The Greeks know how to make a decent yogurt as well!  Can't stand the thin, runny rubbish we make over here! :laugh:

    I do like getting the all clear from the doctor further to a cancer scare.  Still got lots of problems in my life but at least now I've (hopefully) got a lot of time to deal with them.

  • I do like finally finishing a model kit I first started 5 and a half years ago.  It's a very special model that i was supposed to finish by the time the aircraft took her final flights across the UK

Could you suggest me a favourite dish of yours to eat in England?

I would be glad if you post any photo too!!

Have a nice and healthy evening!

The most popular 'English' dish by numerous surveys is now, Chicken Tikka Masala'. Use to be fish & chips, but go figure LOL

Fish and chips isn't English either, was brought over by Jewish people fleeing persecution during the Spanish Inquisition! :unsure:

We had to steal all our recipes from other countries.  I've never heard anyone say 'let's go out for an English'...  :laugh:

Does that include the " Full English" I'm damn sure the majority of us would know what to expect. Non of that " Cabbage n bacon " concoction either 😲

I think you'll find the Full Irish, Full Scottish, and Full Welsh are remarkably similar LOL

Roast beef and Yorkshire pudding cooked properly with roast veg and gravy is as good as anything in my opinion👍

That would be for the fish, the chips weren’t, fish and chips were brought together here so it’s an English dish.

Had a quick look on Google for the variations and the following additions are,

Irish = Bubble and squeak

Scottish = Black pudding

Welsh = Cockle laverbread or seaweed but not both.

So that backs up what I said, fried fish came with the fleeing Jews, chips came from somewhere else, we put them both together.

I can't testify to the Welsh or Scottish variants, but can assure you, if anyone here was served 'Bubble & squeak', the serving staff would be harassed with, 'oy, what the h*ll is that??' pointing to the errant ingredient LOL

Totally agree , along with hash browns. Neither should exist and certainly not on at breakfast .

I was surprised to read ( if its correct) that the origins of Fried bread is from the Apache tribes.

Get it right, they weren’t fleeing, but immigrants from Holland 😉

Maybe you should read the link StephenFord posted.

Our Baclava (sweet with nuts,butter and pastry sheet wet in sweet syrup) presumed to be a turkish desert the same as kourambie, and other foods with a some kind of turkish accent.

400 years of turkish occupation unfortuntely leaded to the assimilation of their culture to ours...

We have lots of commons with them (Turks) as a result of that occupation...

But fortunately after our liberation of those tyrants  we managed to kept our culture and tradition to a great percentage!

I am very proud for my ancestors being so strong and brave that managed to free Greece from those tyrants...despite the fact that they were not so many, with no arms, no ships, no canons, they sacrificed everything they had for the fight against them.

Food and tradition for every country of the world have a lot to tell...

Are we willing to listen?

Greetings to all of you from the cloudy Greece!

The Tuesday after next is pancake Day in the UK...  Ok, pancakes themselves are American, but what toppings do you all prefer?  :smile:
