mobile. Top right three horizontal white bars. All the menu links move in there.

Just takes you back to the main page 😀

And then I've got to scroll 'all' the way to the bottom of the page! 🤐

It's no big hardship, just don't know why they've basically split the general chat into two? 🤷
