Things I do like

I do like getting a bargain...  But struggling to find one on Xbox Live membership...  Anyone know of a voucher code for CDKeys or anything?

(I know you can buy foreign ones cheaply and use a VPN or something but would rather just buy a UK version!)

I do like getting the all clear from the doctor further to a cancer scare.  Still got lots of problems in my life but at least now I've (hopefully) got a lot of time to deal with them.

  • I do like finally finishing a model kit I first started 5 and a half years ago.  It's a very special model that i was supposed to finish by the time the aircraft took her final flights across the UK

Tom, what age are you?? LOL Though I'm one to talk, couldn't get enough 'Space Invaders' in the early 80s 🤣

Lol.

There's a new place that's opened up near us and it's £10 entry and full of 80s arcade games that are free to play for as long as you want all day. Family tickets £30.

Fill your boots ......

I use to spend a whole evening playing PacMan on one of those coffee table style machines, a real misspent youth LOL

Haha,

Was never any good at most arcade games tbh. Do have an old mega drive packed away in the loft and that has PacMan along with a few other bits.

Maybe you should let @TomsFocus know, if he can't get his XBox subscription, he may be interested in buying it 🤣

Lol. Did I mention there's also an xbox in the original box up there too along with all the connectors and controllers.

I was grand master at space invaders at our local pub. Many a time I was thrown off it for spending to much time on one 10p go. I could go hours without losing all my lives.

Certainly wasn't popular with the pub owner who thought it might make him some money. Esp when I used football coins that you got free with petrol my dad used. Just the same size as a 10p. 😂😂😂

We got an X box in the cupboard somewhere.

They were issued by Esso, right? I had the full 1966 World Cup squad LOL

Yep, I think it was Esso. That was around late 1970's . Also Esso did all sorts of free gifts . Most robust were there glass tumblers. Still going well used on a daily basis for 40+ years.

Well, now that I can't drive, can barely walk and don't even have a garden, I'm just trying to find anything home-based to pass each hour until the end...

Having said that, consoles have come a long way since Space Invaders, you'd probably be surprised how many people are still playing in their 30s and above!

Alas, that is a very simplistic view of life. I live with diabetes, and the after effects of bowel cancer treatment, and serious heart issues. Sometimes, you just feel ill no matter what you eat!

I disagree. Most people will feel better.

Can't argue with such strident facts. Maybe I should give up the 60/day smoking, the large bucket of fried chicken, and the 8 x pints of Carlsberg/day and see how it goes 🤣

Just to add what I said wasn’t simplistic.Eating the correct food can be complicated.

Gave up smoking 26 yrs ago. Not touched one since. Don't drink lager anymore just have the odd bottle of craft beer but do enjoy a glass or two of red wine.

I can barely eat anything nowadays and can only drink small amounts of water.  Saw 2 dieticians in the last few years, one NHS, one private, both seemingly unable to understand that my body can't process food properly...  "You just need to eat more to start with."  Wow, thanks, why didn't I think of that!?

I've never smoked.  Haven't drunk any alcohol since 2007 (yes, I gave up before I was legally old enough to drink lol).  Haven't been able to eat anything greasy/fatty since 2006.  And I rarely ate anything sugary in my earlier years.  Now I'm having to eat a couple of biscuits or a piece of cake every day just to try and get enough calories in to maintain the weight I have left without the 'bulk' of healthier foods.  Aside from that, it's just plain toast, potato waffles, a bit of ham and a very small amount of veg.  Can't even eat any fruit now without wrecking my insides.

Food really is the bane of my life.  Wish I could stop eating for a few months to enable me to work on other areas of life instead...

Tom, that is awful! I love food and it's such a big part of my life. After my heart bypass, I lost my sense of taste for nearly 2 months and it was just dreadful, I became very depressed. Like you, I have never smoked, and have always been teetotal. Obviously I have no suggestions for you, as I know pretty much nothing about everything (look at some of my 'car' posts LOL). I do hope that you stumble upon something that works out for you...

You have 100 trillion bacteria in your gut and you need to keep them happy.Feeding them toast, biscuits and potato waffles is unhelpful.

Hope you can find a way to be able to start enjoying food.

Keep your head up 🙂

100 Trillion to keep happy?? My goodness, my sister finds it hard enough to keep her hubbie & son happy with food, and that's just 2! 🤣

Comments like that are also unhelpful unless you're following them up with suggestions?

I can't manage the fibre in veg/oats/cereals so have to keep portion sizes very small (far too small to get enough calories from them).  I can't manage the fructose in fruit at all.  Or the lactose in milk. Probiotics were catastrophic! And due to other issues, I can't really prepare any food so have to rely on ready made items.  Few years ago I was having frozen fish & chicken regularly but couldn't manage that from around 2019.  Can't even manage boiled potatoes any more either...possibly due to the starch?  Believe me, biscuits and potato waffles are not through choice.  That's just all that's left after the last few years of having to keep cutting more and more foods despite multiple attempts asking for medical input.

I've been genuinely amazed that dieticians get paid for handing out leaflets that anyone can find online or telling skinny people to eat more and fat people to eat less!

What I really need myself is some sort of 'overall' service to take all of my conditions into account and produce a manageable plan for moving forward.  It's like a tangled ball of wool, trying to loosen one knot tightens another, there's no obvious starting point and everything I've tried so far relies on being able to run before I can walk which has ultimately just made things worse every time.  However, there is no service that does that, not in the NHS, council or even privately...  Finances aren't so much of an issue for me at the moment so I'd happily pay if necessary.  But I just can't access any health services because of my health conditions...which seems absurd!
