Things I Don't Like

Featured Replies

I'm yet another one, who used not to bother with breakfast, often skip lunch and consume a massive tea.

Body weight and mass wise, I've gone up and down, I've been huge: I've been skinny; I've had high % body fat: I've had good % body fat

However, this changed quite a few years ago. When I was doing quite a physically demanding job, and I was finding the lack of daytime sustenance meant that I was "fading" around 4-6 hours after I'd started! Almost ill, on some days

Like Ian, it felt unnatural to eat so soon out of bed, I certainly didn't feel hungry, and it seemed I would be literally forcing it down.

By delaying breakfast for an hour or so, after say, taking the dog out, doing the early paperwork ect. - the same methodology of the dairyman. Milk the cows: then have breakfast - dog, emails, purchase orders, the have breakfast. I'm able to have a fulfilling breakfast and don't fade in the middle of the working day.

It's all down to what suits you, the prepacked cereal route with milk, doesn't work for me - I tend feel bloated and sleepy tired within an hour, or so. Likewise, the croissant and jam /toast and marmalade route.

What works for me, is 5-8 pieces of fruit (depending on the size), 75 or so grams of nuts and a slab of cheese. This not only fills me up without feeling bloated but can keep me going all day. If I'm out cheese, yogurt, fish or eggs are substituted. Just occasionally, I'll have a bowl of ratatouille instead of the fruit.

For reasons I can't quite explain, I can't physically stomach coffee/tea after about 6pm. From then on, I drink water, usually 2-3 litres over the course of an evening.

I always feel hungry in the morning unless I had something to eat late the night before, but I think that's because I've always had breakfast since I was a kid. I think if you have meals at regular times like I do your body expects to get some food, so you start feeling hungry. I don't eat very healthily though, been on the border between normal and overweight for years although used to be a healthier weight. Being in control of what I eat hasn't really helped me compared to when I lived with my parents lol.

Isn't there a saying along the lines of "Breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and supper like a peasant"?

Illustrating the importance of breakfast, compared to the other meals. :)

Apart from the long weekend walks (18+ miles) and the double daily (2-3 miles) with the dog, I could do with a better exercise regime. I've got the gear but never quite seem to find the time to fit a gym session in :(

Oats so simple do it for me most mornings just add boiling water and ready in 2 minutes. I have this when I get to work as I can't be bothered when I get up. Good for reducing cholesterol as well which means I can have an odd bacon sandwich if I don't fancy the porridge

I very partial to oats. :)

Oats find their way into my stews and casseroles, and are the basis of my fruit crumble top

^ Couldn't agree more about breakfast, I couldn't function without it. I'd be distracted by hunger just driving to work. If you don't have breakfast is that because you're not hungry when you wake up, or just in a hurry to get to work?

I don't have breakfast because I feel very ill in the morning. I would say "morning sickness" but thankfully as a male I don't have that problem

I've never really determined what it is, but I can't eat before 12:00 or it can quite literally make me sick thus defeating the purpose.

I do 18+ miles easily every day. In fact, I do over 30...

In the car.

LOL

Initially, I didn't notice "in the car" and thought, if you're doing a 30+ mile walk every day: how do you find the time to get work in?

Theoretically I could (walking to and from work). Might take me a wee while though...

I actually get something like this, the thought of food can make me urge...

I did my best by saying "well I'm hungry at 12:30, so I'll eat at 12, or 11:30" then the next few days do that, then start again a little earlier...or try something small to nibble on earlier than your hunger, even if it's a bit if junk food or something, just to get you used to it. The better I eat the better I need to eat...There is no harm in stepping stones, reality is, repetition and small changes actually make the biggest differences.

As for my weight, I'm about 16 stone, but a lot of that comes from height...

Weight (Mass) on it's own is meaningless without % body fat!

Muscle weighs more than fat.

16 stone @ 12% body fat is good : 16 stone @ 18 % body fat is normal : 16 stone @ 35% body fat is obese

.... and 16 stone @ 5 % body fat shows you're shortly competing in a body building exhibition and you won't substain that for long :P

The dog has just decorated the kitchen floor with contents of the kitchen bin

She must have got bored on her own, down there :(

Somewhere between more than 15% less than 20%... so 18% I guess... (at a guess... I've not actually taken the time to measure it the cheap way, or the expense to measure it the expensive way)...

When I was in the mob and you did not have breakfast and consequently went wobbly on duty then you'd be put on a charge.

Yeh I've heard this, something to do with self inflicting injuries? It's in that sort of category I was lead to believe?

the only time I have breakfast is then we are on holidays then I don't have much

That's the one.

I spent 2 years doing Ceremonial Duties (QCS) and if any of us missed breakfast and fell over outside Buck House the WO would have the charge chit filled out before they came round.

Thankfully never happened to me but a couple of oppos suffered broken noses and split heads from going face down.

Have been guilty of being in a severe state of liquid refreshment though ( ;) ).

Not funny standing still for 3 hours with a screaming bladder and a horrendous hangover.

Doesn't the same apply, if you're not fully hydrated?

Or have I heard that wrongly

Imagine if it's a hangover from drinking too much real dark ale.... @_@, headache could be the last of your problems....

Bottom bags and tubing would be essential under there uniform

Hahaha!

We used to routinely dose up on Immodium just in case.

Nothing worse than going on guard and feeling an ominous gurgle.

When off guard we used to neck a litre of orange juice straight down to counteract the Immodium and brace for fallout.

I had to move the Astra down the drive, to turn the potato cabinet round (which is in the garage, on castors), in preparation for this seasons potatoes to go in. The potato cabinet is too long to turn in the garage, it needs the drive for a full turntable rotation.

I'd forgotten, how compared to the Focus: the Astra isn't a pleasant drive; :( even if you're only driving 25 meters. The seats were damp as well :o

And smelling of doggie doo doo?
