Things I Don't Like

YouTube videos are monetised by the owner.  If the owner chooses not to monetise them, there won't be any ads.  I briefly tried vlogging on there a few years back.

I currently dislike the current trend of either certain cars or certain owners fitting Orange/yellow bulbs into what are supposed to be clear side lights. On a cursory glance it looks like they are indicating or have hazards on while driving.

That's USDM spec.  Illuminates the indicators at low power for use as DRL's.  (Arguably more visible than DRL's).  Not standard on any UK spec cars, all retrofitted.

I don't like a 100% car insurance hike. Renewal quote from Direct Line arrived before the weekend and is a 100.22% increase over my current price. Calling them up only only managed to reduce that down to a ~64% increase.

Shopping around doesn't fair much better with most other 5 star defacto insurers being somewhere at or around my original Direct Line quote or between the 64% "reduced" quote.

One thing that I need to check, only as it might be too good to be true, is a quote via GoCompare (and direct) from Peter Best Insurance who seem to be able to get a better quote through LV that going direct, and I can't see the finitie details on some coverage points.

following on from my earlier post in the things I do like thread, another thing also happened today whilst the train was being prepped and I still don't know how to process it as I have ASD.

It wasn't something bad like an accident or anything but it has left me a bit shaken up, upset and a bit angry. The way I was spoken to was not right, especially when in full earshot of other volunteers and also members of the public.

I know what I did at the time was safe to do and I would not have done anything if it was unsafe. The person involved was 200m+ away at the time and couldn't see what was happening to their own train stock (basically flooded the toilet and vestibule area of the last coach because they left the water running to refill the toilet tank and walked away resulting in it overflowing massively due to an unseen issue inside).

The situation could have been handled better by them but any other railway volunteer would most likely have done the same as what I did and I bet they wouldn't speak to others the way spoke to me. The person involved raised their voice at me almost shouting and gave me a dressing down right there on the platform.

Now I don't know if I want to go back there again, especially if the person involved is working.

Been seeing a lot of posts about insurance increases this year.  Just had my renewal through.  40% increase.  (£200 to £280).

Not the worst on here by a long way, but still a considerable percentage.  I will be trying a new quote with the same company to compare, but just wondered if there any 'new' companies worth trying online this year?  I can't use phones so limited to online quotes only.

I'm still not driving so it's really just insured against damage while parked at home.

I posted about this on one of the "insurance" threads, managed to contain my increase to around 10% after doing a lot of research and then negotiating with my existing insurer. Unfortunately that involves the phone which I appreciate is a no-no.

I'd be a bit suspicious of anybody completely new to the market tbh. I did find Chuchill/Direct Line (who I've found very competitive in the past) way out (60% increase on current) but LV were very good and I would probably have gone with them if my current insurer had not played ball.

Probably just a case of spreading the net as wide as possible, and getting direct quotes rather than via Compare the Meerkat, etc, can bring up better deals sometimes. Banks, big stores with finance arms (Tesco, M & S, Co-op etc) can be worth a try. Some friends of ours use brokers, but again that requires contact, as does NFU Mutual who only do phone quotes but some have found competitive.

I did find that adjusting the various excesses in the online quotes, where possible, made a surprisingly large difference in some cases, so might be worth looking at that?

Not sure which category this goes in. Ive an appointment at Chorley hospital next week for an indepth retinopathy scan plus whatever else. Had my eyes checked end of January and the optician stated i had early onset cataracts. Spoke to my Gp 19th, online appointment following day, system gave me the 27th as earliest. No idea what to expect, terrified will have to surrender my licence. My car is my lifeline as i dont do public transport. !

Don't stress! I had a cataract a few years back. Even with only one eye fully operational, I was arrogant enough to believe I was a better, safer driver than many with two! Once you eventually get your op, you'll be 100% again.

Couple of friends have had theirs done, absolutely no problems and better vision than before.

Cheers guys  have put off buying new glases till they've done whatever needs going. The pair my optician had quoted £620.00, had managed to find elsewhere for £132.00. Clutching at straws mebbee wont need them haha

I don't like when you order a pint of Wobbly Bob on the witherspoon app and the young waitress takes it to the wrong table.

Good job I saw it being poored and put out for collection hic!

I don't like that the Wetherspoons app does not allow you to simply 'browse' the menu, if you are not located within a wetherspoons. Today, we were next door in a shop and I wanted to peruse the menu so that when we went next door for lunch, I could hit the ground running. It doesn't allow you to do that unless the GPS matches up - very frustrating!

Mmm 🤔 just gone on the app and picked our favourite 'spoons in Glasgow, The Counting House if you're interested, and added a pint of Tennent's Lager to my basket without any problem.

Glasgow is 220 miles away by the way 😀

Now that is odd, I tried numerous times to 'browse menu', wouldn't do it, but the second I went inside to it, it popped up immediately! Maybe it's my own phone issue if the system works...

Allegedly there an app or FB page and if your in Weatherspoons people can send you random stuff, drinks, food etc sez my daughter

Wetherspoon's The Game, Facebook page 😉

Must be your phone Stephen. Try uninstalling the app then re installing it.

I shouldn't have seen that wetherspoons app. Oh dear, I'm in Tears as my son is currently in wetherspoons and  told me he knows about the face book thing. He asked if I wanted to send him a drink.

Told my daughter and she sent 1/2 of ruddles, roasted vegetables, then her boyf iend sent 2 slices of black pudding and a britvic tomato juice. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

At least I sent a beer. Was an alcohol free stella🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

@iantt just as a warning, Wetherspoon's will start refusing to serve orders if it gets too silly 😉

I'm unsure of that logic. Wetherspoons only 'serve' once payment has been received. Even if it's a 'crank' order, they still get money in the till so what would they care about it getting silly?

Having worked in a busy bar long, long ago.......90p a pint long ago 😀 I can sympathise with them for refusing to serve silly orders, not sure about them not refunding though 🤔 I think they'll put up with it for a while but there comes a point where the manager decides it's got out of hand and puts a stop to it.

If the item has legitimately been paid for, Tim Martin would be horrified at giving a refund! Maybe they might consider having a 'minimum' online order amount if they want to prevent their staff from being overworked...

TBF any publicity is good publicity and it raises the company profile.
