I cant be sure about the fronts but I know the rears have the same caliper between the 265 and the 280, what is different though is the carrier, the 280s have a substantially bigger carrier, same mount points and guide pins, but it is larger framed to allow for a bigger disc and presumably for the increased torque it will have to handle.

I think 300 is the largest you can get away with on 16in wheels as well.

The 265 carrier is labelled as a size 15 while the 280 carrier is 16 but again im not sure if that's the same for the fronts, I think the calipers are the same but the carriers are probably different like the rears

Cheers mate. I think it will be 278mm fronts. I sadly have drum brakes at the back :(

yeah, our German cousins got discs on the rear, guess ford knew it couldn't pull a fast one on them but us Brits are fair game, Estates have them here though, and if your doing a conversion finding one of those at a breakers yard will save you a fortune, I just need the shields pads and discs an im good to go

This is total it would cost plus fitting & brake fluid.

Had Black Diamond set up on my old ZR, were ok. But discs went rusty very quick....was quite a few years ago....so the finish may be better now.

Checked in the Halfords in Carrickmines the other day but no Bosch batteries in view. I should probably ask them whether they will bring some in stores. Definitely need to look into that on Micks Garage as well.

Check out the Mtec website as well for the discs Yuni. They have 10%off at the moment. The black diamond ones look cool too.

I don't think it is,
I saw Halfords in Wexford stock Bosch on the shelves S4 is a silver battery,

Also use micksgarage to find details of the brake discs you require by putting in your reg it displays only items specific to your car.
Select brake discs they give details specific to the ones you require,
You can then buy on eBay knowing you need details matching micksgarage description

Mind upgrading the front discs will move the brake bias forward esp if you have drums on the back an upgraded discs an pads in the front, ive been rearing a lot on this recently with my rear disc project, you'll probably be looking at around a 75/25 split upgrading the fronts alone, by default its around a 70/30. The back end of a diesel is pretty light so it may increase oversteer if your not careful an go over the top with it

Brakes - I'm of the opinion that drilled or grooved discs are a bit of a marketing tool. I ran a 270bhp 205gti at Knockhill for a couple of years and the biggest difference I ever made to my brakes was the pad I chose and the disc size. I ran solid discs with no issues. I tried DS2500 pads on my S2000 road car which I thought were good. A also ran them on my 205 after my EBC road pads glazed over after a handful of laps on the track. They sustained a lot of track abuse before they started to crumble. I ended up switching to more aggressive minted track pads and never looked back. I could easily lock up the back wheels.

Bilstein B12- Ran them on my Vauxhall Corsa and 205 gti. Fit and forget, you really can't go wrong. They don't make the car sit that low, but they just work the way a kit should.

Whiteline ARB - I had them on my Bora TDI front and rear. No complaints here. I'm still planning to buy a rear one for my Focus.

Re-map - Didn't blow my mind to begin with, but you really learn to appreciate it. Highly recommended!

Not sure either about how they are as there is little info on the web about them. Very reasonably priced for the brake pads I think compared to the OEM ones from Ford.

Hi guys

Don't know if this helps but for batteries maybe try
carpartsfor less.co.uk

I bought my Bosch S4 from there at a decent price
Maybe worth a look before buying....

Hi Mudassar,
Thanks for the link mate,
However were both living in the Republic of Ireland shipping is quite difficult with new DSG regulations on batterys in general
Then the batter weighing 17kg also contributes to cost.
Ive managed to source a reliable supplier within Ireland since previous post.

How do you find the battery compared to the stock ford unit?

Ah I see....

To be honest I've only had my focus for 2 weeks and as soon as I bought the car I changed the battery. I bought the S4 in August when I had my Astra 1.7cdti and the difference in that compared to whatever was in there was definitely noticeable, much better start ups. Although saying that the battery in the Astra was probably on its way out!

But I was impressed with the S4, so as soon as I bought the focus I swapped batteries!!

Also just before buying the focus, it did go into limp mode twice (whilst being prepped at a garage)I was told that this was probably as it hasn't been used much (08 plate, 12,000 miles) since I bought it and used the S4, no such problems.
I would only imagine the S5 working even better!

Sounds good,
Assuming your engine is a diesel; have you blanked the EGR valve? There's many positives to this.

I agree S5 would be the ultimate for focus diesels,
Its identical size to the S4 but the experts tell me that the S5 is designed for the ford focus with "Stop/Start technology.

Now to me this would indicate that it stores more power as it can keep things running with the engine off in traffic,
But im going to stick with S4 because im not sure if the ford econetic range is wired differently.

I personally believe Bosch are a quality company,
As all company's they like to make money,
They tell me Bosch S4 is the one for standard 1.6Tdci, 1.8tdci and 2.0tdci ford focus engines.

I feel if there wasn't a problem with running an S5 then they would make more money selling S5 to all focus diesels.
I feel there is some reason why we shouldn't fit S5.

Were lucky with the 1.6TDCi as it shares the exact same altanator size as the 2.0tdci
This gives us excess power to run accessories where a 2.0tdci driver may be looking for an altanator upgrade.

At present ive added:
Dual camera DVR system
Canbus alarm system
Usb power supply
Ford logo puddle lights
Front & rear footwell lights
Bird bath & cup holder lights
Reverse camera
7" screen headunit
bluetooth system
Two aftermarket gauges
Heated windscreen
Air conditioning
Dual boot lighting
Dual reverse lighting
Front fogs

No problems on stock battery :)

And I'm about to add:
300W mono amp
400w 4ch amp
10" sub
10" flip down monitor

So figured id upgrade the battery and install "the big 3 upgrade"
Which is upgrading cables from altanator to battery and battery to chassis
Ready made kits are available from America on eBay.com

Lenny, sorry if I came across as someone who knows about these things!!
I'm a complete newbie and amateur when it comes to these things!

My focus is a 1.8 petrol.

What 7 inch screen did you go for? I'm thinking of buying something similar as the my sony gen2 is without bluetooth.

What do you think of something like this.....

No problem mate,
The S4 is a good upgrade for economy driving in petrol engines,
NGK iridium spark plugs would also go nicely,
Since your new ill say mate people don't like having there threads hijacked :)
Ill happily discuss aftermarket headunit install with you on this thread: http://www.fordowner...ocus-2008-2011/

Reverse camera fitting on this thread: http://www.fordowner...ocus-2008-2011/

And 10" sub installation on this thread: http://www.fordowner...ocus-2005-2011/

Just copy & paste your question over to that thread.
I recommend anything from pioneer, start at 250 with parrot bluetooth built in.
I've personally got the pioneer AVH-86000BT but I'm in the process of a 2.5k audio build since September.

Lol!

I'm not looking to do anything too mad!

Just want to replace the Sony Gen2 as I don't have bluetooth. Was thinking rather than fork out to retro fit the BT, I could fork out a bit more and get a sat nav/dvd all in 1.

I don't have the money for the proper quality sound systems with subs and all, more importantly the mrs wouldn't stand for it!!

From my research, and there was lots of it, the best starting place is getting a decent headunit. I can't vouch for the sound quality for the one you liked but a decent Pioneer one will do the job. You might get less bells and whistles, but the sound quality and the bluetooth compatibility will be well worth it. If you don't mind, also check out amazon Warehouse deals and eBay for open box returns etc. That will save you a few £££.

Does this unit come with the reverse camera or do you have to buy it separately, I couldn't tell on the website! Also is the camera hard to fit (bare in mind I'm a beginner when it comes to these things)

it doesn't come with the camera, there is a version from eonon that does come with the camera but you could just as easily use Lenny's guide an cam, as long as the camera is a comp video output it'll work.

I cant imagine any reverse cams wouldn't use comp video out so the only thing to be careful of is the physical size, the rear number plate lights are different on the mk2 and 2.5, probably the 3 as well

The camera used in my guide replaces the boot handle in the centre,
I dont like the ones that replace the reg lights because they obstruct an uneven light and the cameras not centre,
The one I've fitted is centre and incorporates the boot handle :)
